EvanMiya bracket simulation has Duke upset by Morehead State in first round

EvanMiya’s Wednesday NCAA Tournament simulation had Duke lose to a No. 14 seed in the opening round while a bitter rival cut down the nets.

College basketball analytics site EvanMiya started a series of daily bracket simulations this week ahead of the NCAA Tournament, and Duke fans won’t love the Wednesday edition.

In the most recent simulation from the site, the No. 3 seed Blue Devils get upset by Morehead State in the opening round.

What’s worse? The North Carolina Tar Heels end up beating Houston in the title game to cut down the nets.

Morehead State, an automatic qualifier after beating Little Rock to win the Ohio Valley Conference, is 109th in KenPom’s adjusted efficiency margin. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 23-8 record and a 14-4 mark against OVC opponents, but after their three-game run in the conference tournament, they’ve won 18 of their last 22 games.

The Eagles didn’t even continue their Cinderella run in the simulation, losing to St. John’s in the Second Round.

No other top-three seed lost in the opening round of the Wednesday simulation.

Kentucky baseball makes a big comeback to beat Morehead State

Kentucky baseball made an impressive comeback to beat Morehead State on Tuesday.

The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team began their season with an opening series sweep of USC Upstate. The pitching was solid throughout the three games, and the hitting was very good. After a few days off, they had a single game against Morehead State before heading to Texas for a series of games.

The Wildcats were expected to handle the Eagles, but the in-state rivals weren’t going down easily. Morehead St jumped out to a 5 – 1 lead, and Kentucky’s bats hadn’t gotten going. However, in the eighth inning, the Cats warmed up.

It began with a single from Emilien Pitre. Eli Small followed with another. After a couple of walks and a hit batter, Mitchell Daly added another hit before Ryan Nicholson doubled in three runs to put Kentucky ahead by a score of 9 – 5, which would be the final score.

The Kentucky pitching was solid once again. They gave up just three earned runs on the day, and closed out the game with three shutout innings.

The Wildcats will next be in action over the weekend at the Karbach Round Rock Classic in Round Rock, Texas. First up will be Washingon State on Friday.

Ref Teddy Valentine and Morehead State coach Preston Spradlin exchange butt slaps in this bizarre sequence

What a cheeky moment between Valentine and Spradlin!

Aside from the on-court drama, an NIT first-round matchup between Morehead State and Clemson gave us a hilarious sideline moment.

As the Eagles tried to upend the Tigers early on in the first half, head coach Preston Spradlin had an energetic conversation with official Teddy Valentine. Once he made his peace known, Spradlin gave Valentine a light slap on his butt. While Spradlin started to walk away, Valentine quickly returned the favor.

After what seemed like a delayed reaction, Spradlin turned around, gripped his butt, and grimaced in joking pain as if to say Valentine really walloped him.

All in all, an amusing moment between a coach and ref:

I mean, honestly: who among us hasn’t been surprised by the sheer velocity of an unfortunate butt slap?

Spradlin would take his lumps en route to a 68-64 Morehead State win.
