Later this week, three future Nebraska Cornhuskers will participate in one of High School football’s top all-star games. Carter Nelson, Dylan Raiola, and Preston Taumua will participate in the 2024 Polynesian Bowl.

The game will see the top high school players in the country ‘gather in Hawaii to celebrate culture and play the game they love.’ The two teams will be coached by former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.

Lewis currently serves as a special advisor to the head coach at Arizona State. Zimmer last served as an analyst/consultant at Jackson State during the 2022 campaign.

The Polynesian Bowl will occur on Friday, January 19, at 8:00 p.m. CT from Kunuiakea Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, live on NFL Network. You can find a complete breakdown of the Huskers participating in the game below.

The 2024 group is currently ranked as the No. 19 ranked recruiting class in the country and the No. 6 ranked class in the Big Ten Conference. One of those top recruits is five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Raiola is Nebraska’s first five-star recruit since running back Marlon Lucky in 2006 and is the highest-ranked prospect in the modern recruiting era.

The Huskers continue to show success recruiting in-state under Matt Rhule as well. Nebraska signed eight players from the state of Nebraska for the second season in a row. Four-star tight end Carter Nelson leads this year’s group out of Ainsworth, who is also the state’s top recruit.

The service ranked Nebraska’s 2024 class as the sixth-best group in the Big Ten. That class holds 29 commitments with one five-star recruit, seven four-stars, and 13 three-stars.

There was no drama for the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the start of the early signing period. Five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola signed in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

The legacy prospect is now the highest-ranked recruit for Nebraska in the modern era. Raiola also has a strong personal connection with the Cornhuskers. His father, Dominic Raiola, played at Nebraska from 1998 to 2000 and was the first Rimington Trophy winner.

His uncle Donovan is Nebraska’s offensive line coach. The 6-foot-2.5, 230-pound quarterback was also previously committed to Ohio State during his recruitment before flipping to Georgia earlier this year.

Raiola threw for over 2,800 yards this past season and had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 34-to-1 for Buford High School in Georgia. He passed for 8,442 yards and 88 touchdowns for his career while throwing just 11 interceptions.

A former Miami commit appears to be trending toward the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Vincent Shavers is a three-star linebacker out of Miami Gardens, Florida.

Shavers had been committed to the Hurricanes since May 19 but took a trip to Nebraska over the weekend. His father, Vincent Shavers Sr., tweeted about his son’s excitement over his time in Lincoln.

“I like to thank Coach Rhule and his amazing staff for the hospitality they showed me and my family on the OV. It was beyond more than I expected. The wait is over. LETS GO BIG RED!!!!”

CaneSport’s Stephen Wagner said that Shavers showed a considerable improvement in his ability during the 2023 season.

“Shavers is faster, stronger, more physical and has a much more thorough understanding of his defensive responsibilities after spending the 2023 calendar year under the tutelage of Central head coach Jube Joseph.”

The linebacker will make his official announcement at his signing ceremony on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. CT.

A Texas edge rusher has decommitted from Nebraska.

A Texas edge rusher decommitted from Nebraska. Frisco Lonestar pass-rushing specialist Jaxon Lee made the announcement on social media on Saturday evening.

“I sincerely thank coach Rhule, coach White, coach Dvoracek, and coach Cooper for the opportunity. At this time, I would like to decommit from Nebraska.”

The class of 2024 recruit finished the year with 61 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and three forced fumbles this past season. When Lee committed at the end of October, he told 247Sports why he decided to commit to the Cornhuskers.

“I loved everything about Nebraska. We were warmly received by all the coaching staff,” Lee said. “The facilities were top-notch. The game-day atmosphere was crazy! The tour was awesome! The food was pretty good, too.”

It’s believed Lee is planning to sign with Tulsa.
