2023 quarterback recruit JT Fayard will visit Nebraska this weekend.

Fayard attends Foster High School in Richmond, TX. As a senior, he has posted 1,861 passing yards, 23 total touchdowns, and eight interceptions per MaxPreps. He is listed at 6’5″ and 215 pounds.

Fayard is not ranked by 247 Sports, Rivals, or On3. He has received offers from Nebraska and Northwestern State.

Fayard spoke to Chris Peterson of Husker Big Red about his offer from Nebraska.

“I don’t look at other QBs that were offered as I am focused on what I can do to get better every day,” Fayard said. “Nebraska offered me for a reason and I believe they know what I am capable of doing at the next level.”

The Cornhuskers have already landed one quarterback in the 2023 class: three-star recruit William Watson III. 247 Sports Composite ranks Watson as the 28th overall quarterback in the class.

2023 athlete Jahiem Johnson has committed to Tulane. He announced his decision on Twitter.

Nebraska was one of six finalists for Johnson, along with Indiana, Mississippi State, Tulane, Washington, and Washington State.

Johnson attends Hammond High School in Hammond, LA, where he plays both wide receiver and cornerback. Johnson garnered a lot of recruiting interest; he received 18 offers. He is an explosive athlete. He ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, according to Hudl. He is listed at 6’1″ and 175 pounds.

The Cornhuskers have had some recent success on the recruiting trail in Louisiana; they gained commitments from Omarion Miller and Arnold Barnes III. So, missing out on Johnson is disappointing.

2023 three-star interior offensive lineman Brandt Rice will visit Nebraska this weekend.

Rice attends West High School in Wausau, WI. 247 Sports ranks him as the fifth-best recruit in Wisconsin. He is listed at 6’5″ and 285 pounds. He has received 16 offers.

This will mark his second visit to Nebraska. He previously visited in March.

At the time, Rice spoke with Greg Smith of Hail Varsity about his experience.

“When I was there yesterday they had a scrimmage,” Rice told Smith. “They ran a ton of plays. I was watching their game-like energy. The energy there was just crazy. I was on the sideline and even on the field for some points of the scrimmage. You could feel they were ready to play. It’s definitely the energy that I play with right now. I feel like I could definitely match that. It was just a crazy atmosphere to be around.”

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have extended an offer to 2023 three-star defensive lineman Dylan Carpenter.

Carpenter committed to LSU on November 6th. He was previously committed to Louisiana. So, the Cornhuskers are attempting to flip Carpenter a second time.

2023 tight end Cayden Echternach committed to Nebraska as a preferred walk-on. Echternach is an in-state recruit; he attends Bellevue West High School. He released the following statement on Twitter:

Echternach received offers from Minnesota State and Wayne State. According to Rivals, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, and Wyoming were also among the schools interested in him.

As a senior, he recorded 17 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns per MaxPreps.

Nebraska extended an offer to a former Texas A&M defensive lineman

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have extended an offer to JUCO defensive tackle Derick Hunter Jr.

Hunter spent three seasons at Texas A&M, where he played on both the defensive line and offensive line. In 2020, he had four total tackles and a tackle for a loss.

In 2022, he transferred to Hinds Community College. In eight games, he has recorded 21 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and four sacks.

Hunter has drawn a lot of interest. He has received offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Jackson State, Mississippi State, North Texas, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas, and Western Kentucky.

Out of high school, Hunter was rated as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports. He attended Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, FL.

2023 RB Arnold Barnes III has committed to Nebraska

2023 three-star running back Arnold Barnes III has committed to Nebraska.

“The reason it’s Nebraska is because of Mickey (Joseph),” Barnes told Nick Harris of Rivals.

Barnes committed to Tulane in September. However, Nebraska still extended him an offer, and he took an official visit on October 1. He also received offers from Iowa, Charlotte, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, Navy, and Tulsa.

247 Sports ranks Barnes as the 77th-best running back in the nation and the 38th-best recruit in Louisiana. He attends KIPP Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, LA.

Barnes has put up some huge stat-lines. In September, he rushed for 365 yards and six touchdowns in a single game.

Barnes is Nebraska’s first running back commit in the 2023 class.
