Notre Dame baseball has multiple players enter the transfer portal

The Irish see more than a few players enter the portal

After a disappointing 2023 [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball season, the Irish are seeing multiple players enter the transfer portal as the NCAA Tournament is set to start later in the week.

After two consecutive seasons making the tournament, last year making the College World Series, head coach Link Jarrett left for his alma mater, Florida State. [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] was brought in to replace Jarrett and guided his team to a 30-24 overall record while being 15-15 in ACC play.

It wasn’t enough to make the tourney and just today, multiple players have entered the transfer portal. Find out below which Notre Dame baseball players will move on.

Bowen has a lot on his plate

The newest [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football and baseball star has arrived on campus and [autotag]Drayk Bowen[/autotag] is trying to find a balance juggling both sports at the collegiate level.

With spring practice fast approaching and baseball in full swing, Bowen has a lot on his plate at the moment. Not only does he have to practice for both the school aspect is thrown into the mix.

There have been plenty of successful athletes in South Bend play both and it would be great to see Bowen succeed in the diamond and the gridiron. Check out below as he explains how he juggles his schedule right now.

Notre Dame takes second game of midweek series with a weird walk-off winner

Not your traditional walk-off winner but the Irish will take it

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball is having some fun so far on their spring break trip. Since this week has turned they’ve defeated [autotag]Georgia Tech[/autotag] on Sunday, beat St. Jospeh’s on Tuesday and on Wednesday did the exact same.

It wasn’t easy for the Irish, as SJU’s bats were just as effective, especially late. Through six innings, it looked like Notre Dame would eke out a win, up 6-4, but that all changed in the top of the seventh.

St. Joseph’s would score five runs in the top of the inning, giving them a 9-6 lead, but this Irish team wouldn’t fold. They battled back with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game and then drama in the bottom of the ninth.

The SJU’s pitchers had been wild all afternoon and that didn’t change in the final inning. They would hit three Irish batters, the biggest one being [autotag]Brooks Coetzee[/autotag] with the bases loaded, who got plunked for the fourth time in the game, plating the game winning run.

It wasn’t a traditional walk-off win, but regardless, the Irish will take the win. Their record improves to 8-6 on the season, with a three-game series at Wake Forest up next starting on Friday.

Notre Dame baseball falls 5-4 against Lipscomb

Game one didn’t result in their first win but tomorrow is another day

This wasn’t the way new [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] envisioned opening the season: losing to Lipscomb, 5-4. It was a difficult go for the Irish hitters, who mustered one hit all afternoon.

The hit was a big one. Outfielder [autotag]TJ Williams[/autotag] blasted a two-run homer in the top of the fifth. The offense showed some life late, putting two runners on in the ninth. Both advanced and scored on wild pitches. With two outs, Zack Prajzner walked and Williams came to the plate. He struck out to end the game.

It wasn’t easy on Irish pitchers either. Both starter [autotag]Blake Hely[/autotag] and reliever [autotag]Jack Findlay[/autotag] gave up multiple runs.

Hely lasted three innings, giving up three runs while striking out just one. Findlay came in to relieve him. While he had his strikeout pitches working, fanning seven, he gave up two runs in his three innings.

The Irish try again for win No. 1 of the year on Saturday, 3 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Notre Dame can’t close North Carolina late, lose series opener

This one hurts

For eight innings it looked like [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball was going to start their weekend with a bang. The Irish hit four home runs and held onto a 8-4 lead heading into the ninth inning.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame couldn’t hold onto the lead and squandered a chance to defeat a ranked [autotag]North Carolina[/autotag] team.

It’s a tough loss for a team that looked to be hitting their stride after taking last weekend’s series against Louisville, two games to one, and blanking Butler in their midweek game.

The Irish pitching gave up two home runs, one a grand slam, in the top of the ninth, as they struggled to stop the Tar Heel’s bats.

Notre Dame’s season record now stands at 13-10, with a 4-6 record in ACC play. The series resumes tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. EST barring another change due to weather conditions.

Notre Dame baseball takes home series against Louisville, first in program history

A historic series for Notre Dame in South Bend

It was quite the weekend for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball. On Friday nights series opener again [autotag]Louisville[/autotag], the Irish put together four runs in the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings and held off the Cardinal 4-3.

Saturday saw bad weather in South Bend, so the series would have to finish on Sunday with a double-header. Notre Dame would win another one run game, this time 5-4, again the 5th inning was magic as they scored all their runs in that inning.

The win made history in [autotag]Frank Eck Stadium[/autotag], as it was the first time ever that Notre Dame had won a home series against Louisville.

The finale would be a close contest as well, the Irish coming up just short, losing 2-1, narrowly missing a sweep of the visitors. The weekend series victory would improve the season record to 12-9 with a 4-5 mark in ACC play.

Notre Dame gets a day off today and will be back on the diamond on Tuesday as they host Butler with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.

Home, sweet home! Notre Dame baseball wins their home opener

The Irish enjoyed home cooking

For many northern baseball teams, your home season doesn’t start until you’ve played a handful of games and that was exactly the case for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag].

The Irish had played themselves to a 9-8 record until they finally hosted their first game in Frank Eck Stadium today against Valparaiso. Safe to say the home cooking helped as the Irish won 8-4.

Notre Dame was down early, 2-0 after the top of the 3rd before the bats woke up. They cut the lead in half in the bottom of the 3rd before taking the lead for good with 3 runs scored in the bottom of the 4th.

It was all about the long ball as [autotag]Zach Prajzner[/autotag] hit a solo homer first then [autotag]Jack Zyska[/autotag] hit a 3-run blast as the Irish took the lead. Valpo would battle back and cut the lead to 4-3 but that was as close as they’d get.

The Irish answered the visitors two runs in the 7th with four of their own to get to the final tally of 8-4.

Notre Dame will now have a few days to rest before they welcome in Louisville over the weekend for a 3-game ACC matchup.

Notre Dame baseball brings bats Sunday, still loses series against Georgia Tech

The Irish are now even early in the season

It was a tough weekend for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball, but they were able to salvage the series finale against Georgia Tech, winning 17-4.

The first two games of the series didn’t go the Irish’s way, losing on Friday 7-4 and then on Saturday 15-2. By avoiding the sweep on Sunday, Notre Dame evened their record at 6-6 on the year, 1-2 in ACC play.

The Irish scored early and often on getaway day, plating double-digits runs in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th inning. Multiple players had more than one hit with [autotag]Jack Penney[/autotag] leading the way with three hits and 5 RBI. [autotag]Brooke Coetzee[/autotag] scored four runs while [autotag]TJ Williams[/autotag] came across three times.

Notre Dame has a quick turnaround as they have a two-game set against Saint Joseph in North Carolina starting Tuesday afternoon. The series concludes on Wednesday then they stay inside the state as they face off against Wake Forest over the weekend.

The team looks relaxed and ready

The [autotag]Notre Dame Baseball[/autotag] team is a month away from first pitch, but it seems like first-year head coach [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] is already in mid-season form. The initial season from the new Irish coach should be very telling as to where the program is headed.

The team under [autotag]Link Jarrett[/autotag] went 86-32 during two full seasons and the shortened COVID-19 2020 campaign. One can argue that was the greatest stretch ever for Notre Dame Baseball, even though it was short-lived.

When Jarrett opted to return to his alma mater, [autotag]Florida State[/autotag], he left a massive hole that Stiffler is expected to fill. The new Irish coach seems like a very likable leader and his record at [autotag]VCU[/autotag] was very impressive at 352-207.

If the Irish play as loose as they seem in this video of Stiffler mic’d up, then it should bode very well for the first season with him as the head coach.

Notre Dame baseball wins Sunday, takes series over North Carolina-Greensboro

The Irish win their first series of the season

The [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball team had a pivotal game on Sunday afternoon against host North Carolina-Greensboro and came out victorious 7-4. The Irish jumped on UNCG early, withstood their comeback attempt and evened up their record at 3-3.

The Irish used speed early as [autotag]Zach Prajzner[/autotag] stole second and [autotag]Brooks Coetzee[/autotag] drove him in to get the scoring started. Coetzee would then plate another run in the top of the fourth with a single and the Irish scored another on a walk and bad defense by UNCG. [autotag]Danny Neri[/autotag] would finish off the inning with a single plating two, giving the Irish an early 5-0 lead.

UNCG would score three of their own in the bottom of the fourth, but the Irish answered with one in the top of the fifth, scoring on a passed ball. [autotag]TJ Williams[/autotag] finished off the offense for Notre Dame with a RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Starting pitcher [autotag]Blake Hely[/autotag] struggled through 3.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out just one. Relievers [autotag]Will Mercer[/autotag], [autotag]Matt Bedford[/autotag] and [autotag]Carter Bosch[/autotag] pitched clean outings while [autotag]Sammy Cooper[/autotag] gave up a run in his .2 innings of work.

Notre Dame gets back to action next weekend as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face UAB. Game one of the series is set to start on Friday, with first pitch at 3:00 p.m. ET.
