NBA fans will probably be slightly confused but nonetheless enthusiastic about the latest NBA game announced today. NBA All-World comes from Pokémon Go developer Niantic, and looks set to introduce the NBA to a global audience.
Niantic is known for augmented reality, or AR, games, which take into account your real-world location when playing. Pokémon Go is the best example of this, with local landmarks becoming PokéStops or Gyms for players to gather at and interact with.

NBA All-World is likely to replicate this formula, though how it will do so is unclear at this time. The only footage we’ve seen of All-World so far is a teaser trailer that depicts the planet turning into a giant basketball.
The tagline on the video reads “unleash a new era of hoop,” which is about as vague as the teaser itself. There’s some more information of the NBA All-World website:

In the site’s FAQ section it’s confirmed that the game will be entering soft launch soon and will initially be available in limited markets for beta testing as they improve the game for an eventual global launch. Hopefully this means the US is included in the soft launch territories.
