A Wisconsin Badger earns All-Big Ten Special Teams honors

One Badger named to the All-Big Ten Special Teams squad

The Big Ten conference announced all-defense and special teams awards for first, second, and third team as well as honorable mentions, and one Wisconsin Badger made the cut on special teams.

The lone Badger named to the Big Ten Special Teams squad was kicker Nathaniel Vakos, who came to Wisconsin by way of Ohio University and had a solid year as the new starter. Vakos connected on 14 of his 17 field goal attempts and did not miss from less than 40 yards on the entire year.

He was one of Wisconsin’s most consistent players and earned a well-deserved honorable mention shout from the conference.

There is only one Big Ten kicker who has not missed a kick all year long, and he plays for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Nathaniel Vakos has been a remarkable addition for Wisconsin through four games of the year, and is a perfect 7-7 kicking field goals. He has a long of 49 yards on the year. Last year, Vakos was the starting kicker for Ohio University, and went 19-23 on field goals while going 48-49 on extra points.

The Badgers have been up and down at the kicker spot in recent years, and finally have stability and trust in a position that can win you close games.

After a perfect performance in Wisconsin’s 38-17 win over Purdue, kicker Nathaniel Vakos earned Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.

Vakos nailed all three of his field goals, including a 48-yard boot to help Wisconsin win their first Big Ten game of the year. The Badgers have officially found their answer at a position which has lacked consistency over the past few Wisconsin seasons.

Vakos is now 7-7 on field goal tries this season, with a long of 49. He has also not missed an extra point. Wisconsin will certainly rely on an improved kicking game as Big Ten play continues.
