Justin Herbert makes history in ‘incredible performance’ vs. Patriots

Justin Herbert is among the greats.

Justin Herbert has written his name in the history books quite a few times since coming into the league in 2020, and he continued to do so on Saturday in the Chargers’ win over the Patriots.

Herbert surpassed Peyton Manning for the most passing yards in any player’s first five seasons in NFL history. Manning’s previous record was 20,618. Herbert is now up to 20,747.

Additionally, Herbert, Manning, and Russell Wilson are the only quarterbacks with 3,000+ passing yards and 20+ touchdowns in each of their first five seasons.

Herbert completed 26-of-38 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns as he engineered an offense that scored a season-high in points. The former Oregon product threw three TD passes for the first time this season.

Jim Harbaugh heaped high praise on his quarterback, citing his performance as “incredible.”

“I can’t think of one play or one throw or one check or one ball placed where it shouldn’t have been,” Harbaugh said after the game. “Just an incredible performance by an incredible player.”

Herbert will make his second playoff appearance and look to pick up his first postseason win.

Justin Herbert on pace to break impressive record

Justin Herbert is on pace to break this record that’s currently held by Peyton Manning.

Justin Herbert is on pace to accomplish an outstanding feat.

Herbert needs 631 more passing yards to surpass the record for the most passing yards in a player’s first five seasons.

Currently held by Peyton Manning (20,617), Herbert must average 158 yards per game over the next four weeks to surpass the record.

Herbert surpassed Jameis Winston for the second-most passing yards in a player’s first five NFL seasons in the first half of the Chargers’ Week 13 win over the Falcons.

Herbert has had one of the least productive passing seasons, averaging just 212.6 yards per game. But he’s still been as sharp as ever and has done a good job taking care of the football, having only thrown one interception.
