Rick Sanchez blasts through the competition in latest MultiVersus trailer

The latest playable character in MultiVersus is everyone’s favorite bloated scientist.

One of this year’s break-out gaming hits is unquestionably MultiVersus – the wild brawler where Bugs Bunny can suplex Batman. Now, after many weeks of teasing, Rick Sanchez of Rick and Morty fame is finally getting in on the action.

On Tuesday, Rick Sanchez was released as a playable character in MultiVersus. Finally, the character’s grandson Morty won’t be going at this all alone. Rick seemingly excels at ranged battles like other Mage types, bringing loads of wacky scientific inventions into the fray. Rockets, lasers, portal guns — Rick has got it all.

Check out the Rick Sanchez gameplay trailer for MultiVersus below. There’s a “wubba lubba dub dub” joke somewhere in here, but I don’t watch the show, so I can’t help you in that regard.

The roster for Multiversus is still growing in the coming months too. As of right now, we know Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins will join the roster later on, though there’s no firm release date for either character yet. Many fans speculate that both will arrive before years’ end, though.

Anyone new to Multiversus should read our character tier list and upcoming roster additions breakdown. The game recently passed 20 million players across all platforms, so it’s likely here to stay.

MultiVersus season 1 has been delayed

The wildly popular Smash Brothers-like from Warner Bros. isn’t coming out when everyone thought.

One of the stand-out hits of this year has been MultiVersus. Somewhat unexpectedly, too, since there wasn’t much excitement before the open beta. Sadly, its full launch is still a ways away.

On Thursday, developer Player First Games announced that the first season of MultiVersus has been delayed to an unspecified date.

“We know this might be disappointing for some and want to assure our Community that we are dedicated to delivering new and exciting content that delights players,” Player First Games said on Twitter. “We’ll let you know the timing as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience & enthusiasm and look forward to unveiling Season 1 very soon!”

Unfortunately, this delay includes the release of Morty, from Rick and Morty, as a playable character. There are already loads of characters, but still!

The open beta for MultiVersus is regularly cracking the top 20 most-played titles on Steam. According to SteamCharts, more than 115,000 people were online concurrently in the last 24 hours. The beta period will last until Aug. 9, 2022, and is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Warner Bros is making a Smash-style fighter where Gandalf can beat up Batman

According to reports, Warner Bros is once again bringing its worlds together – this time for a Super Smash Bros-style fighting game.

According to reports, Warner Bros is once again bringing its worlds together – this time for a Super Smash Bros-style fighting game. The rumor began on Reddit and has since been confirmed by GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb, who has his grubby mitts all over everything.

The only thing Grubb debunked was the claim that the game was in development by NetherRealm, the studio most famous for the Mortal Kombat series. It appears as if the rest of the report is accurate at the time of writing.

According to the leaker, the game is called Multiverse, and it sees characters from across Warner Bros’ IP library battling against each other.

Here’s a list of the characters that are apparently featured, presumably with more to come when we get the official announcement:

  • Shaggy (Scooby-Doo)
  • Gandalf (Lord of the Rings)
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Batman
  • Fred Flinstone
  • Mad Max
  • Johnny Bravo

Multiverse was allegedly born from a meme where Shaggy takes his “Ultra Instinct” form, transforming into an anime-style fighter with a flaming aura. While it sounds absurd, the meme appeared in the opening title of Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, an animated movie from the publisher (thanks, VGC).

This also wouldn’t be the first time Warner Bros has experimented with mixing its worlds together. Lego Dimensions was built around this concept and saw Batman enter the worlds of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Elsewhere, there’s Space Jam: A New Legacy, which takes place inside a Warner Bros server where its characters exist and intermingle.
