OKC Thunder Twitter: Tre Mann finally gets verified

Welcome to the club, Tre!

After getting flamed on Twitter by fellow rookie teammates Josh Giddey and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Tre Mann was finally given the blue checkmark on his account.

After replying to a tweet from Robinson-Earl, Mann asked his teammate how he can get verified on Twitter. Giddey would then egg him on by saying to avoid missing free throws that would get him to 30 points.

This is a reference to Mann’s 29-point performance against the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 2, where a missed free throw late in the game stumped his chances of achieving the nice round number of 30 during his then-career-high. Giddey would then poke fun at Mann over this fact after the win by saying he didn’t get the “30 ball.”

Mann, who was drafted 18th overall in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft, has played phenomenal this season as he has averaged 10.4 points on 50.1 true shooting percentage.

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid exploding in a Sixers win over Cavs

NBA Twitter gave their best reactions as Joel Embiid led the Philadelphia 76ers over the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road.

With the Philadelphia 76ers struggling to shoot the basketball, they needed somebody to finally break through and lead the team on the offensive end against the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road.

That is where Joel Embiid stepped up and provided yet another monstrous performance as he builds his case to win MVP. The big fella had 44 points, 17 rebounds, five blocks, and three assists to lead the Sixers to a 112-108 win over the Cavs and Philadelphia officially clinched a playoff spot for the fifth consecutive season.

The Sixers shot only 5-for-19 in the first quarter as a team and they were at 30.8% at the half as Cleveland built a 12-point lead. It looked like it was going to be a disappointing finish for Philadelphia as they continue to find chemistry with this new group, but Embiid wasn’t going to let that happen.

Here are some of the best reactions on NBA TWitter following the performance:

NBA Twitter reacts to Sixers star James Harden’s struggles in loss to Suns

NBA Twitter gives their best reactions to Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden struggling in a loss to the Phoenix Suns.

The Philadelphia 76ers got off to a very good start on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns. They scored 39 points in the opening quarter. The ball was moving, and they were getting everybody involved as they built a 15-point lead in the second quarter.

None of it mattered.

They fell to the Suns, 114-104. The offense bogged down. The Sixers couldn’t find an open shot, and when they did, they weren’t able to convert. They shot 31.9% in the second half after shooting 52.4% from the floor in the first half.

The player who drew the most ire was James Harden. The scoring maestro had one of those games. He shot 2-for-11 from the floor and had 14 points on a night the Sixers needed more. The Beard chalked it up to needing to be more aggressive, but it was still peculiar either way.

NBA Twitter had reactions after the game.

OKC Thunder social media: Josh Giddey ratios a random

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Josh Giddey ratio’d a random on Twitter after tweeting about what constitutes as an MVP.

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Josh Giddey — who was officially ruled out for the remaining eight games in the regular season on Saturday — went to Twitter to express his definition of what the MVP should be.

Using an old Peyton Manning quote, Giddey said that the most valuable player is the player that makes the most players valuable. This basically means that the player that helps makes his teammates better should be the MVP. Which is quite the argument to make considering Giddey’s strength as a player involves passing and playmaking abilities.

Giddey would then respond to an account saying that they saw Giddey’s deleted tweet of him quote tweeting the Manning quote. Giddey would respond by saying that he can also see this ratio.

For those who don’t know, a ratio means that a reply to a tweet vastly outnumbers the likes and retweets, which means that the replied tweet is considered poor by public opinion.

Giddey rarely uses Twitter so it was nice to see some personality from the 19-year-old, who is arguably the best TikToker in the NBA.

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid, Sixers knocking off shorthanded Lakers

NBA Twitter reacts to Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers knocking off the shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers on the road.

While most on the East Coast were sleeping, the Philadelphia 76ers picked up a weird win over the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. It was a solid start to a three-game West Coast trip despite bad defensive stretches and lulls on the offensive end.

The Sixers received big nights out of Joel Embiid, James Harden, Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris to get the job done. Embiid had 30 points, Harden added 24, Maxey had 21 and Harris had 20 against a Lakers team missing LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

It was an impressive night for Philadelphia’s top four players and NBA Twitter had many reactions to the big night for Embiid and the Sixers.

Philadelphia will stay in Los Angeles to take on the Clippers on Friday night for the second game of the trip.

NBA Twitter reacts to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies both wearing white uniforms

NBA Twitter reacts to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies both wearing white uniforms before their game on Sunday.

The Oklahoma City Thunder’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday trended on social media for reasons that don’t involve the game. For the second time in as many seasons, there was a uniform mishap at Paycom Center.

Both the Thunder and Grizzlies entered the court wearing white-colored uniforms. After a brief delay, the Grizzlies returned back to the court after a quick change of clothes to their blue uniforms.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said he gives the Grizzlies for changing as quickly as they did. “I give them credit. They changed very quickly,” said Daigneault. “I saw orange uniforms and red uniforms last year, so the streak continues.”

Darius Bazley said that he was caught by surprise when he saw the Grizzlies players wearing white uniforms as well and jokingly said that they needed to get their things together.

NBA Twitter also had its fun with the uniform mishap. Let’s take a look at some of the funnier tweets.

NBA Twitter reacts to the Thunder ball boy breaking up a Timberwolves transition bucket

NBA Twitter had its fun with the OKC ball boy mishap that prevented a Timberwolves bucket.

Arguably the highlight of the night during the shorthanded Oklahoma City Thunder’s 37-point blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday came in the form of the cleanup crew who are assigned to help mop the empty side of the court in between possessions.

Late in the third quarter, with the Thunder bringing the ball up midcourt, Isaiah Roby lost the ball to Jordan McLaughlin, who then had a clear path for an easy layup before running into one of the ball boys. The Timberwolves failed to score despite getting an additional putback attempt on the miss and the Thunder got the ball back. Ultimately, there was no harm and no foul since the Timberwolves were up by 17 points up to this point of the game and ended up winning by 37 points.

When asked about the incident after the game, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault called it weird and said that it was their fault for playing so loose with the ball and turning it over.

This clip made its rounds on Twitter as many said it’s some of the best defense the league has seen this year. Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets from this hilarious incident.

Kenny Smith argues that Anthony Davis would lift Rockets to playoffs

NBA Twitter had some fun at the expense of TNT analyst Kenny Smith after his statement that adding Anthony Davis (hypothetically) would put the Rockets into the 2022 playoffs.

In Thursday’s postgame segment after another blowout loss from the reeling Los Angeles Lakers, TNT analyst and former NBA player Kenny Smith argued that injured superstar Anthony Davis could lift any team to the playoffs — including the young and rebuilding Houston Rockets.

Smith’s quip to his TNT colleagues was an attempt to underscore how significant Davis’ absence is to the Lakers. His comment:

If you have Anthony Davis in any lineup, with any team… If I put Anthony Davis on the Houston Rockets, they’re gonna be significantly in the playoffs.

Smith later added the San Antonio Spurs (24-39) and Portland Trail Blazers (25-37) to his statement, which is a more reasonable take. After all, the Spurs are currently only 0.5 games back of the No. 10 spot for the Western Conference play-in tournament. Portland is 2.5 back.

Houston (15-47), however, is 11 games back while owning the worst record in the Western Conference… and there are still 20 regular-season games left for that margin to grow. In all, Davis would have to be worth something close to 15 wins by himself alone to potentially lift the Rockets even into play-in tournament range — let alone the actual playoffs.

For a player in Davis who has struggled with numerous injuries throughout his NBA career, and one who made the playoffs only two times in seven years while in New Orleans, that seems rather extreme. To Smith’s credit, he seemed to realize that when he pivoted to more moderate examples than the Rockets, such as the Blazers and Spurs.

Nonetheless, the clip made it to Twitter, and NBA fans took some playful shots at “The Jet” in response. Here’s some of the best ones.

NBA Twitter reacts to Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey winning February Rookie of the Month

NBA Twitter reacts to Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey winning February Rookie of the Month

The NBA announced its Rookie of the Month winners for the month of February and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey was announced as the recipient for the Western Conference.

Giddey has now won all four Rookie of the Month awards this season. In 10 games, Giddey averaged 16.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists. For the month of February, Giddey led all rookies in total rebounds and assists and was third in points.

Giddey is currently out as he deals with hip soreness and has missed the Thunder’s last three games. Unless Giddey returns from injury relatively soon, his streak of winning Rookie of the Month honors is in jeopardy if he misses significant time with this injury.

Let’s take a look at how NBA Twitter reacted to the 19-year-old going four-for-four in terms of Rookie of the Month awards this season.

OKC Thunder Twitter: Darius Bazley calls himself the best rapper in the NBA

Baze took Saturday to call himself the best rapper in the NBA.

During Saturday’s off day, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Darius Bazley took to Twitter to proclaim himself the best rapper in the NBA.

This declaration received some blowback from members of NBA Twitter as Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard and Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges were cited as better rappers who also play professional basketball for a living.

Lillard — who recently took shots at Oklahoma City for its free agency appeal — goes by Dame D.O.L.L.A., which stands for Different On Levels the Lord Allows. Lillard owns his own record label called “Front Page Music” and has released several albums and singles over the years.

Bridges responded back to Bazley’s tweet and it seemed like he didn’t agree with Bazley’s assessment. Bazley responded back to Bridges’ doubts by saying to wait until he drops some music and judge for himself.
