Alabama transfer offensive lineman commits to ACC program

The Alabama offensive lineman has made a decision.

The latest Alabama Crimson Tide transfer portal entrant to make a decision did so Tuesday afternoon, as offensive lineman Naquil Betrand announced his commitment to play for the Syracuse Orange in 2025.

Betrand was a former transfer from the Texas A&M Aggies last offseason to Alabama, but did not see much playing time in Tuscaloosa prior to entering the transfer portal earlier this month. The offensive lineman primarily served as a backup during his lone season at Alabama.

Taking a look at Alabama in the transfer portal as well, Betrand is now the sixth Crimson Tide player to announce a playing destination for 2025. Now committed to Syracuse as well, Betrand is the first Alabama transfer from this cycle now set to play for an ACC team in 2025.

Betrand was one-of-two Alabama offensive lineman in the transfer portal, joined by Miles McVay. McVay has yet to make a commitment decision.

Alabama OL Naquil Betrand to enter the transfer portal for second time

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s hopes of a national title this year ended Sunday after they were left out of the first-ever 12-team Playoff. While it’s disappointing, Kalen DeBoer and his staff will have learned much from their first year in the SEC and the importance of treating each game as the national title.

With the Tide’s only remaining game coming against Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl, the transfer portal will be lighting up in the coming days. So far, only a handful of players have announced their decision to leave including OL Naquil Betrand.

Betrand was a three-star recruit out of high school and signed with the Texas A&M Aggies but transferred to Alabama after just one year. At 6’6 and 320 pounds, Betrand will have several suitors in the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Alabama lands commitment from Texas A&M OL transfer Naquil Betrand

On Saturday afternoon, Texas A&M offensive line transfer Naquil Betrand announced that he was transferring to Alabama. He chose the Crimson Tide over Syracuse.

On Thursday, Alabama secured a commitment from USC cornerback transfer Domani Jackson. Two days later, Alabama has landed a commitment from Texas A&M offensive tackle transfer Naquil Betrand.

The Pennsylvania native spent one season in College Station. He did not play in any games for the Aggies during the 2023-2024 season.

Betrand was regarded as a three-star prospect coming out of Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He chose the Aggies over other programs like Auburn, Colorado, Kentucky, and Syracuse.

Originally, it was reported that Betrand would take an official visit to Syracuse. The following weekend he was scheduled to take an official visit to Alabama. Needless to say, those plans did not come to fruition.

Instead, Alabama is able to add depth and potential to a young, offensive line unit. Betrand will likely compete for the starting right tackle spot with starter JC Latham expected to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding Alabama football’s involvement in the NCAA transfer portal.

Former Aggies redshirt freshman offensive lineman Naquil Betrand will reportedly be remaining in the SEC but it won’t be at Kyle Field.

Former Texas A&M redshirt freshman offensive lineman Naquil Betrand will be remaining in the SEC but it won’t be for the Aggies.

According to a report from On3 Sports national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, Betrand is headed to Tuscaloosa in the NCAA Transfer Portal to play for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide at Alabama.

“I feel as though nobody develops players better than Bama,” Betrand told On3 Sports on Saturday. “The coaching and players they have is a great program and I’m glad to be a part of it. Coach Wolf has a lot of trust in me and I appreciate it and I get to get coached by Nick Saban, a true blessing. Now let’s go win this natty.”

In 2023, Betrand was a 3-star recruit coming out of Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Penn. He did not play a single snap for Texas A&M at Kyle Field or elsewhere this season. Therefore, the 6-foot-6, 360-pound prospect has four years of eligibility remaining.

Breaking: 2023 3-star OT and Aggie signee Naquil Betrand has enrolled at Texas A&M and is on the football roster

According to TexAgs recruiting analyst Jason Howell, 2023 OT Naquil Betrand has opted to enroll at Texas A&M, and has joined the football team.

Texas A&M is less than a full day removed from their 2023 season opener vs. New Mexico, drumming the Lobos 52-10 behind quarterback Conner Weigman’s five touchdowns, three of which were tossed to sophomore breakout wide receiver Noah Thomas.

During the game, some may have noticed that the 2023 three-star offensive lineman and Aggie signee Naquil Betrand was surprisingly standing on the sideline, more than a month after announcing that he would instead reclassify to the 2024 recruiting class and transfer to JP Collegiate in Matthews, North Carolina, for the 2023 football season to gain more on-field experience and sharpen his skills on the offensive line just more than a month ago on July 16.

On Sunday, TexAgs recruiting analyst Jason Howell confirmed that Betrand has, in fact, enrolled at Texas A&M and has joined the football roster for the rest of the 2023 season and beyond, further adding to Aggie’s offensive line depth after an impressive performance on Saturday night.

Betrand, according to 247Sports, is ranked as the 33rd offensive tackle and the 8th-ranked player in Pennsylvania; he committed to Texas A&M last August and signed with the program in December. Standing at 6-6 and 350 pounds, Betrand possesses the size, strength, and athleticism to thrive at the next level, though, like any player at his level, development is needed to see playing time down the line or even this season.

2023 3-star OT and Aggie signee Naquil Betrand will reportedly reclassify to the 2024 class, and take a post grad year at JP Collegiate

2023 3-star OT and Aggie signee Naquil Betrand has announced that he will reclassify to the 2024 class and take a post-grad year at JP Collegiate.

Some late-night news dropped on Sunday night concerning 2023 three-star offensive tackle Naquil Betrand, who has made the decision to reclassify to the 2024 recruiting cycle and will attend JP Collegiate in Matthews, North Carolina, for the 2023 football season to gain more on-field experience and sharpen his skills on the offensive line while hopefully increasing his recruiting ranking in the process.

Betrand, according to 247Sports, is ranked as the 33rd offensive tackle and the 8th-ranked player in Pennsylvania, committed to Texas A&M last August and signed with the program in December. Standing at 6-6 and 350 pounds, Betrand possesses the size, strength, and athleticism to thrive at the next level, though, like any player at his level, development is needed to see playing time down the line.

Concerning the 2023, Betrand’s absence puts a dent in their offensive tackle depth going into the year, one of the thinnest position groups on the roster. Jimbo Fisher and his staff will continue communications regarding his future with the program. Good luck, Naquil!

2023 Offensive tackle Naquil Betrand commits to Texas A&M

2023 Offensive tackle Naquil Betrand commits to Texas A&M!

Whoop! Texas A&M has landed their 10th recruit and third offensive line prospect in their 2023 recruiting cycle, this time receiving a commitment from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native and 3-Star offensive tackle prospect, Naquil Betrand. He is currently ranked as the 78th offensive tackle prospect in the country, and the 18th-ranked player in Pennsylvania. Betrand chose the Aggies over Georgia, Syracuse, Auburn, Kentucky, and Penn State.

Naquil Betrand’s commitment to the Aggies has been in the making for the last couple of weeks, culminating in his visit during the recruiting pool party on Saturday, July 30th. As a former commit to Colorado, Betrand de-committed on July 4th, while previously taking an unofficial visit to Texas A&M on April 7th, a day before they offered him on April 8th. With the past success Jimbo Fisher has had in the Pennsylvania area in the last two recruiting classes, Betrand’s commitment shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as the program recently signed current starting defensive back Tyreek Chappell, and defensive lineman Elijah Jeudy in the 2021 class, and defensive end Enai White in the 2022 class.

In a brief scouting report, I analyzed Betrand’s skillset and ability on the field:

Standing at 6-7, 310lbs, Betrand has a wide base while displaying impressive footwork and quickness in run blocking, and shows his natural athleticism while consistently getting to the second level of the defense. In pass protection, he shows great balance, is quick out of his stance, and displays adequate hand strength and positioning while utilizing his length against smaller pass rushers.

After adding Naquil Betrand to an already immensely talented offensive line group for 2023, the overall class ranking has officially risen to 30th overall, according to 247Sports. Overall, the Aggies coaching staff and especially offensive line coach Steve Addazio have got to be grinning from ear to ear after this news. Gig ‘Em!

Auburn OL target set to commit later this month

Auburn Football hopes to receive good news in late July in the form of a commitment from three-star OL, Naquil Betrand.

Auburn is in the running to land a three-star offensive lineman for the 2023 recruiting cycle from Maryland.

[autotag]Naquil Betrand[/autotag] recently listed Auburn in his top-6 choices, joining Kentucky, Georgia, Texas A&M, Syracuse, and Penn State. Friday, Betrand revealed that he will be committing to a program on July 30.

Betrand re-opened his commitment after de-committing from Colorado on July 4. Auburn offered Betrand on July 1, two weeks later he took his official visit to the Plains. After his visit to Auburn, Betrand told Auburn Live that Auburn had a “really good chance to land him.”

Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover recently wrote that the need to land a couple of linemen is imperative. If Auburn were to land Betrand, it would go a long way into filling that need.

Betrand is a three-star offensive lineman from St. Francis Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. He is listed as the No. 16 prospect from the state of Maryland for the class of 2023, and the No. 78 offensive tackle in the nation.
