The Nebraska volleyball team suffered their first defeat of the 2023 season on Friday afternoon. The No. 1 ranked Cornhuskers lost in straight sets (25-22,28-26,25-16) to No. 5 Wisconsin at the UW Field House in Madison.

The Big Ten champions fell to 27-1 overall and 18-1 in Big Ten play. Harper Murray led the Huskers with 15 kills and eight digs, while Ally Batenhorst and Merrit Beason posted 11 kills. Bergen Reilly had 32 assists and ten digs, while Lexi Rodriguez had eight digs.

Nebraska will finish the regular season on the road this Saturday at Minnesota. The match can be seen on the Big Ten Network.

The Nebraska athletic department has released a video recapping its recent match featuring the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country. The Huskers jumped to the top spot after defeating previous No. 1 Wisconsin on Saturday night (25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-13).

It was also the first time Nebraska defeated the No. 1 ranked team in the country since 2017. The Huskers are currently 19-0 on the season, the best start for the program since Nebraska started 20-0 in 2008.

Nebraska is the only undefeated team in the top 25. The Huskers will remain home to face Maryland on Friday night. The match is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.
