Over the weekend the Seahawks worked out former Mississippi State linebacker Jett Johnson, according to a report by Aaron Wilson. Seattle has been showing heavy interest in the Bulldogs’ defensive front-seven from 2023 lately. The team also recently signed former Missisippi State defensive tackle Nathan Pickering.

Johnson (6-foot-2, 235 pounds) was a starter the last three seasons and he made an impact across the board. During that time he totaled four interceptions, six pass breakups, three forced fumbles, four fumbles recovered, eight sacks and 28.5 tackles for a loss. Here are the highlights.

If Johnson does wind up signing with Seattle , he would most likely wind up competing for a roster spot at the bottom of the depth chart along with fellow undrafted free agent linebackers like Devin Richardson from Washington State and Easton Gibbs out of Wyoming.

Those spots have now been filled thanks to a couple of signings of undrafted free agents.

The Seattle Seahawks had two spots open on their 90-man offseason roster coming out of rookie minicamp last weekend. Those spots have now been filled thanks to a couple of signings of undrafted free agents.

According to a report by Aaron Wilson, the Seahawks have signed former Missisippi State defensive tackle Nathan Pickering.

Pickering (6-foot-4, 310 pounds) played 48 games over the last five years for the Bulldogs. He totaled 123 tackles, including 23.5 for a loss. He also added 13 sacks.

Seattle is also signing former Washington State linebacker Devin Richardson, per Wilson.

Richardson (6-foot-3, 233 pounds) bounced around a bit, putting in three years at New Mexico State, two at Texas and one with the Cougars. All together he put up 155 tackles (seven for a loss), three sacks and four forced fumbles.

Previewing LSU’s Week 3 matchup against Mississippi State

Here’s a rundown of what Tiger fans can expect to see from Mississippi State on Saturday.

After a 1-1 start, LSU is set to begin conference play as Mississippi State heads to Tiger Stadium. LSU bounced back from the heartbreaking loss to Florida State with a 65-17 win over Southern, but the Bulldogs will be a tougher test than what the Tigers faced last week.

MSU last played in Tiger Stadium in the 2020 opener. As much as Tiger fans want to forget it, that game is burned into the memory of anyone that watched it. K.J. Costello threw for 623 yards against a Tiger defense that would have had trouble stopping a junior varsity high school team.

In 2021, LSU responded, heading to Starkville with a much better plan to defend the air raid. It still gave up 486 yards, but Mississippi State was inefficient and LSU led from start to finish.

Let’s take a look at how the Bulldogs shape up entering the 2022 contest.
