Former Spartan Joey Hauser signs two-way contract with Utah Jazz

One of Michigan State basketball’s top players from last year has signed with the Utah Jazz

One of Michigan State basketball’s top players from last year has signed with the Utah Jazz.

Joey Hauser has signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz. The organization officially announced the move on Monday.

In the NBA, a “two-way contract” allows developing players to simultaneously be rostered on an NBA team and its G League affiliate. Each NBA team can have two players on this type of contract.

Hauser averaged 14.4 points, 7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game last year for the Spartans. He started all 34 games for Michigan State.

Joey Hauser confirms he’s done at MSU, Tyson Walker implies he may be returning

Joey Hauser is done at MSU but could Tyson Walker be returning for another season as a Spartan?

Forward Joey Hauser is officially done at Michigan State.

Hauser announced via Instagram on Friday that he’s done at Michigan State and will be moving on. This should come as no surprise. Hauser suggested weeks ago that he wouldn’t return for another season.

On Hauser’s post, though, was an interesting reply from Spartans star guard Tyson Walker. He responded by asking Hauser who is he going to sit next to on the team plane now — suggesting he will be running it back next year with Michigan State.

Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press has the post below:

If Walker were to come back, it would mean Michigan State will most likely return it’s entire starting backcourt, which was considered one of the best in the Big Ten this year. That would be huge for the Spartans, so we will see if that comes true or not soon enough.

MSU forward Joey Hauser says unlikely he’ll return for another season

Joey Hauser leaves door open for a possible return to MSU but it sounds like he’ll be done after this year

Could Joey Hauser return for another season at Michigan State in 2023-24? He technically can but he doesn’t expect to be back for the Spartans next year.

Hauser was asked about his future at Michigan State beyond this year earlier this week, and he said it’s unlikely he’ll be back for another season in the green-and-white. See below what Chris Solari of The Detroit Free Press tweeted on Hauser’s future:

Hauser has the ability to return for one final season due to the extra COVID year. It, however, would create a potential log jam on the roster and available scholarships should he return.

Izzo: Joey Hauser still undecided on returning to MSU for another year

Michigan State basketball forward Joey Hauser is still undecided on whether or not he’ll return for another season in the green-and-white

Michigan State basketball forward Joey Hauser is still undecided on whether or not he’ll return for another season in the green-and-white.

Head coach Tom Izzo was on The Game 730AM WVFN on Wednesday and revealed the news that Hauser is still making a decision about returning to Michigan State or not. Hauser is the final of three seniors to make their decision on whether or not to take the extra COVID year of eligibility, with Marcus Bingham and Gabe Brown both moving on from the program.

Hauser started 29 of the Spartans’ 35 games this past season, and averaged 7.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Hauser truly came on strong late in the year, with a career-high 27-point performance against Davidson in the Spartans’ NCAA Tournament first round victory.

Should Hauser elect to return for another season, he’ll be one of the team’s leading returning scorers.
