UFC Fight Night 243 bonuses: KO of the Year contender a no-doubter for $50,000

The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday’s card in Paris, including a vicious KO of the Year contender by Fares Ziam.

The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday’s card in France, including a knockout that’s likely to be very high on everyone’s KO of the Year list.

After UFC Fight Night 243, four fighters picked up an extra $50,000 for their performances at Accor Arena in Paris. Check out the winners below.

Performance of the Night: Chris Duncan def. Bolaji Oki

Chris Duncan def. Bolaji Oki via technical submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1, 3:34

Starting off the night in France with an impressive finish was [autotag]Chris Duncan[/autotag]. To his surprise, Duncan didn’t even realize he finished Bolaji Oki until he wasn’t responding. Duncan (12-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) locked up a guillotine choke from the bottom, and released the hold, looking to punch. However, Oki (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was asleep. Duncan then motioned to the referee that his opponent was in la-la land, and the fight was over. Duncan earns the first bonus of his UFC career, one that quite literally fell in his lap.

Performance of the Night: Fares Ziam def. Matt Frevola

Fares Ziam def. Matt Frevola via knockout (knee) – Round 3, 2:59

The UFC might as well have just handed [autotag]Fares Ziam[/autotag] his bonus check as he exited the octagon. His knockout of Matt Frevola is a sure-fire Knockout of the Year contender. Ziam (16-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC) was picking apart Frevola (11-5-1 MMA, 5-5-1 UFC) in the first two rounds of the fight, but in the third, he blasted Frevola with a vicious knee on the exit of a clinch. Frevola went unconscious on contact, and a couple of follow-up punches got there before the referee could rush in. Ziam’s first UFC bonus is certainly one to remember.

Performance of the Night: Morgan Charriere def. Gabriel Miranda

Morgan Charriere def. Gabriel Miranda via knockout (punch) – Round 2, 0:27

Keeping the French crowd hyped up with another vicious finish was [autotag]Moragn Charriere[/autotag]. Gabriel Miranda found himself attempting to escape a clinch from Charriere, but didn’t expect a crushing punch to meet him as he turned back into his opponent. Charriere’s left hand sent Miranda to the canvas, and the celebration was on.

That’s three consecutive fights for “The Last Pirate” earning a $50,000 bonus. Charriere is pure excitement.

Performance of the Night: Bryan Battle def. Kevin Jousset

Bryan Battle def. Kevin Jousset via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 3:47

While the French crowd was amped with back-to-back bonus-earning finishes before his fight, [autotag]Bryan Battle[/autotag] flipped the cheers to boos. Battle spoiled the party for France’s Kevin Jousset, boxing him up for a nasty second-round TKO finish. He then got on the mic and delivered one of the most emphatic heel promos on the mic, urging the French crowd to keep booing him. Battle will fly back to the States with an extra $50,000, the second bonus of his UFC career.

UFC Fight Night 243 video: Morgan Charriere crumples Gabriel Miranda with big left hook

Morgan Charriere knocked out Gabriel Miranda at UFC Paris and then led the crowd in a singing of the national anthem of France.

Few men are more popular in Accor Arena than “The Last Pirate.”

At UFC Fight Night 243 on Saturday in Paris, [autotag]Morgan Charriere[/autotag] didn’t disappoint the French crowd when he knocked out [autotag]Gabriel Miranda[/autotag] at 0:27 mark of Round 2 in their featherweight matchup.

Charriere (20-10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) found Miranda (17-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) out of position with his guard down after a spinning attempt and perfectly placed a big left hook right on the Brazilian’s jaw. After Miranda fell, Charriere pounced and the fight was stopped nearly immediately, which sent the arena into pandemonium (via X):

After the win, Charriere led the raucous Paris crowd in a signing of “La Marseillaise,” the national anthem of France.

The victory returned Charriere into the win column after a split decision loss to Chepe Mariscal in April. For Miranda, the loss comes after his first UFC win, a submission over Shane Young in September 2023.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares Ziam prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 243

Matt Frevola and Fares Ziam meet in a fun lightweight bout that opens the UFC Paris main card at Accor Arena.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares Ziam UFC Paris preview

Frevola (11-4-1 MMA, 5-4-1 UFC) enters his first fight since headliner Benoit Saint Denis snapped his three-fight winning streak. Prior to the setback, Frevola stopped three straight opponents. Genaro Valdez, Ottman Azaitar and Drew Dober failed to make it out of the first round against “The Steamrolla.” … Ziam (15-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) will look to keep his momentum going as a winner of three straight fights. The Frenchman picked up consecutive decision wins over Michal Figlak, Jai Herbert and Claudio Puelles.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares ZiamUFC Paris expert pick, prediction

Kicking off the main card is a proper action fight at 155 pounds between Ziam and Frevola.

For those familiar with my card formatting critiques, there’s nothing I love more than action-fighting lightweights to kick off the festivities on the main broadcast.

Although Ziam can be stereotyped as more of a ‘point-fighting’ competitor, I believe that Frevola’s aggression will bring out the best in the Frenchman. That said, I find myself leaning toward the American in this spot.

Unless Ziam can turn himself into a one-punch knockout artist, I suspect that Frevola will eventually be able to close in on the French fighter and take this fight to the floor (where the biggest on-paper disparity exists).

It’s hard to bet against Ray Longo fighters, so I’ll take “The Steamrolla” to snatch up a submission by Round 2.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares ZiamUFC Paris odds

Despite the oddsmakers opening the American as the favorite, public money has come in on the French fighter, listing Ziam -132 and Frevola +108 via FanDuel.

Matt Frevola vs. Fares ZiamUFC Paris start time, how to watch

Frevola and Ziam are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 3:05 p.m. ET (9:05 p.m. locally in Paris). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 243

Morgan Charriere and Gabriel Miranda are a pair of exciting featherweights hunting for their second promotional win at UFC Paris.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda UFC Paris preview

Charriere (19-10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) saw a four-fight winning streak come to an end in April in a Fight of the Night split decision loss to Chepe Mariscal. The France-born fighter has taken home bonuses in both of his UFC appearances. In his debut, he recorded a Performance of the Night-worthy first-round finish of Manolo Zecchini. … Miranda (17-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC), like his opponent, is 1-1 in the UFC, but with flipped results. The Brazilian lost his debut to the headliner of this event, Benoit Sant Denis. In his second appearance, Miranda rebounded beautifully with a first-round submission of Shane Young at UFC 293 last September.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda UFC Paris expert pick, prediction

Serving as an action-filled offering at featherweight is a fun fight between Charriere and Miranda.

Even though Charriere came up short in a highly competitive fight with Chepe Mariscal earlier this year, I’m happy to see the UFC still giving him a showcase spot here. That said, Miranda is incredibly dangerous – particularly early on in fights.

Charriere does have the propensity to find himself in close fights, but I suspect that Miranda’s marauding style brings out the best in “The Last Pirate.”

So long as Charriere can survive the early storm from the Brazilian, then I believe he’ll be able to get Miranda out of there in the mid-to-late rounds.

I’ll officially pick Charriere to force a stoppage via strikes in Round 2.

Morgan Charriere vs. Gabriel Miranda UFC Paris odds

The oddsmakers and the public heavily favor the French fighter, listing Charriere -750 and Miranda +490 via FanDuel.

Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC Fight Night 240: Charriere vs. Mariscal odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

UFC Fight Night 240: Charriere vs. Mariscal picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

We get a fight between 2 young prospects looking to climb the rungs of the UFC ladder.

The 28-year-old Charriere (-120) has shown off tremendous punching power, dropping Zecchini in the 1st round of his UFC debut, while picking up 3 straight finishes inside the distance.

Mariscal (+100) has won 2 fights at the UFC level since his debut, with mixed results. He, too, is a punching machine, and this is going to be an entertaining bout.

If you don’t want to pick a winner in this rather evenly matched fight, playing KO/TKO/DQ (+175) for the “How Fight Will End” prop might be your best bet. If either of these knockout artists wins via KO/TKO/DQ, you win.

Over/Under (O/U)

In addition, NO (+130): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a strong value at plus-money with 2 young fighters who have plenty of KO/TKO wins under their collective belts.

These fighters are likely to take the 1st 5 minutes to feel each other out. We should see the action pick up in Round 2, however, and we’re unlikely to see the judges get involved.

Morgan Charriere expresses ‘weird feelings’ of fighting at UFC Apex after debuting in front of 15,000 in France

UFC’s Morgan Charriere debuted in front of over 15,000 fans at home in France. His second fight will be in the virtually empty UFC Apex.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Morgan Charriere[/autotag] is torn about his first UFC fight on American soil.

In his second UFC fight, Charriere (19-9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will compete in the U.S. for the first time in his pro career, taking on Chepe Mariscal at UFC Fight Night 240 at the UFC Apex. The 28-year-old Frenchman had a debut to remember in September, recording a first-round finish in front of a lively home crowd.

Charriere knows it will be tough to top the full experience of his debut and the performance that he displayed, but he plans to continue hunting for exciting finishes and hopes to score another against Mariscal (15-6 MMA, 2-0 UFC).

“That’s really hard to top that,” Charriere told reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “I just try to really stay focused and I’m not trying to top my last performances. Like, ‘OK, this fight has been done, it was a really great performance.’ No, I’m just sticking to my plan, to my training. If the next fight, or so this fight, can get better – I don’t think so, because it’s really hard – it would be great. But otherwise, as long as I win the fight, it’s good for me. I’m just trying to win it in a great way, with a great finish. … It will be another great performance, but top the Paris performance? Really hard.”

Charriere could, in theory, match the outcome of what happens inside the cage. However, the atmosphere surrounding the octagon will be guaranteed to be different at the UFC Apex. The few hundred people watching will pale compared to a sold-out Accor Arena in Paris, France, with over 15,000 fans in September.

“I’ve thought about that, we’ve talked about this with my team, but I have a lot of experience,” Charriere said when asked about preparing for the different atmosphere. ” I’ve fought a lot in Cage Warriors during COVID, I had the world title during COVID, so I’m used to empty venues. It’s not the first time. I think I had maybe three fights in an empty venue with really small (amount of) people.

“… I know what will happen on Saturday with the atmosphere, but yeah, it will be weird because my last fight, it was in Paris, and it was a crazy crowd.”

Charriere’s mixed feelings about fighting at the UFC Apex match the sentiment of many of his peers on the roster. Fighting under the promotion’s big three letters is a good thing for most, regardless of the venue. However, some fighters want the energy and excitement of a full arena. Groans from fighters and fans about UFC Apex, which has hosted over than half of the promotion’s events since the COVID-19 pandemic, have been growing louder as of late.

“I’m excited, but you know, I love to fight in front of a crowd,” Charriere said. “So it’s like, I’m excited, but there’s this thing like – ahh, I’m in the Apex. There’s not so much people. So, it’s weird feelings. Like, I’m happy to be there, to be fighting for the UFC, to have all this stuff. To have been to the UFC PI was crazy, but I love crowds. I love to put on a show, so that’s what I will miss in this fight.”
