Two Notre Dame stars get weekly ACC awards, one gets national award

The ACC announced their weekly awards, with Notre Dame’s Liam Eichenberg and Ian Book getting recognized, while Book got national attention as well.

After the Irish went out and dominated Pittsburgh on the road to a tune of 45-3, there was surely going to be some recognition with such an impressive performance. That’s exactly what happened this afternoon as the ACC released their weekly awards and two Notre Dame players were among the best of this past weeks play.

Eichenberg helped the offense roll up 434 yards while Book passed for 312 of those. Book’s performance (16/30 for 3 touchdowns) caught more than just the ACC’s eye’s as he was named to the Davey O’Brien’s Great 8 list as well.

It was one hell of an offensive performance for the Irish this past week an they will look to build on it this weekend as they once again hit the road to face off against Georgia Tech.

The hype is real for Notre Dame freshman Michael Mayer. The 5-Star recruit from Kentucky has lived up to his billing so far this season. He cashed in on this play from 14-yards out.

The touchdown for the freshman is the second of his career, expanding the Notre Dame lead to 38-3 in the third quarter.

The Notre Dame defense continues to come up with big plays, this time All-American linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramah picks off Pittsburgh’s Joey Yellen.

The second pick of the game for Notre Dame was a very athletic and impressive play from Owusu-Koramah.

Brian Kelly pushed the right buttons late in the first half. He knew the offense probably couldn’t score with just a few ticks left on the clock, so Kelly called a time-out and drew this up.

What an enormous play to end the half for the Irish. The special teams touchdown gives Notre Dame a 28-3 lead over Pittsburgh at the half.

The Irish wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Ian Book led the Irish to a 11-play, 75-yard scoring drive which ended with this big play.

The 34-yard touchdown is the first of transfer Bennett Skowronek’s Notre Dame career. Irish up early 7-0 in Pittsburgh.
