A closer look at Nebraska’s win over Texas A&M

The Nebraska women’s basketball team defeated Texas A&M 61-59 on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The victory was the first for the Huskers in the tournament since they defeated Fresno State in 2014.

Nebraska head coach Amy Williams told the media after the win that she’s excited for her team.

I’m incredibly excited for our team to be advancing in the NCAA Tournament. Just a ton of credit to Texas A&M. I think they played us defensively just very aggressively, physically, pulled us out of any type of rhythm that we really wanted to get into offensively. But we found a way in the end. Made some huge plays down the stretch.

Nebraska last won in the second round in 2013, when they defeated Texas A&M. The Cornhuskers are 2-4 all-time in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Following the win, Williams also told the media that she loves coaching this team.

It means a lot to me just because I just love coaching this team. I just love coaching this team, and I just — I’m so excited to get to continue to do that tomorrow and preparation for the next game. And I just — they love each other. They love competing with each other and for each other. And so for them to get another opportunity to keep doing that, it feels great.

The No. 6 seed Huskers will now face No. 3 seed Oregon State on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on ESPN.
