Michigan State basketball has swept their in-state rivals Michigan.

The Spartans used a stifling defensive performance in the second half to knock off the Wolverines, 73-63, from the Crisler Center. Michigan State ended the game holding Michigan scoreless for the final seven minutes to pick up the victory.

Michigan State was led offensively by Tyson Walker and Malik Hall in the win. Walker finished with 19 points, while Hall had 18 points.

For the first time since 2019, Michigan State basketball has won in Ann Arbor.

The Spartans used stifling defense in the eight minutes of the game to knock off rival Michigan at Crisler Center, 73-63. The win on Saturday night completed the season series sweep of Michigan for the Spartans.

Michigan State held the Wolverines scoreless in the final seven minutes of the game to earn the impressive win over Michigan. With the win, Michigan State improves to 17-9 overall and 9-6 in Big Ten play.

The first half consisted of runs from both teams, with the Spartans building a lead as large as nine points. However, the Wolverines responded to that deficit with a 15-4 run to regain the lead. Michigan State would, however, carry a 39-37 lead into the break.

Michigan State fell behind in the second half by as many as five points, but from that point on the Spartans locked down Michigan for the victory.

The Spartans were led offensively by Tyson Walker and Malik Hall in the win. Walker had 19 points and Hall had 18 points.

Michigan State will return to the court on Tuesday in a home matchup against Iowa. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The Spartans handled the Wolverines in their first matchup in January, and Michigan State will now look for its first win at Crisler Center since 2019. Michigan State comes into this matchup on a two-game winning streak and holds a 16-9 overall record and 8-6 mark in conference play.

Well, basketball season starts next week.

Michigan State was embarrassed by their in-state rival on Saturday, losing 49-0 against Michigan at Spartan Stadium. This was the largest margin of victory for either team in the rivalry since 1947.

Michigan State drops to 2-5 with the loss and has yet to win a game since Mel Tucker was suspended and then fired. Michigan State has lost five straight games and there really is not much to be excited about with the Spartans’ football program after yet another terrible Saturday of football.

It was ugly from the opening whistle

Michigan State was dominated by their in-state rival Michigan on Saturday, 49-0, losing for a second straight year to the Wolverines. The 49-point loss to the Wolverines was the worst in the rivalry since 1947.

The Wolverines scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions and four of their six first half drives to build a 28-0 lead at the break. Michigan State had only three first downs to 19 for the Wolverines in the first half.

Things didn’t get much better for the Spartans in the second half, throwing a 72-yard pick-six on their opening drive to put the final nail in their coffin. Michigan star quarterback J.J. McCarthy would throw one more touchdown to finish with a career-high four touchdown passes before getting pulled midway through the third quarter.

Michigan State was out gained  477 to 190 yards in the loss. Michigan State also committed a pair of turnovers to zero for the Wolverines

Michigan State will return to the field next Saturday in a road game at Minnesota. Kickoff between the Spartans and Golden Gophers is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
