‘Doesn’t get us a trophy,’ Schlossnagle reacts to Texas A&M hosting NCAA Regional

“It’s been an outstanding regular season,” Schlossnagle said Monday afternoon. “It’s a great accomplishment but it doesn’t get us a trophy.”

The No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team will host the Bryan-College Station Regional of the NCAA Tournament beginning this weekend at Blue Bell Park.

Before postseason play against Grambling, Louisiana and Texas begins, Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle spoke to the media and reacted to the seeding.

“Excited to get back home. It seems like we’ve been on the road for a while. I’m excited to play at home for a regional and get the 12th Man involved. Hopefully the rain will stay away and I’m sure it will be great baseball all weekend,” Schlossnagle said Monday. “It’s been an outstanding regular season. If you had told us before the season that this is where we were going to end up, I think everybody would’ve signed up for it.

“Three of the last four weeks haven’t been great. But like I said earlier, they call it a season for a reason and that’s because we’ve earned the right to get to play at home on Friday. It doesn’t mean anything after that, you’ve got to play well.

“It’s a great accomplishment but it doesn’t get us a trophy. It’s a means to hopefully what is a positive end.”

‘I’ve never liked them,’ Texas baseball player discusses Aggies and Longhorns rivalry

The Texas A&M baseball team is the third seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host the Bryan-College Station Regional at Blue Bell Park.

The Texas A&M baseball team is the third overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will host the Bryan-College Station Regional at Blue Bell Park.

The No. 3 Aggies (44-13, 19-11 SEC) will battle against the University of Texas, University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Grambling State. Prior to postseason baseball beginning, a prominent Longhorns player spoke about the matchup versus Texas A&M

“A&M has always been a rivalry,” sophomore Jared Thomas said Monday. “I’ve never liked them personally.”

The beef between Aggies and Longhorns fans has increased in recent years and only intensified this season. Texas A&M traveled to UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin at the beginning of March and blew out Texas 9-2.

With the return of the Lone Star Showdown in November at Kyle Field, plus the Longhorns joining the SEC in the fall, the vitriol between the two Texas fan bases is likely to keep skyrocketing.

We’ll see if the trash talk can remain civilized and respectful as it continues to ratchet up.

Texas A&M is 1-of-12 schools to accomplish a men’s sports hat trick this year

Texas A&M has had several phenomenal performances in men’s athletics during the 2023-24 school year, which was solidified this weekend.

Texas A&M has had several phenomenal performances in men’s athletics during the 2023-24 school year, which was solidified this weekend.

The No. 3 Aggies baseball team (44-13, 19-11 SEC) earned the third overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Texas A&M will host the Bryan-College Station Regional against the Texas Longhorns, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and Grambling State Tigers.

In December, the Aggies football team played in the Texas Bowl. Then the men’s basketball team parlayed March Madness success at the SEC Tournament to an NCAA Tournament bid.

By reaching the postseason in three men’s sports, Texas A&M became 1-of-12 schools to accomplish the feat this year. According to Ben Stevens on X, the other universities are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arizona Wildcats, Clemson Tigers, Duke Blue Devils, James Madison Dukes, Kentucky Wildcats, North Carolina Tar Heels, NC State Wolfpack, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers and Texas.

Ross Bjork might’ve departed Aggieland in January for The Ohio State University but he left the men’s programs in great shape.

Arkansas one of five SEC teams set to host NCAA Baseball regional

Arkansas will be one of the 16 regional hosts for the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Diamond Hogs will learn their official seeding for the tournament Monday at 11 a.m. CDT.

To no one’s surprise, the Arkansas Razorbacks were named one of the 16 teams that will host an on-site regional for the 2024 NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced Sunday night.

It’s the 11th time in program history that Arkansas will host a regional and the sixth time since 2017. The regional round of the postseason will begin Friday, May 31 and run through Monday, June 3 (if necessary).

Super Regional play is scheduled for June 7-9 or June 8-10. The opening day of the College World Series in Omaha is scheduled for Friday, June 14.

Official seeding for the 64-team NCAA Tournament, and which teams Arkansas will welcome to the Fayetteville Regional, will be unveiled Monday at 11 a.m. CDT on ESPN2.

The Razorbacks (43-14 overall) entered Sunday as a consensus top-eight national seed in Field of 64 projections from both D1Baseball and Baseball America. Both had the Diamond Hogs as the No. 5 overall seed.

RELATED: Arkansas baseball to host these teams in Sunday Field of 64 projections

If those projections hold true, the Razorbacks would host a best-of-three Super Regional at Baum-Walker Stadium, if they win their four-team, double-elimination Fayetteville Regional.

Arkansas was one of five SEC teams that were announced as regional host sites for the tournament. As expected, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Georgia were named regional hosts, as well.

Tennessee, which won the SEC Tournament Sunday with a 4-3 win over LSU, is considered a lock to be the No. 1 overall seed for the tournament.

As for Arkansas, the Razorbacks fell to South Carolina and Kentucky on back-to-back days at the SEC Tournament last week but are currently No. 5 in the NCAA’s RPI rankings, the primary metric used for NCAA Tournament seeding.

Despite early exit, Texas projected as No. 2 seed in NCAA Regional projections

Are we on our way to a showdown with Texas A&M once the NCAA Regionals get underway?

The Texas Longhorns didn’t have quite the end to the Big 12 tournament that they might have expected in Arlington. Texas fell to Texas Tech in their opening round matchup and were eliminated by the Cincinnati Bearcats soon after.

Despite not getting beyond the second round of the tourney, everything is still on the table for the Horns. They finished the regular season at 35-22 (20-10 Big 12) in their final season in the conference. All eyes now shift to where they will land in the NCAA Regionals. One projection has Texas facing off with an old rival.

According to D1 Baseball, the Texas Longhorns would join a field of four schools in the College Station Regional.

  1. Texas A&M
  2. Texas
  3. Lamar
  4. Niagara

The Longhorns would have an opportunity to stick it to the long-time in-state rivals for a chance to advance to the Super Regionals. The Aggies and Longhorns met on the diamond back in March at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. It didn’t go the way of the Horns. However, if this projection holds true, perhaps Texas can return the favor and end the Aggies 2024 run to the College World Series abruptly.

Other Big 12 teams in the D1 Baseball Projection

Brett Rojo-USA TODAY Sports
  • No. 3 Kansas State Wildcats (Fayetteville, Arkansas)
  • No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners (Norman, Oklahoma)
  • No. 3 UCF Knights (Tallahassee, Florida)
  • No. 2 West Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia)
  • No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs (Santa Barbara, California)
  • No. 1 Oklahoma State Cowboys (Stillwater, Oklahoma)

Texas A&M softball defeats Texas State in the Regional Finals to advance

The Aggie hit their way to an 8-0 victory over Texas State to move on the Austin Super Regional

After a tough defensive contest in the first game, Texas A&M (43-13) beat Texas State (47-14) for the second time in this regional in impressive fashion 8-0 to advance to the Super Regionals in Austin.

The Aggie offense woke up on Sunday recording 12 hits, a stark difference from the two recorded in game one. It started the same as game one, with the Aggies scoring a single run off a sacrifice fly, allowing Koko Wooley to cross home plate.

However, unlike the first game, in the first inning, A&M found its timing against the Bobcats’ pitching, with both Rylen Wiggins and Kennedy Powell hitting home runs to go up 4-0 early.

In the bottom of the inning, the Aggies continued their offensive onslaught with five hits. Ayana Coleman, Powell, and Wooley all notched RBIs, leading to a four-run inning and extending the Aggies’ lead to 8. However, one thing that remained consistent was the stellar performance of the Aggies’ pitching, led by Emiley Kennedy, and their solid defense. Kennedy, backed by her All-SEC defense, allowed only one hit, leading the resounding 8-0 victory.

Get to know Auburn’s opponents in Tallahassee Regional

Ahead of Auburn’s first game in the NCAA Tournament, get to know the teams that are in the Tallahassee Regional this weekend

The Auburn Tigers are preparing to make their 19th appearance in the postseason in program history. The Tigers are heading to the Tallahassee Regional in this year’s NCAA Softball Tournament, hosted by the No. 15 seed Florida State Seminoles.

On top of Florida State, the regional also features the UCF Knights and the Chattanooga Mocs. These four teams make up the field for the fourth time that Auburn is making the trip to this part of the Sunshine State for its starting point in the postseason.

Here is what’s to know about each of the Tigers’ potential opponents in the field:

The Seminoles come in with a 43-14 record on the year after having lost to Duke in the ACC title game. They have a dominating 26-6 record on their home field this year, with their last loss coming to the Florida Gators in the final home game of the year.

Florida State holds the eighth-highest batting average in the nation at .339 and the fifth-most home runs at 85. Jaysoni Beachum is its best batter, posting a .436 batting average, which is good enough to be No. 11 in the country.

UCF enters with a 30-23 record after losing in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Between the away and neutral site games, it is a combined 10-14.

The Knights are making their 11th postseason appearance all-time this weekend. Out of the players who have played in over 45 games on their team, Johneisha Rowe holds the team’s top batting average at .372. Jada Cody and Chloe Evans hold the top hit numbers at 57 and 53, respectively.

Sarah Willis is the team’s number one pitcher, holding a 2.44 earned run average. The staff overall holds a 3.16 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

Chattanooga enters the postseason for the 13th time holding a 42-14 record after being champions of the SOCON. It holds a 24-7 record between its away and neutral site contests. Despite that, though, it is 7-24 in the tournament over the course of the program’s history.

The Mocs hold a .304 team batting average. Camryn Cernuto, Kaili Phillips and Olivia Lipari are their stars at the plate. Each player holds a .344 average and above, making the trio a big threat for opponents.

Peja Goold and Alyssa Lavdis are the team’s main starters in the circle, each having had at least 15 starts on the season. Goold leads the team in strikeouts at 121 and holds a 2.74 ERA.

The Tallahassee Regional is set to start on Friday. Auburn takes on UCF in game one at 1 p.m. CST on ESPNU, while Florida State will face off with Chattanooga 3:30 p.m. CST on the ACC Network.
