Nate Bargatze basically said Oklahoma is the SEC’s unfrosted Pop-Tart

Welcome to the SEC, Sooners fans. Vanderbilt is happy to have you.

Comedian Nate Bargatze is a self-described long-suffering Vanderbilt Commodores fan. And it’s really easy to believe him, since no college football fan would willingly admit (or chose) rooting for Vandy unless they were born into such misfortune.

The Commodores haven’t won the SEC in a century. The program’s all-time record is well below .500 (613-648-50). They haven’t won more than six games in a season in a decade. They’ve had twice as many head coaches (18) as bowl game appearances since 1944.

But the days of serving as the SEC’s laughingstock are over now, according to Bargatze, because the Oklahoma Sooners are joining the conference next year to take their place.

Bargatze was on ESPN’s College GameDay as the celebrity guest picker Saturday and anointed Oklahoma the new Vanderbilt while predicting an Oklahoma State win in Saturday’s Bedlam game.

Which brings up a fascinating hypothetical: Would you rather root for the SEC’s least relevant team — a program generally as appetizing as an unfrosted Pop-Tart — or cheer on a perennial contender in a lesser conference?

Either way, Bargatze might not be welcome in Norman, Oklahoma for awhile.

College GameDay reveals Alabama’s Week 10 guest picker

Week 10 College GameDay guest picker for Alabama vs. LSU is shocking

For the second time this season, ESPN and the College GameDay crew will be traveling to Tuscaloosa to watch Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide. The crew first visited in Week 2 when the Tide unfortunately lost to their future SEC foe the Texas Longhorns. This week, GameDay will be back as No. 8 Alabama hosts No. 14 LSU with a spot in the SEC Championship game on the line, likely against Georgia.

For the matchup against Texas GameDay brought on former Alabama quarterback and New York Jets legend Joe Namath. This week, the guest picker will be comedian Nate Bargatze who has appeared on both Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon’s shows and hosted “Saturday Night Live” recently as well.

While he is talented and has a very funny personality, fans are a bit curious as to why he is the guest picker. He attended neither Alabama nor LSU for college and was born in Tennessee, so he has no strong emotional ties either way.

The game against LSU will kick off at 6:45 p.m CT., so if you plan on going to GameDay make sure you figure out a way to take a nap or pace yourself before the start of the game! The Tide needs Bryant-Denny to be rocking under the lights in a massive revenge game.

Tortured Vanderbilt fan Nate Bargatze will be College Gameday’s guest picker at Alabama

Bargatze killed it on SNL. His reward will be fielding Vanderbilt questions from a belligerent Pat McAfee.

The odds that ESPN’s College Gameday devotes airtime Auburn – Vanderbilt game where the Commodores are 12.5-point home underdogs just went up. Recent Saturday Night Live host Nate Bargatze, arguably the most famous Commodore fan out there (who didn’t actually attend the prestigious Nashville school, but whatever, he isn’t Skip Bayless so it’s a win), will be the esteemed pregame show’s celebrity guest picker for Week 10.

The longtime standup has never been hotter, parlaying the success of his Netflix specials into a well-received SNL gig last week. Now he’ll be back on the clock this weekend, sharing a panel with Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and what’s sure to be a shirt-less Pat McAfee at some point in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Having Bargatze front and center will shine more light on Vanderbilt’s 2023 season which, oh no. Oh, no no no no no.

After a solid 5-7 campaign in 2022, head coach Clark Lea has taken a step backward in the midst of a 2-7 season that’s seen seven straight losses, all but one of which have come by at least 16 points. Even worse: the Commodores have done so while looking like absolute doofuses after exchanging their iconic Star V for a generic, failed crypto firm logo no one actually likes.

Fortunately, Bargatze has a built-in out when confronted with tough questions like “why does Lea appear to be running quarterback AJ Swann out of the program” and “wasn’t Lea supposed to be a defensive expert, what the hell happened?” It’s nearly winter, which means its time for Vanderbilt’s true powerhouse program to shine.

Ah yeah, that’s the stuff.

Anyway, Nate Bargatze, from Saturday Night Live to talking women’s bowling on College Gameday. Truly, living the dream.

Comedian Nate Bargatze’s new comedy special ‘Hello World’ is a nod to Tiger Woods

Why comedian Nate Bargatze’s new comedy special ‘Hello World’ is a nod to Tiger Woods.

The day before he made his professional debut at the 1996 Greater Milwaukee Open, Tiger Woods faced the media with a big smile.

“I guess hello world, huh,” said a 20-year-old Woods, who has since gone on to win 15 major championships as well as a record-tying 82 times on the PGA Tour to cement his legacy as one of the best to ever swing a club.

An avid golf fan, comedian Nate Bargatze used that famous introduction as the inspiration to his new comedy special, ‘Hello World.’

“I wanted a nice greeting,” Bargatze explained during his Tuesday appearance on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. “It’s also a nod to Tiger Woods.”

If you’re a stand-up comedy fan, Bargatze’s new special releases Jan. 31 on Prime Video or you can check him out on tour here.
