The New York Jets announced on Saturday that it signed UFL MVP Quarterback Adrian Martinez ahead of the 2024 season.

A former Husker is returning to the NFL following an MVP season in the UFL. On Saturday, the New York Jets announced that it signed UFL MVP Quarterback Adrian Martinez ahead of the 2024 season.

Martinez played for the Birmingham Stallions in the United Football League. He earned UFL MVP honors by throwing for 1,749 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 528 yards. Martinez’s performance helped Birmingham to a UFL Championship, where he was named the game’s MVP.

Martinez entered the UFL after being undrafted and signed by the Detroit Lions in 2023. The Lions waived Martinez during the final roster cuts before picking him up by Birmingham. He now joins a Jets quarterback room that includes Aaron Rodgers, Tyrod Taylor, Jordan Travis, and Andrew Peasley.

Martinez played four seasons at Nebraska before transferring to Kansas State in 2022. In his final season with the Huskers, Martinez threw for 2,863 yards and 14 touchdowns, becoming the first player in school history with four 1,000-yard passing seasons.

He also averaged 308.0 yards of total offense per game, breaking his school record set during his freshman season. In his lone season at Kansas State, Martinez threw for 1,261 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 627 yards and ten touchdowns.

Safety Omar Brown selected by DC in 2024 UFL Draft

Former Husker safety Omar Brown was selected in the 10th round of the UFL draft by the DC Defenders.

The UFL held its 2024 Draft on Wednesday, providing numerous players an opportunity to play football professionally. The Nebraska football team sat back and witnessed one of its own selected.

The DC Defenders selected former Husker safety Omar Brown in the tenth round of the UFL draft. He joins a Defenders team that put together a 4-6 record in 2024 and lost the 2023 XFL Championship game.

In his collegiate career, Brown racked up 196 total tackles across five seasons, delivered 11 tackles for loss, forced three fumbles, and snatched nine interceptions.

He spent his final two seasons of collegiate action at Nebraska. Before Lincoln, he played at Northern Iowa for three seasons.

Last season, he played in all 12 games and started in eight. Brown tied for second on the team with 51 tackles. He also produced three tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one interception.

His performance helped him receive an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention while also contributing to Nebraska’s best-rushing defense (92.9 yards per game), total defense (303.5 yards per game), and scoring defense (18.3 points per game) since the Huskers joined the Big Ten in 2011.

A closer look at a former Nebraska quarterback’s first professional victory

The defending USFL Champions earn their first United Football League win!

A former Nebraska football quarterback made his United Football League debut on Saturday. Adrian Martinez and the Birmingham Stallions defeated the Arlington Renegades 27-14 on Saturday afternoon.

Martinez went 2-for-6 passing for 26 yards and an interception while adding 52 rushing yards on three attempts in relief of quarterback Matt Corral. He would exit the game late in the second quarter after suffering a foot injury.

The quarterback played at Nebraska from 2018-21 before transferring to Kansas State for the 2022 season. For his career, he threw for 9,391 yards and 49 touchdowns with 30 interceptions. He also ran for 2,847 yards and 44 touchdowns.

He was not selected in the 2023 NFL draft but spent time with the Detroit Lions in training camp before being cut. Martinez and the Birmingham Stallions have won the last two USFL championships.
