Colorado safety Myles Slusher to reportedly enter transfer portal

Safety Myles Slusher is looking to transfer

As reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Monday evening, Colorado football safety Myles Slusher plans to enter the transfer portal once the spring window opens on April 15.

Slusher, a former Arkansas Razorback, entered the portal last offseason and initially committed to Louisville before flipping to Colorado in January 2023.

Beset by injuries, the 6-foot, 195-pound junior defensive back played in only four games last fall, including a start in the Buffs’ season opener at TCU. He finished the year with 17 total tackles, one sack and a pass breakup.

At Arkansas, Slusher produced 93 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions in 23 games played across three seasons.

Other Colorado defensive backs who’ve entered the portal this offseason include Jahquez Robinson and Kyndrich Breedlove, who recently joined Ryan Walters’ Purdue Boilermakers.

Slusher will enter the portal with two years of college eligibility remaining.

Top performers from Colorado’s gut-wrenching loss to Stanford

These five #cubuffs had big games in an otherwise disappointing night at Folsom

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes football team came up on the wrong side of history on Friday night with a 46-43 double-overtime loss to the Stanford Cardinal at Folsom Field.

After leading 29-0 at halftime, the Buffs blew the lead in the second half and dropped to 4-3 on the season, including 1-3 in Pac-12 play.

Despite the historic collapse, Colorado had several players step up and play well, at least in the first half.

With Coach Prime and the Buffs doing some deep soul-searching, let’s look at some of Colorado’s top performers from Friday night’s disappointing loss to the Stanford Cardinal:

Myles Slusher returns to practice for CU Buffs

Week 1 starter Myles Slusher is back practicing for the #cubuffs

Defensive back Myles Slusher appears close to returning from an injury he sustained during Colorado’s season opener against TCU. As revealed by Reach The People Media, the Arkansas transfer was an active participant in the Buffs’ practice on Sunday.

Following that Week 1 game, head coach Deion Sanders revealed that Slusher was “banged up” and may require minor surgery.

Slusher started at nickel against TCU and recorded six total tackles, one of which came on a fourth-down play in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately for the Buffs, Reach The People Media also released footage of right tackle Savion Washington wearing a walking boot. He was taken out of Saturday’s loss to USC with an apparent leg injury and replaced by Reggie Young.

It’s currently unknown whether Slusher will return to action this weekend at Arizona State, but seeing him back at practice is a great sign for Colorado’s beaten-up secondary.

Banged up Myles Slusher expected to miss Colorado’s home opener

Per Deion Sanders, Myles Slusher is “banged up” and won’t play against Nebraska

Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders revealed on Tuesday that one of his top defensive players will miss this weekend’s home opener against Nebraska.

Myles Slusher, who had six solo tackles in CU’s win over TCU on Saturday, is banged up and will be out for at least this Week 2 matchup, per Sanders. Coach Prime didn’t comment on the exact nature of the injury, but he mentioned that a minor surgery might be in Slusher’s best interest.

Slusher, an Arkansas transfer, started in Week 1 at Colorado’s star position, which is essentially a hybrid linebacker/defensive back.

“Slush is banged up,” Sanders told the media during his weekly press conference on Tuesday. “I don’t think he’s going to play this week. He’s banged up. I want to do what’s best for him right now instead of what’s best for us right now. I don’t want him to continue with this. If he has to get a minor surgery, let’s go get it right now so you can be ready for the run, because we’re going to make a run.”

In what turned out to be TCU’s final offensive drive, Slusher made one of Colorado’s many clutch defensive plays when he tackled TCU tight end Jared Wiley short of the line to gain on a fourth-and-9.

PHOTOS: New CU Buffs safety Myles Slusher’s Arkansas highlights

Take a photographic look at what the #cubuffs are getting in safety Myles Slusher

While it’s currently unclear how Colorado’s depth chart will look heading into the season opener, I’m going to buy some early stock in Myles Slusher.

Yes, the former Arkansas safety will have to prove himself over Trevor Woods, Cam’Ron Silmon and Shilo Sanders, but Slusher owns both experience and success at the Power Five level.

During his three seasons with the Razorbacks, the former four-star prospect appeared in 23 games with 15 starts, 93 total tackles, seven pass deflections and two interceptions. Plus, he showed an ability to play behind the line of scrimmage with nine TFLs and 2.5 sacks — not bad for a defensive back

Enjoy a photographic look at Slusher’s time at Arkansas:

Arkansas defensive back Myles Slusher officially enters transfer portal

Myles Slusher left the team before the Missouri game and has officially declared for the transfer portal.

Two days after Arkansas defensive back Myles Slusher was officially no longer with the Razorbacks program, he is bound for the transfer portal.

Slusher, who started six games for Arkansas at nickel this season, did not make the trip to Missouri for the Razorbacks’ final game of the season. Arkansas staff members said 30 minutes before kickoff that Slusher had quit the team. Slusher denied quitting via Twitter before deleting the tweet.

Both he and Arkansas understood he would no longer be with the program going forward, either way, and on Sunday afternoon, Slusher took back to social media to announce his entering the portal.

Slusher was arrested with teammate Anthony Brown earlier in November after an altercation with police following the team’s loss to Liberty. Police body-cam footage showed Brown being violently moved from the street where he and others were gathered around 2 a.m. Slusher allegedly made an effort to help Brown and was arrested, as well.

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman announced a one-game suspension for both players the two days later. Slusher returned for the Razorbacks’ penultimate game against Ole Miss, but Pittman said the day after the junior told him he would no longer be with the team.

Slusher is the sixth player to enter the portal since August. Others are expected to announce before January.

Opinion: Myles Slusher owes Arkansas, you, nothing

No one but Myles Slusher knows why he’s no longer on the Arkansas football team. Good for him.

Myles Slusher owes Arkansas nothing.

He isn’t from Arkansas. And even if he, were state borders are abritrary.

Myles Slusher owes coaches nothing.

He can stop “working for his bosses” the same way you can. No one expects you to stay if you don’t like where you are for whatever reason.

Myles Slusher owes teammates nothing.

He has countless friends on the Arkansas football team, friends who mean more than any of us (or any of you) to him. If your automatic assumption is that he didn’t talk to them about what he was doing, that says more about you than them.

Myles Slusher owes the university nothing.

He chose Arkansas as much as Arkansas chose him. The school itself didn’t give him anything he wouldn’t have received at another place of higher learning.

Myles Slusher owes fans nothing.

He played football because he likes football. He doesn’t play football for fans.

Myles Slusher owes you nothing.

Myles Slusher is a grown man who can make his own decisions for any reason – any reason – he wants to.

Twitter reacts: Myles Slusher speculation rampant ahead of Arkansas-Missouri

Arkansas probably should have made statement on Slusher sooner than 30 minutes before kickoff.

Arkansas and Missouri were set to go in the final game of the regular season Friday afternoon from Columbia, but more focus seemed to be on the status of one particular Hogs player than the game itself.

Arkansas sports information personnel confirmed about 30 minutes before kickoff that Myles Slusher had quit. Slusher tweeted shortly thereafter that “quit” was an inaccurate word.

In the meantime, social media did what social media does. Speculatation ran rampant.

The Razorbacks clinched bowl eligibility with a victory over Ole Miss last week and the Battle Line Rivalry has never exactly taken off as such. So most of the Twittersphere was wondering the status of Arkansas’ starting nickel.

Slusher, or someone using his account, posted on Instagram on Thursday with a dateline from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Arkansas team was supposed to be in Columbia at the same time the IG post was made. On Friday, someone using Slusher’s Twitter account tweeted about two hours before kickoff.

Slusher missed Arkansas’ game two weeks ago against LSU as he served a one-game suspension following an arrest in early November. He returned for the Ole Miss game last week and no update was given about his status on the team – suspension, injury or otherwise – during Missouri game week.

Fans made a meal of the speculation beforehand.

Myles Slusher quits Arkansas football team ahead of Mizzou game

Arkansas starting nickel Myles Slusher quit the the team sometime between last week’s Ole Miss and Thursday.

Arkansas defensive back Myles Slusher was not in uniform pre-game ahead of the Hogs’ final game of the season Friday at Missouri.

Arkansas communications staffers confirmed Slusher had quit the team.

Slusher, the team’s starting nickel, posted from Instagram on Thursday with a dateline in Oklahoma. Slusher is from Broken Arrow. Arkansas was set to fly out to Columbia earlier Thursday. On Friday, about two hours before kickoff, someone controlling Slusher’s Twitter account was tweeting, as well, fueling online speculation about his status.

Slusher, along with teammate Anthony Brown, was initially suspended for one game by coach Sam Pittman following an arrest for disorderly conduct on the weekend of November 5 after the team’s loss to Liberty.

Police body-cam footage made public last week suggested officers ignored other civilians who were participating in the same activities that allegedly led to one of the officers grabbing Brown.

Slusher played in six games for the Razorbacks this season with 28 tackles, two sacks and five tackles for-loss.

Rocket Sanders, KJ Jefferson and more headline Arkansas’ Players of the Game vs. Ole Miss

There were plenty of worthy choices for Players of the Game following Arkansas’ 42-27 upset of Ole Miss. Here’s who the Razorbacks Wire staff selected this week.

Arkansas played their best game of the season on both sides of the ball in their upset win over No. 14 Ole Miss on Saturday.

Traditional upset victories usually come down to the wire and require a last-minute field goal or touchdown to seal the deal. However, none of that was necessary Saturday night as Arkansas flat-out whipped the Rebels, up 42-6 at one point in the 3rd quarter.

The winning effort on offense was once again led by the dynamic backfield duo of KJ Jefferson and Raheim “Rocket” Sanders. The two combined for 447 of Arkansas’ 507 total yards of offense and were responsible for three touchdowns each.

On the other side of the ball, it was a complete team effort from the Arkansas defense. Ole Miss’ high-powered offense was able to move the ball, but once they were in the red zone the Hog defense held time and time again.

After such a complete team performance on both sides of the ball, the Razorbacks Wire staff had plenty of players to choose from for their Players of the Game, but ultimately decided on five worthy Hogs.

Here’s more on our selections and details on why they were selected.
