Nebraska soccer holds off Northwestern in 3-2 thriller

The Huskers kicked off the month of October with a road trip to Evanston.

The Huskers kicked off the month of October with a road trip to Evanston, Illinois, for a matchup with Northwestern. Nebraska faced a fierce battle with the Wildcats. Despite going up 2-0, the Huskers watched as Northwestern came back to tie it up with under eight minutes to play. But a quick response by Nebraska put the game away, giving it the 3-2 win.

The Wildcats outshot the Huskers, 21-16 with 11 on goal against Nebraska’s six. But goalkeeper Sami Hauk finished with a season-high eight saves in the win for the Huskers, keeping Northwestern to just the two goals. For Nebraska, Eleanor Dale continued to act as the main driving force for the team’s scoring, delivering two more goals in the victory. Dale shot the first and the last goal for the Huskers, with sophomore Briley Hill scoring the middle goal of the afternoon.

Dale’s two-goal games now puts her at 17 goals on the season, which leads the nation and places her in the top-10 for goals in a season at Nebraska. This also makes it her seventh multi-score game of the season, and her 10th in her career, tying her for fifth all-time at Nebraska.

The Huskers move to 8-2-3 on the season and will return home to clash with Iowa on Saturday. The match is set for 1:05 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.

Where Nebraska’s 2023 opponents rank in the preseason USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

One of the traditions of college football is the weekly release of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

One of the traditions of college football is the weekly release of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Earlier in the week, the preseason edition of the 2023 poll was released.

While head coach Matt Rhule is one of the voters for the season, Nebraska failed to earn a single vote. What about the Husker’s schedule heading into the season opener on August 31?

In fact, only half of Nebraska’s 12 opponents received votes, while only two teams were actually named to the Top 25. One interesting bit of trivia is that Iowa received the most points without cracking the list.
