Where No. 1 Oregon Ducks’ championship odds stand after Week 12 win vs. Wisconsin

The Oregon Ducks odds to win the national championship went down after their close victory over Wisconsin in Week 12.

The Oregon Ducks didn’t earn any style points on Saturday night with their 16-13 win over the Wisconsin Badgers, but they didn’t need them to keep the national championship dreams alive in Eugene.

While there were a lot of things to improve upon in Week 12, Oregon now heads into a much-needed bye week with a chance to get healthy and prepare for the finals stretch run of the season, where a trip to the Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff are well within reach.

With just two weeks left in the regular season, the race for a playoff spot is heating up, with potential championship contenders trying to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. The Ducks are certainly among those championship contenders, standing as one of only three teams with an undefeated record in the Power 4.

With that path ahead, how do their national championship odds weigh out? Let’s take a look at the latest numbers, according to BetMGM.

Here’s a look at the full odds:

The odds will undoubtedly shift again over the coming weeks as we get ready for some big-time conference games.

If the Ducks can continue to take care of business in games where they’re favored, though, then Oregon should stay near the top of the odds board entering December.

Former Alabama Quarterback Weighs Marcus Freeman’s National Championship Chances

So you’re saying there’s a chance…

Winning a national championship in anything is hard but in major college football its even that much more difficult.

Consider this: only three current college head coaches have won a national championship at the FBS level.

Kirby Smart has won a pair at Georgia and appears primed to take dead aim at another this fall.

Dabo Swinney doesn’t believe much in the transfer portal but has guided Clemson to a pair of national championships in his time.

And Mack Brown didn’t do it at North Carolina but did lead Texas to their most recent national championship in 2005.

Other than that no current head coach has guided his respective team to an FBS crown.

So what are the chances that [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] can join that rare air at Notre Dame?

Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy discussed several coaches chances of winning it all on a recent episode of Always College Football.

“I put the percentage chance that he will win a national championship at Notre Dame at 10%,” said McElroy. “Still, I think, pretty good – pretty good.”

McElroy discussed Freeman and Notre Dame at length noting that he has massive respect for the Fighting Irish head coach.  He sees it more about being difficult to win big at Notre Dame specifically than any particular thing about Freeman.

“When you have to play in round one – Clemson in round one perhaps? Maybe, in round two, you have to go play Alabama. In round three you have to play Georgia. Then, for the national championship, you have to play Ohio State,” McElroy thought. “Will Notre Dame’s roster be deep enough? Will they be talented enough to be able to play up to the level of competition multiple times throughout a deeper playoff format?”

What McElroy didn’t mention is that in the current 12-team format, an undefeated Notre Dame team could theoretically have a much easier path than he mentioned.

For instance, if Notre Dame were to go 12-0 in a regular season they could very likely earn the fifth-seed which gets them a date with the top-ranked Group of Five opponent.

Following them would be the lowest seeded conference champion from the big four, likely coming from the Big 12 or ACC.

Win those games and all of a sudden you’re in the national semi-finals and the path, although plenty challenging, doesn’t appear nearly as awful.

Then again, this format will only be for the next two years.

Interesting stuff, regardless.

Oregon has among best national championship odds ahead of Pac-12 Championship Game

With one game remaining, the Oregon Ducks have among the best odds in the nation to win the national championship in 2023.

We knew that by the end of the season, if the Oregon Ducks could take care of business and keep winning every game in front of them, there was a good chance they’d have every preseason goal still standing in front of them.

One of those goals is obviously to win the national championship, and while there haven’t been a ton of upsets ahead of them in the standings, the Ducks are still standing as one of the most favored teams to win the whole thing, according to Las Vegas sportsbooks.

With the loss of Ohio State ahead of them and the struggle from Florida State with a backup quarterback, we saw both the Buckeyes and Seminoles fall a bit on the odds board. That allowed others to take advantage and move up. Here are the latest national championship odds according to FanDuel Sportsbook:

Oregon Ducks jump ahead of Alabama in national championship betting odds

After a win over Arizona State, the Oregon Ducks now have the fourth-best odds to win the national championship, passing Alabama.

We’re coming down to it in the world of college football, and with rivalry week followed by conference championship week, some major things are going to be decided over the next 14 days. Spots in the College Football Playoff are up for grabs, as are spots in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.

If you’re a fan of the Oregon Ducks, both of those things are extremely relevant. With a pair of wins over the next two weeks, it’s incredibly likely that the Ducks can achieve both and play in their second-ever playoff. Should Oregon get a spot in the playoff, there’s a decent chance that they will be favored to win their first game, as well, with a good shot in the championship game against whomever they should face.

On Sunday, we looked at the updated odds for the Heisman Trophy, where Oregon QB Bo Nix leads the way. Now let’s take a look at the odds of winning the national championship, courtesy of FanDuel SportsBook:

College football: Updated ESPN FPI Ratings Through Week 9

You have to pick it right now: Which four teams are making the playoff?

As Week 9 of the college football season has come and gone, we turn the calendar to November and start to look for the teams that are going to make runs to the College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six bowl games.

This year there are plenty of teams alive for both with some interesting candidates starting to somewhat separate themselves from the rest of the field.

How many teams can realistically win a national championship this season?  And who are the ones most likely to?

Who has the hardest tests the rest of the season and who has the easier tracks?

Is Notre Dame closer to being seen as a contender than we may tend to think?

ESPN releases their Football Power Index each week to handicap how teams match up.  They did so following Week 9 of the college football season and here is how the top 25 teams nationally turned out.

Updated national title odds see a new favorite emerge after Week 5

The updated national championship odds have a new leader according to BetMGM.

The first Saturday of October led to some drastic revisions to the national polls and, apparently, was cause for some changes to the national championship odds. Following the events of last weekend, Ohio State has moved up to the top of the national title odds according to the folks at BetMGM. The Buckeyes now have the same odds to win this year’s College Football Playoff national championship as the defending national champions from Georgia.

It is not too surprising seeing the Buckeyes ascend to the top of the board. While Alabama was winning without their Heisman Trophy quarterback Bryce Young on the road at Arkansas and Georgia had to escape on the road against Missouri, Ohio State continued to pour it on their overmatched opponents with their latest lopsided victory this season coming against Rutgers. Since the season opener against Notre Dame, Ohio State has blasted its opposition on a weekly basis.

Here is a look at the updated national title odds from BetMGM. Penn State is still to be considered a long shot, but the Nittany Lions have a chance to change that outlook with a crucial three-game stretch after their bye week this week. Penn State will play Michigan and Ohio State before the month is over.

What will it take for Florida to be national title contenders in 2022?

ESPN looked at what 20 major college football teams need to do to compete for a national championship, and let’s just say there are a lot of conditions that need to be met.

Heading into the first year of the Billy Napier era there aren’t many who are expecting the Florida Gators to compete for a national championship. The folks at ESPN like to push the boundaries of reality though and laid out what exactly needs to be done for Napier to claim glory in year one.

For starters, ESPN groups the teams by how many “ifs” it would take for them to be national title contenders. Florida is a four-If team and the first thing that has to go right is sophomore [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag] finding success. The upside is high but Napier needs to find some consistency from his young quarterback.

As a part-timer last season, Richardson produced passes of 75, 41, 38, 36, 36, 33 and 27 and rushes of 80, 73, 26 and 25. He’s got a big arm, and he is much faster than a 240-pounder has any right to be …

If Billy Napier coaxes steadier play from the sophomore, Florida goes from also-ran to contender very quickly. (“Quickly” is a must — Florida plays Utah, Kentucky and Tennessee in September.)

The next item on the list that would make Florida a contender is “if a thin skill corps makes plays.” When Dan Mullen left and Napier came in, the Gators lost a ton of talent to the transfer portal and also some to the draft.

Napier brought in running back [autotag]Montrell Johnson[/autotag], who tore up the Sun Belt Conference as a freshman under his coaching at ULL. He also brought in [autotag]Ricky Pearsall[/autotag] to help out [autotag]Justin Shorter[/autotag] at receiver, but there aren’t too many proven names behind those guys. ESPN points to [autotag]Xzavier Henderson[/autotag] as a potential difference maker this season.

There’s also plenty of youth on the defensive side of the ball. [autotag]Ventrell Miller[/autotag] and [autotag]Brenton Cox Jr[/autotag]. returning helped bolster the front seven, but ESPN says that unit will need to be much better than expected for Florida to contend.

Four leading returning defensive linemen are all sophomores, and while veteran Brenton Cox Jr. is excellent, sophomores might carry most of the upside at linebacker too. That’s not typically part of a title recipe.

Finally, if all of those other pieces come together, Florida needs its new coaching staff to get creative. The defense needs to be better than good in this dream scenario where the Gators win it all, and that requires some ingenuity from co-defensive coordinators [autotag]Patrick Toney[/autotag] and [autotag]Sean Spencer[/autotag]. Coach Chaos (Spencer) has the nickname to match, but there needs to be true havoc on the field.

The Gators ranked 98th in havoc rate* last season. Defensive co-coordinators Patrick Toney and Sean Spencer have never worked together, but they need to very quickly craft a lot more disruption than Florida has produced of late.

With all that said, competing for an SEC East title might be enough for Billy Napier’s first year to be considered a success. Only a few of those “ifs” need to come true for that to happen, and it feels mildly attainable after going through hoops to make Florida look like national contenders

BetMGM gives Penn State basketball long shot title odds. So you’re saying there’s a chance?

The new era of basketball at Penn State still has a long way to go to being a national title contender.

Penn State basketball is in the early stages of ushering in a new era with head coach Micah Shrewsberry at the helm. Shrewsberry takes over a program that has appeared in the NCAA Basketball Tournament just twice since 2000, and nobody is expecting him to turn the Nittany Lions into a national title contender any time soon.

But that hasn’t stopped BetMGM from putting odds on the Nittany Lions winning it all next college basketball season. And as you probably already may be expecting, Penn State doesn’t exactly have the best odds to be cutting down the nets next season.

Penn State is listed at +15000 to win next season’s college basketball national championship.

Here’s how the rest of the Big Ten stacks up on the BetMGM board for next year’s national championship…
