New Jersey Generals at Birmingham Stallions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Jersey Generals at Birmingham Stallions odds and lines, with USFL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Generals and the Birmingham Stallions meet Saturday in the Week 1 opener at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Generals vs. Stallions odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Generals posted a 9-1 record last season, but the team must replace dynamic kick return man KaVontae Turpin, who landed a job with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL.

USFL Offensive Player of the Year RB Darius Victor is back, though, after rumbling for 577 yards and 9 TDs. He’ll pair with RB Trey Williams for a tremendous one-two punch in Jersey.

The Stallions begin defending their title at Protective Stadium, where all of the 2022 regular season games were played. QBs J’Mar Smith and Alex McGough are both talented and capable of doing big things.

Stallions RB Bo Scarbrough flamed out in the NFL, but he was a bona fide star with the Stallions last season. TE Thaddeus Moss, son of NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss, joins the team, too, although he is inactive for Week 1.

Generals at Stallions picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 26, Generals 20

Moneyline

The Stallions (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s a little steep for a standalone wager, even for the defending champions.

PASS.

Against the spread

The lean is to STALLIONS -5 (-110), although the Generals +5 (-110) certainly have the tools to hang with the defending champs.

The key for New Jersey will be the run game and Victor, while the Stallions have an outstanding rushing attack, and experienced quarterbacks, too. This one should be fun, with the home side cashing late in the 2nd half.

Over/Under

OVER 39.5 (-110) is the play, as both of these teams have the offensive tools to make things happen.

Again, like we saw in the XFL in Week 1, the books set the totals low on the opening week games, and the teams exceeded expectations on offense. Look for the star-studded Birmingham and New Jersey offenses to put on a show at Protective Stadium.

Philadelphia Stars vs. New Jersey Generals USFL semifinal odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Philadelphia Stars vs. New Jersey Generals semifinal odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The USFL playoffs begin with the 2 semifinal games Saturday. The 1st matchup features the top 2 North Division teams: the New Jersey Generals (9-1) and the Philadelphia Stars (6-4). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET (FOX) from Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Stars vs. Generals playoff odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Stars basically clinched a playoff spot behind a 4-game win streak between Weeks 6 to 9. They were under .500 after 5 weeks at 2-3, which included a 24-16 loss to the Generals in Week 3.

The Generals actually swept the 2-game regular-season series vs. the Stars, also prevailing 26-23 in Week 10. But with both teams already locked into their playoff spots, there wasn’t much to play for.

New Jersey enters the postseason on a 9-game win streak. Yep, the Generals lost their season opener and then won 9 in a row.

The Birmingham Stallions (9-1) and New Orleans Breakers (6-4) will meet in the South Division semifinal on this same field at 8 p.m. ET (NBC). The 2 semifinal winners will face off in the championship game Sunday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET (FOX), also in Canton.

Stars vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Generals 34, Stars 24

Money line

As mentioned, the Generals have won 9 in a row and beat the Stars in both regular-season matchups.

They allowed the 3rd-fewest points in the USFL this season, yielding 18.2 points per game.

The Stars won 4 of their final 5 games and scored the most points (262) in the league. However, all 6 of their wins came against teams that finished with losing records, while they went 0-4 against the other 3 playoff teams.

The Generals (-200) will win this game, but it’s a PASS as there’s no value in a -200 money line.

Against the spread

Three of the Stars’ 4 losses were by 6 or more points.

Five of the 9 Generals’ victories were by 5 or more points.

The Stars were tied for last in the league in points allowed (243) and face the league’s No. 3-scoring offense.

Take the GENERALS -4.5 (-110).

Over/Under

In their 2 regular-season matchups, the totals were 40 and 49 points.

After their Week 3 game, 5 of the Stars’ final 7 games had more than 47 points with another at exactly 47.

The Generals are more than capable of putting up points but also have one of the stingiest defense in points allowed. They had 4 games of more than 47 total points.

Take OVER 47.5 (-105).

Philadelphia Stars at New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Philadelphia Stars vs. New Jersey Generals Week 10 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia Stars (6-3) and the New Jersey Generals (8-1) face off Saturday in Week 10 for their final regular-season game before the two teams meet in the first round of the playoffs next week. Kickoff is at noon ET at Legion Field in Birmingham. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Stars vs. Generals odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Stars have won 4 games in a row to clinch a postseason berth. They snuck by the 1-8 Pittsburgh Maulers 17-16 last week.

The Generals are the hottest team in the league. After losing their season opener 28-24 to the Birmingham Stallions, they rattled off 8 consecutive wins, including a 24-16 win over the Stars in Week 3.

Stars vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Generals 20, Stars 17

Money line

As the top 2 teams in the North Division, New Jersey and Philadelphia will meet again next week in the semifinal round of the playoffs on a neutral field in Canton, Ohio.

So, there’s not much to play for in Week 10 and both teams will likely rest starters by the time this game gets to the 2nd half.

The Generals have the USFL’s top rushing attack, averaging 158.7 yards per game, while the Stars are the worst team in the league in rush defense, giving up 148.2 yards per game.

In a game where the rushing attack will likely be leaned upon by New Jersey, I LEAN GENERALS (-140).

Against the spread

Only 2 of the Generals’ 8 wins were not by more than 2 points. They beat the Stars in Week 3 by 8.

The Stars have won 4 games in a row, but all 3 of their losses were by at least a touchdown.

Again, this comes down to the run game of the Generals. Because we could see a lot of backups and both teams playing this game more like an NFL preseason contest, it is tough to strongly feel one way or another.

I LEAN GENERALS -2.5 (-110).

Over/Under

This is the bet I feel most confident about. With the possibility of starters resting and the Generals having a strong rushing attack, this game will get the clock moving.

Their Week 3 matchup had 40 points. I doubt they make it to 40.

Take UNDER 41.5 (-110).

Pittsburgh Maulers vs. New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Pittsburgh Maulers vs. New Jersey Generals Week 8 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Maulers (1-6) battle the New Jersey Generals (6-1) Friday at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (USA). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Maulers vs. Generals odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Maulers are averaging just 13.1 points per game this season, while allowing 23.4 PPG. That’s a huge reason why Pittsburgh has won just once  in 7 games. In a 26-16 loss to the playoff-bound Birmingham Stallions last week, the Maulers did pick up the cover to improve to 3-4 ATS.

The Generals have won 6 games in a row since a 28-24 Week 1 setback to the Stallions. New Jersey has also covered 4 of the first 7 games while scoring 20 or more points in 5 consecutive outings.

The Generals beat the Maulers 21-13 in Week 4.

Maulers vs. Generals odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 8:04 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Maulers +290 (bet $100 to win $290) | Generals -380 (bet $380 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Maulers +8.5 (-110) | Generals -8.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 41.5 (O: -108 | U: -112)

Maulers vs. Generals key injuries

Maulers

  • RB James Gilbert (undisclosed) out
  • WR Tre Walker (undisclosed) out

Generals

  • RB Kingston Davis (not injury related) out
  • QB De’Andre Johnson (ankle) out
  • WR Landon Lenoir (not injury related) out
  • WR Darrius Shepherd (hamstring) out
  • TE Mason Sikes (not injury related) out

Maulers vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Generals 24, Maulers 12

Money line

The Generals (-380) should be able to run their winning streak to 7 consecutive games, but you can’t risk nearly 4 times your potential return on New Jersey.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

The GENERALS -8.5 (-110) are worth playing against the lowly Maulers  +8.5 (-110) despite the fact Pittsburgh covered last weekend against the high-flying Stallions. New Jersey is a good play because it has plenty of offense, scoring 20 or more points in 5 straight games. Pittsburgh just doesn’t have the horses to keep up.

Over/Under

The UNDER 41.5 (-110) is the lean in this one, as the Generals can score, but the Maulers will have difficulty moving the ball against New Jersey. The Maulers have scored a league-low 92 points while the next lowest team has managed 125 points. On the flip side, the Generals have allowed 118 points, fewest in the league. This won’t end well for Pittsburgh, and it will be a low-scoring affair.

New Orleans Breakers vs. New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New Orleans Breakers vs. New Jersey Week 5 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Breakers (3-1) take on the New Jersey Generals (3-1) when Week 5 of the USFL schedule continues Saturday. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. ET at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Breakers vs. Generals odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Breakers bounced back from their 1st loss of the season 2 weeks ago with a 23-16 overtime win over the Houston Gamblers in Week 4. They were down 16-13 in the fourth quarter and responded with 10 points, including a game-winning touchdown pass from QB Kyle Sloter to WR Jonathan Adams.

The Generals have won 3 games in a row after a season-opening loss to the Birmingham Stallions. They beat the Pittsburgh Maulers 21-13 last week.

Breakers vs. Generals odds and lines

  • OL Garrett McGhin (triceps) questionable
  • WR Darrius Shepard (hamstring) questionable
  • CB Christian Tutt (knee, ankle) questionable

Breakers vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Breakers 23, General 16

Money line

The Generals are the hotter team right now, having gone 3-0 since their season-opening loss. They lead the USFL in rushing at 178.3 yards per game as a team and Sloter has the most passing yards in the league.

Take the BREAKERS (-165).

Against the spread

The Breakers have won all their games by at least 4 points.

Leaguewide, all but 2 games this season have been decided by 3 or more points.

So it will come down to whether or not the Breakers win. The games leading up to this one suggest that we can expect the winning team to also cover the spread.

Take the BREAKERS -3 (-110).

Over/Under

The Breakers and the Generals are the 2 teams to allow the fewest points from their opponents. The Breakers only 58 and the Generals 63.

Four of the last 6 games across the league have gone Over the projected total.

In this game, despite both teams are stingy with allowing points, take OVER -37 (-112).

New Jersey Generals vs. Philadelphia Stars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Jersey Generals vs. Philadelphia Stars Week 3 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Jersey Generals (1-1) face the Philadelphia Stars (1-1) Sunday at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Generals vs. Stars odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Generals beat the Michigan Panthers 10-6 in Week 2, following a 28-24 loss to the Birmingham Stallions in their opener.

The Generals are led by QB De’Andre Johnson, who is averaging a team-best 62.5 yards per game on the ground. He’s completed 8 of 14 pass attempts for 107 yards with no touchdowns, while QB Luis Perez is 26 of 37 for 240 yards and 2 TDs.

Philadelphia also struggled out of the gate, losing its opener to the New Orleans Breakers 23-17. But the Stars rebounds with a 30-23 victory against the Pittsburgh Maulers.

The Stars are led by QB Bryan Scott, who owns a league-best 237.0 passing yards per game. He’s thrown 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions so far.

Generals vs. Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 24, Generals 17

Money line

PASS.

Through the first two weeks, there hasn’t been a single USFL game decided by 3 points or less. I’ll prefer the Stars -2.5 spread over their -130 money line here.

Against the spread

BET STARS -2.5 (-110).

This line opened at -1.5, which leads me to indicate there could be some sharp money hitting it and/or some reverse-line movement.

Either way, it’s the better side, and Scott is why. He’s been the most efficient quarterback in the USFL this season.

The Generals will struggle to keep up with Stars QB Scott, who should be able to feast Sunday. New Jersey’s defense ranks third in opponents’ yards per game — thanks in part to facing a horrible Michigan offense in Week 2.

Also, the Generals don’t have much of an offensive identity. They aren’t great at throwing the ball or running it, and their two-quarterback system hasn’t brought much success.

I’ll bank on the STARS -2.5 (-110), who seem to be among the better teams in the league.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 42 (-110).

This has shot up from 40.5, and it’s confusing as the Generals put up just 10 points last week, struggling to move the ball against a below-average Panthers squad.

I like Scott’s potential, and the Philadelphia defensive line isn’t among the league’s best. Given both teams are 1-1 O/U, this is more of a play against the drastic line movement.

Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals Week 2 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan Panthers (0-1) and New Jersey Generals (0-1) seek to bounce back from season-opening losses when they kick off the USFL’s Week 2 schedule Friday. Kickoff is 8 p.m. ET at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Panthers vs. Generals odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Generals lost the league’s season opener 28-24 to the Birmingham Stallions. The Generals lost despite taking a lead with 1:56 left in the game on a K Nick Rose 47-yard field goal as the Stallions went 50 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 29 seconds left.

The Panthers lost to the Houston Gamblers 17-12 in their opener. They surrendered 17 first-half points and rallied in the second half but it wasn’t enough.

Panthers vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 24, Generals 17

Money line

Both teams were favored in their respective openers last week and both lost.

Michigan, despite not scoring in the first half, moved the ball offensively. They turned the ball over once and then turned the ball over on downs in the red zone in the first half and the defense held the Gamblers to only 10 offensive points, as the other touchdown was a defensive score.

The Generals played in a back-and-forth game that came down to the wire.

If the Panthers can convert their drives into points, they should be okay.

Take the PANTHERS (-120).

Against the spread

With the exception of the game between the Tampa Bay Vipers and Pittsburgh Maulers, all the spreads were 2.5 points. Both the Generals and the Panthers were the favorites in Week 1, only to suffer straight-up losses, in addition to failing to cover the spread.

With a one-point spread, because there are no ties in the USFL, it leaves only the possibility for a push if the Panthers only win by one, so an ATS bet on the Panthers is ever slightly more valuable than the money line.

Take PANTHERS -1 (-110).

Over/Under

Every game last week in the league had projected totals of 40.5-43.5. Only the Generals’ game hit the Over.

The question is whether or not the types of games change this week.

The Generals put up 24 and the Panthers should have had at least 20 last week.

I LEAN OVER 40.5 (-122).

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. ET at Protective Stadium. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Generals vs. Stallions odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

Generals at Stallions picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 24, Generals 20

Money line

Bet STALLIONS (-150).

Without having anything to go on in terms of trends and judging only on the talent on the roster and the coaching staffs, the one thing that could make a difference is the true home-field advantage that Birmingham has.

The Generals have the longest odds (+750) in the league to win the championship this season, so they are expected to be the worst team.

The Generals’ Riley is the more decorated coach, but their quarterback situation is not as solid as the Stallions. At least as a guide for the first week before we see any play on the field, go with the better quarterback and the home field. Take the STALLIONS (-150).

Against the spread

The Stallions are given a basic 2.5-point advantage in the opener.

The USFL has standard scoring opportunities but do offer one thing that could mess with spreads. They have a 3-point attempt that teams can run after a touchdown from the 10-yard line, so teams can potentially score 9 points in a possession.

That said, the spread is a better value for you than the money line if you like the Stallions to win. Take the STALLIONS -2.5 (-110).

Over/Under

This first game sets the tone for the entire league and season. We hope there is plenty of scoring. As it has been hard for most any offseason football league to maintain the attention of NFL fans, the way to do that is to put points on the board.

This first game’s total is staying on the low side. I anticipate each team reaching the 20s.

Take OVER 42.5 (-110).
