LaMarcus Aldridge listed as a top remaining free agent

Nets veteran big man LaMarcus Aldridge is still a free agent and actual ranks as one of the best one’s remaining so far.

While the NBA offseason has packed a lot of surprises for various teams, the Brooklyn Nets  lost some of their older veteran talent including the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge, who remains available for teams.

Media outlet theScore listed their top remaining free agents and the veteran Aldridge ranked in the top eight. Alongside theScore ranks Montrezl Harrell, Carmelo Anthony, Dennis Schröder, Eric Bledsoe, Demarcus Cousins, Isaiah Thomas and Collin Sexton as the best remaining free agents.

Earlier this offseason Aldridge took to Instagram and made a comment inferring that he was interested in playing for a team overseas if they needed a shooting big. This was a clear indication of the veteran forwards intentions with his future in the Nets organization.

As the beginning of the regular season approaches, many of these talents will get picked up in the coming weeks so if a team needs a veteran leader who can still play efficient in the paint, then they’ll sign Aldridge.

2022 Belmont Stakes: Mo Donegal wins Belmont Stakes in Kentucky Derby rematch with Rich Strike

Mo Donegal aced the test of champions.

The test of the champions has produced another worthy victor as Mo Donegal earned a first place finish at the 2022 Belmont Stakes on Saturday in Elmont, New York.

It’s the fourth Belmont Stakes victory for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Mo Donegal got off to a middling start, hanging in the middle of the pack while We The People raced out to the lead after starting on the rail. Despite sitting in sixth place on the backstretch, Mo Donegal was able to muscle around the top of the field and gather strength down the stretch to cross the finish line in just 2:28.28.

The 1.5 mile dirt race saw just an eight horse field, but it happened to be packed with established names like Skippylongstocking, Barber Road and 2022 Kentucky Derby-winner Rich Strike.

This was Rich Strike’s first race since his historic Run for the Roses when he was added as a late entry to the field, then blazed away with the win despite 80-1 odds—the second longest ever to win the Derby.

On Saturday, Rich Strike struggled to keep up with the pace and couldn’t make a late move running in eighth almost the entire race.

Mo Donegal, who finished fifth behind Rich Strike at the Kentucky Derby will take home $800,000 of the $1.5 million purse after closing with 5-2 odds.

Race Results

  1. Mo Donegal ($7.20, $3.80, $3.00)
  2. Nest (N/A, $5.30, $4.10)
  3. Skippylongstocking (N/A, N/A, $5.60)

(Based on $2 bet)

Astonished birders spot bear in a nest ‘four stories’ up a tree

Birders and naturalists observing great blue herons in Ontario, Canada, were astonished Tuesday to discover that a black bear had climbed high up the narrow trunk of a tree to access a heron nest.

Birders observing great blue herons in Ontario, Canada, were surprised Tuesday to see a black bear standing in a nest more than four stories up a tree.

“How do I report this on eBird?” photographer Ken MacDonald joked on Facebook, referring to the online sightings database.

MacDonald told For The Win Outdoors that the bear must have climbed “four or five stories” to reach the nest, and while that’s impressive the bear’s motives were sadly clear.

“We couldn’t see chicks in the nest that the bear was sitting in but it did seem to be nosing down into the nest and feeding,” MacDonald said. “The bear was also looking at the nest below and behind it, but it would have had to climb back down and then up another tree to get to that nest.”

Great blue herons establish nesting colonies in treetops and adults can be fiercely defensive while fending off potential predators. But on Tuesday, as MacDonald reported, “The heronry didn’t seem quite as busy as it was earlier in the spring, perhaps for a good reason.”

Black bears are prolific climbers and among their prey items each spring are great blue heron eggs and nestlings.

MacDonald said adult herons did not so much as swoop on the bear, “though all the birds in the neighborhood were silent and watchful.

“We wondered if some adults might attack the bear as it made its descent but we weren’t able to hang around long enough to see that.”

MacDonald said the bear, being well-fed, might have been content to remain in the nest into or through the night.

The heron nesting colony is in Ontario’s Severn township. The photos appeared on the Midland-Penetanguishene Field Naturalists
Facebook page.
