Nebraska’s losing streak to Wisconsin continued with a 24-17 overtime defeat at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday night. Wisconsin’s win was the tenth straight and improves the Badgers overall record against the Huskers to 13-4.

The Huskers had a chance late in the game to score a game-winning touchdown, but due to suspect clock management down the stretch, Nebraska was forced to settle for a field goal to send the game to overtime.

When asked about the decision to run the clock on their final possession, head coach Matt Rhule said his primary focus was on getting a field goal attempt.

I wanted to make sure we got into field goal range first. I wanted to make sure we had a chance. We were going to take one shot at the end zone. Kinda of a kin to last week. I felt good about the kick. I wanted to make sure he got in range to make the kick. Give them a chance to take a shot at the end zone and go from there. Maybe should have called a timeout earlier to give them two shots at the end zone.

The loss now places Nebraska at 5-6 on the season. The Huskers will close the regular season with its annual Black Friday game against Iowa. Kick-off from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, is set for 11:00 a.m.

Nebraska falls in overtime to Wisconsin

Based off the first two drives, it seemed as though Nebraska came to dominate on offense against Wisconsin.

Based on the first two drives, it seemed as though Nebraska came to dominate on offense against Wisconsin. But those hopes were soon extinguished on a gutsy fourth-down call by head coach Matt Rhule. Instead of attempting a 50-yard field, the Huskers went for it on fourth and one, only to be halted by the Badgers.

Then everything changed. Wisconsin outscored Nebraska 24-3 from there on out, resulting in a 24-17 overtime win for the Badgers.

Chubba Purdy earned the start for the Huskers and delivered the best showing by a Nebraska quarterback in the last few weeks. Purdy threw for 169 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown. Purdy’s touchdown pass saw him throw a dot to freshman Jaylen Lloyd, who broke a tackle and took off for a score.

But Nebraska never found its way into the endzone after that. Tristan Alvano sent the game into overtime with a 30-yard field goal after missing a 42-yarder earlier, but the inconsistent offensive play resulted in the loss.

Despite surrendering 24 points, the defense made big stops on the night, including back-to-back fourth down stops and holding Braelon Allen to just 62 yards rushing. Allen did score two touchdowns as Wisconsin slowly but surely worked its way into the endzone each time.

Nebraska falls to 5-6 on the season and will return home to host Iowa on Friday afternoon. The Huskers need to win their season finale to become bowl-eligible. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and can be viewed on CBS.

Marcus Satterfield to be Nebraska’s offensive coordinator

Matt Rhule continues to build his staff at Nebraska.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has hired his offensive coordinator as his staff continues to come together in Lincoln. Marcus Satterfield, the offensive coordinator of South Carolina, will be the new OC of the Cornhuskers. Rhule and Satterfield have coached together previously at Temple, Baylor, and Carolina.

As the offensive coordinator of South Carolina, Satterfield helped lead the Gamecocks to an 8-4 record, averaging 31.5 points. A report from Pete Thamel states that South Carolina tried to keep Satterfield, but he ultimately made the choice to join his old boss at Nebraska.

Satterfield had faced criticism from Gamecock fans throughout the 2022 season but ended the year on a high note, with wins over Tennessee and Clemson averaging 47 points over the course of those two games. Satterfield is known for a pro-style offense that relies on a physical running game and a passing game that aggressively pushes the ball down the field.

Social Media reacts to Nebraska’s victory over Iowa

The Huskers end the 2022 season with a victory!

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a chance to end the 2022 season as a spoiler and did just that as they defeated Iowa 24-17 on Black Friday. A win for Iowa would have clinched the Big Ten West and a trip to Indianapolis for the Hawkeyes. Instead, the Purdue Boilermakers can clinch the west division with a win against Indiana on Saturday.
Trey Palmer had a record-setting day as the receiver passed Stanley Morgan Jr. to become the school’s single-season receiving yards leader. Palmer had nine catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns for the game. Quarterback Casey Thompson was 20-30 for 278 yards and three touchdowns.

The Nebraska defense had one of their best games of the year, holding Iowa to 272 yards of total offense on top of forcing multiple fumbles. The Hawkeyes were also an anemic 6-15 on 3rd down and had seven penalties for 65 yards.

The Cornhuskers finished the 2022 campaign with a 4-8 record. Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph ends the year with a record of 3-6 since taking over for Scott Frost on September 11th. Joseph was seen as a candidate for the permanent head coach job, but recent reports state that Matt Rhule may be the front-runner.

The victory also ends Nebraska’s seven-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes. Scroll below for social media reactions to Nebraska’s victory over Iowa.
