Hawaii at New Mexico State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Hawaii at New Mexico State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (1-3) meet the New Mexico State Aggies (1-3) Saturday at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, N.M. Kickoff is schedule for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hawaii vs. New Mexico State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Rainbow Warriors return to the mainland, and they hope the third time is a charm. Hawaii lost 44-10 at UCLA in Week 1 Aug. 28, and 45-27 at Oregon State Sept. 11, failing to cover in each. Hawaii did pick up its first cover last week in a 17-13 loss to San Jose State in the islands.

The Aggies started the season 0-3 SU, but they have been a friend of the bettor. New Mexico State won 43-35 against South Carolina State last week, and they’re 3-0 ATS across the past three outings after a loss and non-cover in Week 1 against UTEP.

Hawaii at New Mexico State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawaii 34, New Mexico State 23

Money line

The third time should be a charm for Hawaii (-900), as it gets its first win on the mainland after two failed trips. However, don’t risk nine times your potential return.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

NEW MEXICO STATE +17.5 (-115) is the play at home. They’re not going to win this game, but in the previous two weeks they have shown an ability to move the ball.

The problems for the Aggies are on defense, where they allow 450.5 yards per game and 274.3 passing yards per contest. That’s why they won’t win as Hawaii QB Chevan Cordeiro should finally be able to get on track. Still, the Aggies have covered three in a row, and they’ll hang around within two scores.

Over/Under

The UNDER 62.5 (-115) is the play here as Hawaii’s offense just hasn’t been the same as years past. They could have some much-needed success against New Mexico State as its defense has struggled.

There is just something missing from these Rainbow Warriors on the offensive side of the football, and their defense was surprisingly effective last week against a solid San Jose State offense. Therefore, the Under is the play.

New Mexico State at San Diego State odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s New Mexico State at San Diego State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Mexico State Aggies and San Diego State Aztecs meet Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the New Mexico State vs. San Diego State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Aggies (0-1) were worked over by UTEP last weekend in Las Cruces, falling 30-3. NMSU managed just 101 rushing yards, and 89 passing yards, while getting sacked three times and fumbling it away once. On a positive note, they were plus-1 in the turnover department.

The Aztecs, who are more like nomads, are playing games 111 miles north in the greater Los Angeles area while their new Mission Valley stadium is being constructed. Whether this game is in SoCal, or on the moon, they should be able to easily push past the Aggies.

New Mexico State at San Diego State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

San Diego State 41, New Mexico State 6

Money line

No way, no how can you bet San Diego State (-10000), risking $100 for every $1 won. That’s especially so playing in a sterile environment nearly two hours north of its usual home, so fans are likely to be very sparse.

AVOID.

Against the spread

SAN DIEGO STATE -31.5 (-105) is worth a small-unit play. The Aztecs should pounce on a New Mexico State team that was drummed by subpar UTEP. Look for RBs Chance Bell, Greg Bell, Jordan Byrd and Kaegun Williams all to see meaningful touches in the SDSU backfield. TE Daniel Bellinger is also a top red-zone target, and you can expect him to get his.

In addition, San Diego State has a monster defensive front, and the Aztecs limited the opposition to just 17.8 points per game in 2020, tops in the Mountain West. That’s not what the Aggies want to see after being held to just a field goal last weekend.

Over/Under

UNDER 50.5 (-108) is the lean here. New Mexico State looked atrocious last week, giving us a sneak peek at what to expect this weekend. The Aggies will be facing a superior defense than the one they saw in El Paso last weekend.

While San Diego State has a bevy of backs to carry the mail, its pass attack is just mediocre. The Aztecs were good for just 24.6 PPG and 5.1 yards per play last season, so they need improvements before Over bets are considered in their games.

UTEP at New Mexico State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UTEP at New Mexico State Week 0 matchup, with college football odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The UTEP Miners visit the New Mexico State Aggies for a season-opening battle Saturday night. The contest at Aggie Memorial Stadium is slated for a 9:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we look at the UTEP vs. New Mexico State odds and lines, and make our best college football picks, predictions and bets.

UTEP went 3-5 last season. The Miners ended their season with four straight losses, but they outgained foes in three of those four setbacks. The 2021 roster returns 19 starters, including 11 for an offense that has incrementally upped its points and yards per game each of the last three seasons.

New Mexico State did not play last fall. The Aggies had a two-game spring season (against two FCS opponents) and head coach Doug Martin treated those contests like exhibition games, working in players up and down the roster. To make the Aggies even more inexperienced heading into this contest, six defensive players transferred after the 2019 season.

The 2020 COVID-19 autumn snapped a streak of 18 straight years with these two programs meeting on the gridiron. UTEP leads the all-time series, 57-38-2, but NMSU has a three-game straight-up and against-the-spread winning streak (2017-19).

UTEP at New Mexico State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

UTEP 38, New Mexico State 24

Money line

Strong-armed UTEP QB Gavin Hardison returns after an up-and-down sophomore season that saw him complete 54.3% of his passes while compiling 5 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. Hardison’s top two targets — WR Justin Garrett and WR Jacob Cowing — also return as does the entire offensive line.

Look for that group to continue to progress against a green Aggies defense. But PASS on the expensive money line.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Miners woould return a profit of just $2.50.

Against the spread

The Miners are set up in a revenge spot; the Aggies are in the unenviable position of playing real FBS football for the first time in nearly two years.

UTEP -9.5 (-120) is a good play for a win by 10 or more points.

Over/Under

Look for UTEP to control this game and get its offense in gear early. BACK THE OVER 58.5 (-120).
