Texas A&M star outfielder Jace LaViolette explains why he decided to return to Aggieland

“Aggieland… the past two years has undoubtedly been the best two years of my life. Mike Earley is the best coach in the nation,” he said.

After briefly entering the transfer portal following the departure of former head coach Jim Schlossnagle to the Longhorns, sophomore outfielder Jace LaViolette became one of numerous Aggies to announce their respective return to Texas A&M this past week.

“Aggieland… the past two years has undoubtedly been the best two years of my life,” LaViolette said in a hype video. “Mike Earley is the best coach in the nation. There is nobody that I would rather play for.

“Gig ‘Em!”

LaViolette spoke to KBTX sports reporter Nicole Griffith on Tuesday at Michael Earley‘s press conference that introduced him as the new Aggies head coach.

“Honestly I’m just excited to finally see Mike in front of the whole team once everything settles down and just be like, ‘Hey, lets go do this! I’m the next head coach and we’re going to have a lot of fun,'” LaViolette foretold. “This team is going to play really, really loose and let’s just go have fun.”

After smashing 50 home runs during his first two seasons in College Station, LaViolette is seven away from breaking the program record of 56 set by Daylan Holt in 2000.

Skip Johnson to stay with Oklahoma Sooners

Skip Johnson is set to stay as Oklahoma’s head baseball coach amid Texas A&M rumors.

Oklahoma’s baseball program and the fans around the program can take a deep breath. Skip Johnson is here to stay.

The last few weeks in the college baseball world have been a bit noisier than usual after Jim Schlossnagle surprisingly bolted from his post as the Texas A&M baseball coach for that exact position with the Texas Longhorns.

He is a two-time National Coach of the Year and, simply put, one of the best head baseball coaches in the country. After his Aggies lost in this year’s College World Series championship, he took the vacant Texas Longhorns job.

In the time that has followed, Texas A&M has been feverishly trying to find his replacement. One name that was brought up was Oklahoma’s Skip Johnson.

Reports surfaced Friday afternoon that Johnson was the guy for the Aggies. Josh Callaway of Sooners Illustrated for 247Sports and Kendall Rogers, managing editor for D1Baseball, denied them.

Today, athletic director Joe Castiglione announced that Skip Johnson will stay on as Oklahoma’s head coach and receive an extension that will run through 2029.

Johnson’s work in Norman hasn’t gone unnoticed, and he has the Sooners on an upward trajectory as it enters the SEC.

The key for Oklahoma to take the next step is to back it up financially in name, image, and likeness and upgrade the facilities to match some of the investment other SEC baseball programs receive. If the baseball team can get to that level, with Skip Johnson’s baseball insight and leadership, Oklahoma can touch unfamiliar heights in baseball.

With questions about Johnson’s future in Norman behind them, the Sooners can now focus on preparing for next season and attacking the transfer portal hard as they prepare for the first baseball season as SEC members.

USC cornerback Ceyair Wright transfers to Nebraska

Former USC cornerback Ceyair Wright officially transferred to the Huskers on Friday afternoon.

The Nebraska football team added another transfer to their roster. Former USC cornerback Ceyair Wright officially transferred to the Huskers on Friday afternoon.

A Top 100 recruit in the 2021 class, Wright played football at Loyola High School before heading to USC. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior will have two years of eligibility remaining when he arrives at Nebraska.

He will join a deep defensive back room containing D’Andre Barnes, Mario Buford, and Jeremiah Charles.

Wright is also an actor, a fourth-year junior. He has appeared in movies such as “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” in which he plays one of LeBron James’ sons, and the series “Grown-ish,” in which he has a recurring role as Zeke Bracey.

2 more Texas A&M baseball players enter NCAA transfer portal, bringing total to 9 thus far

Per D1Baseball managing editor Kendall Rogers, junior shortstop Ali Camarillo and freshman left-hander Kaiden Wilson have enter the portal.

Amid the fallout of head coach Jim Schlossnagle departing Texas A&M for bitter rival Texas on Tuesday, nine Aggies have exercised their right to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Seven players initially entered the portal on Wednesday afternoon and two more have joined the group as of Wednesday evening. According to D1Baseball managing editor Kendall Rogers, junior shortstop Ali Camarillo and freshman left-handed pitcher Kaiden Wilson have followed suit.

The other seven players are freshman third baseman Gavin Grahovac, outfielder Caden Sorrell and shortstop Jack Bell; sophomore outfielder Jace LaViolette, second baseman Kaeden Kent and catcher Max Kaufer; and graduate student designated-hitter Hayden Schott.

Camarillo and Schott are the only portal entrants that are eligible for the 2024 MLB draft in July. Junior OF Braden Montgomery is likely to be drafted in the top 10 despite suffering a season-ending injury in the super regionals.

Amid the transfer madness on Wednesday, Montgomery’s mom Gretchen shared words of wisdom on her private X account.

“Don’t freak out about the transfer portal!! The players have to protect themselves — A&M doesn’t have a coach or staff,” she stated. “Most will get in the portal but can still stay. They will get NIL!! But nobody has more $ than A&M. Most will come back with a STRONG HIRE! Email the AD!”
