Nebraska volleyball looks to set attendance record next season

Nebraska volleyball will finally play a game at Pinnacle Bank Arena in 2025.

Nebraska women’s volleyball coach John Cook told the media two and a half years ago, “At some point, we may have to play in Pinnacle Bank.” Before adding that, then-Husker athletic director Trev Alberts was pushing Cook and the program to do just that.

Cook told Lauren Cook-West on the “Kicking Back with the Cooks” podcast that the Huskers will finally get their chance next season.

“Last night, Purdue set a new Big Ten attendance record. They played Indiana in the basketball arena and drew 14,152. So immediately I sent off a text to Troy (Dannen), our athletic director, and said ‘game on, we gotta break this.’ So next year we’ll definitely be going to be PBA, so we can get that record too. We want to hold every record, so I think our fans are fired up. So we’ll have to play a Big Ten match in PBA Arena.”

While Huskers fans can look forward to the program playing at Pinnacle Bank Arena at some point next season, the Huskers are still focused on their 2024-25 season. Currently, John Cook’s program is 18-1 overall, including 8-0 in conference play; they’ve won 15 straight matches since falling to SMU in three sets back in early September.

The Huskers will host Illinois and Michigan this weekend at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Nebraska volleyball sets new TV viewership record

The Nebraska women’s volleyball team has set another record.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Louisville Cardinals women’s volleyball programs set a new viewership record on ESPN/ABC on Sunday for their non-conference matchup.

On Tuesday, ESPN announced that the match was the most-watched regular season volleyball match ever on the network’s platforms. It averaged 684,000 viewers and peaked at 808,000 viewers.

Making the viewership record even more impressive is that the match went up against week three of the NFL schedule.

In the match attended by 14,000 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, the Huskers cleanly swept the Cardinals 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-20). Harper Murray led the Huskers with 11 kills. The Huskers had seven total aces in the match

Now at 10-1 on the season, the Huskers will begin Big Ten play on Friday by welcoming the UCLA Bruins to the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Bruins enter this weekend with a 6-3 overall record but have struggled in true away matches with a 2-3 record.
