Former Colorado receiver chooses Arizona over Auburn

Montana Lemonious-Craig elects to stay out west after visiting Auburn last month.

Auburn football head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] has had plenty of success by gaining talent from the transfer portal this fall. However, one of his top targets has elected to keep his talents on the west coast.

[autotag]Montana Lemonious-Craig[/autotag], best known for having a spectacular day in Colorado‘s spring game last month, announced Saturday night that he will stay in the PAC-12 by transferring to Arizona. He chose the Wildcats over Auburn, Cal, and Michigan State.

Lemonious-Craig was part of Colorado’s mass exodus of transfers from Colorado, but his departure was a bit of a surprise. He caught three passes for 154 yards in Deion Sanders’ initial spring game in Boulder and declared for the transfer portal the very next day.

Soon after entering the portal, Lemonious-Craig paid a visit to the Plains. After his visit, Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live predicted that he would sign with the Tigers.

Despite Auburn not being able to land Lemonious-Craig, they have still added plenty of talent to the receiving corps by landing FIU’s [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag], Ohio State‘s [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag], and North Texas’ [autotag]Jyaire Shorter[/autotag].

Colorado transfer Montana Lemonious-Craig commits to Arizona

Montana Lemonious-Craig became the latest former Buff to find a new Pac-12 home

Nearly one month removed from his stellar spring game performance, Montana Lemonious-Craig made it official that he’ll be playing elsewhere in 2023.

The sophomore wide receiver was tied closely to Auburn, Michigan State and Penn State over the past few weeks, but he ultimately committed to Arizona on Saturday, joining Nikko Reed (Oregon), Carson Becker (Utah), Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State) and Na’im Rodman (Washington State) as other notable former Buffs to transfer within the Pac-12 this offseason.

In his three years at Colorado, Lemonious-Craig played in 23 games with 497 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He’ll be back in Boulder on Nov. 11 when his Wildcats face the Buffs.

Arizona is another Pac-12 program on the rise as the Cats bounced back from a 1-11 2021 season to finish 5-7 last fall.

Report: Colorado transfer WR Montana Lemonious-Craig on official visit to MSU

Could Michigan State football be once again tapping into the Colorado pipeline for an addition through the transfer portal?

Could Michigan State football be once again tapping into the Colorado pipeline for an addition through the transfer portal?

Former Colorado wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig is reportedly currently on an official visit to Michigan State. Justin Thind of 247Sports reported the notable transfer portal news.

Earlier this week, Michigan State landed a transfer portal commitment from a fellow Colorado Buffalo — defensive lineman Jalen Sami. The Spartans also officially lost leading returning receiver Keon Coleman this week when he committed to Florida State.

Lemonious-Craig appeared in 11 games for Colorado last year, recording 23 receptions for 359 yards and three touchdowns. He had a breakout performance in the nationally televised Colorado spring game earlier this year and shortly jumped into the transfer portal.

According to Thind, Penn State and Auburn are also “in pursuit” of Lemonious-Craig so he is clearly a big-time transfer portal target. This would be a great addition for Michigan State if they were to land a commitment from Lemonious-Craig.

Auburn becomes team to watch for Montana Lemonious-Craig’s next destination

Auburn is making a strong run to land the talented receiver formerly of Colorado.

Auburn has made a splash in the transfer portal this week.

The week started with former Appalachian State linebacker [autotag]Jalen McLeod[/autotag] signing with the Tigers and ended with the signing of two talented offensive skill players, Michigan State QB [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] and Ohio State WR [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag].

When the hand is good, sometimes it pays to keep playing. That is what Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is looking to do with former Colorado wide receiver [autotag]Montana Lemonious-Craig[/autotag], who Auburn has recently received a prediction to land.

On3’s Jeffrey Lee submitted a prediction for Auburn to sign Lemonious-Craig ($) this week after he paid a visit to the Plains during the weekend of April 29.

Lemonious-Craig does not have the resume of a seasoned veteran, as he caught just 34 passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns in three seasons at Colorado, but the potential to be a big-time receiver is there. He caught the attention of the college football world during Colorado’s spring game last month by catching two touchdown passes from Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

The possible addition of Lemonious-Craig would add to an already revamped receiver room, as Auburn has already signed [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag], [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag], and Caleb Burton from the transfer portal. Lemonious-Craig provides a big frame at 6-2, 190 pounds, and would add speed to the mix at receiver.

Top 10 uncommitted transfer portal players, per 247Sports

There are still several four-star transfers who’ve yet to commit

Now that the spring transfer portal window is closed, we should see plenty of commitments over the next few weeks throughout college football.

At Colorado, head coach Deion Sanders has already received pledges from Omarion Cooper (Florida State), Sav’ell Smalls (Washington), Tar’Varish Dawson (Auburn) and Jahquez Robinson (Alabama) in recent days. However, Coach Prime’s work is far from finished with about 20 open scholarship spots left to fill.

As of Wednesday, there are 12 four-star transfers, including Montana Lemonious-Craig and Jordyn Tyson, who are looking for a new home.

Below are the top 10 uncommitted transfer portal players, according to 247Sports:

BYU WR Kody Epps receives Auburn offer

Epps was second in receptions and touchdowns last season for BYU.

Earlier this spring, [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] shared that he was looking for an “alpha” in his wide receiver room. It appears as if he is looking for a couple of options to fit that role within the transfer portal.

Last weekend, Colorado‘s [autotag]Montana Lemonious-Craig[/autotag] and Ohio State‘s [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag] were in town for a visit, and it appears now that there is another target in the picture, BYU’s [autotag]Kody Epps[/autotag]. On3’s Pete Nakos is reporting that Auburn has extended an offer to Epps, joining Miami, Colorado, and Ole Miss to do so since he entered the transfer portal on April 30.

Epps was BYU’s second-leading receiver in both receptions (39) and touchdowns (6) last season. He was third in yards by reeling in 459 yards, trailing Puka Nacua and Keanu Hill respectively. He had 100-plus-yard games against Arkansas and Notre Dame last season. He also reeled in two touchdown passes against the Fighting Irish.

He enters the transfer portal after just one full season at BYU and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He reeled in five catches for 47 yards in 2020 but failed to record any stats in 2021.

As a high school product, he was a three-star product from the prestigious Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. The program has been known to produce talent such as Heisman Trophy Winner Matt Leinart and fellow USC quarterback, Matt Barkley. Epps was a teammate of former Alabama quarterback and recent top overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, Bryce Young, at Mater Dei. He was the state of California’s No. 68 overall prospect from the 2020 class, and the No. 123 receiver in the nation.

Take a look at several of Epps’ key highlights from his redshirt freshman season at BYU here:

Ohio State WR Caleb Burton blown away by his Auburn visit

Burton was the second wide receiver to visit campus last weekend, joining Colorado’s Montana Lemonious-Craig.

One of the positions that Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] hopes to enhance this offseason is wide receiver. He took a step in the right direction last weekend by bringing in two candidates for a visit.

Former Colorado playmaker [autotag]Montana Lemonious-Craig[/autotag] commenced the weekend by visiting campus on Saturday, with former Ohio State receiver [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag] stopping by on Sunday.

The latter says that he truly came away impressed with his visit.

“Personally, I didn’t think it was going to be this nice,” Burton said of Auburn’s Woltosz Football Performance Center. “I’ve never even heard about this facility or ever seen it and it’s really nice.”

While on campus, Burton took a tour and had the chance to sit down with wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag]. He tells Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that he gelled well with Davis, and was able to learn new things.

Burton was a highly-touted recruit out of Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas in the 2022 recruiting class. He was a four-star receiver according to 247Sports, and was the No. 22 overall prospect from the state of Texas for the cycle.

However, he has not had the chance to see the field at Ohio State and is looking to make a name for himself at a new place. Burton received an Auburn offer on April 22, 2020, a few months before ultimately committing to Ohio State.

Former Colorado WR Montana Lemonious-Craig visiting Auburn this weekend

A star performer in Colorado’s spring game just a week ago is now on the Plains for a visit.

Just one week after putting on an amazing display at Colorado‘s spring game, it appears that wide receiver [autotag]Montana Lemonious-Craig[/autotag] is heavily considering a new home in Auburn.

Auburn Undercover reported Saturday that Lemonious-Craig, who reeled in six passes for 168 yards in Colorado’s spring game last Saturday, is in town visiting Auburn just six days after entering the transfer portal.

Lemonious-Craig was Colorado’s leading receiver in terms of receptions, as he hauled in 23 catches for 359 yards and three touchdowns for the Buffaloes last season. New head coach Deion Sanders has taken his share of criticism, as over 50 players from last season’s roster at Colorado have entered the transfer portal. However, the departure of Lemonious-Craig appears to have caught several people off guard, including Jackson State transfer and son of Deion, Shedeur Sanders.

“MLC is the TP right now,” Sanders said in a recent video. “That’s foul.”

Lemonious-Craig is a 6-2, 210-pound receiver who signed with Colorado as a three-star receiver from Inglewood, California in the 2020 recruiting cycle. His presence could enhance Auburn’s receiving room which includes [autotag]Koy Moore[/autotag] and Cincinnati transfer [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag].

Check out some of Lemonious-Craig’s Colorado highlights below:

Montana Lemonious-Craig drawing plenty of interest in transfer portal

Former Buffs WR Montana Lemonious-Craig has picked up several notable offers since entering the portal

The Colorado Buffaloes have seen numerous players enter the transfer portal, but one of the biggest was wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig, who entered the portal following a huge performance in the spring game.

Now, he is drawing substantial interest in the portal and has had no issues picking up offers (h/t Dylan Callaghan-Croley of College Sports Wire):

The junior wide receiver has picked up offers from throughout the FBS including in no specific order; Tulane, UConn, USF, Liberty, Washington State, Arizona, Colorado State, Penn State, Oregon State, Auburn, Cincinnati, BYU, Mississippi State, California, San Diego State, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Purdue.

Lemonious-Craig had 23 receptions for 359 yards and three touchdowns last year for the Buffs, who had a disappointing quarterback carousel. With Shedeur Sanders in town, he was expected to become a key contributor, but he’s out of Boulder now.

He is from Inglewood, California, so San Diego State is an intriguing option. Playing for a bigger program such as Oregon, Penn State or Purdue is another.

One thing is clear: He should find a home pretty soon.

Colorado WR transfer Montana Lemonious-Craig becoming popular name in transfer portal

Colorado wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig is one of the hottest names in the transfer portal today.

Since entering the transfer portal shortly after Colorado’s spring game wide receiver transfer Montana Lemonious-Craig has become a very popular name in the transfer portal.

Lemonious-Craig saw time in 18 games over three seasons with Colorado, recording 34 receptions for 497 yards and five touchdowns. This past season, he had his best year with the program, with 23 receptions for 359 yards and three touchdowns,

It was looking like he was in for a breakout season this fall, being paired up with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. In Saturday’s spring game, Lemonious-Craig recorded three receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown. That performance made his portal entry on Sunday a shock to many.

The 6-foot-2 wide receiver is just one of nearly 20 Colorado players to enter the transfer portal since the Buffaloes’ spring game. Overall, nearly 50 players in total have left the program since Deion Sanders took over in December.

Originally a three-star athlete out of Inglewood, California, in the 2020 recruiting class, Lemonious-Craig committed to Colorado over notable offers from Arizona, Auburn, Boise State, and BYU as well as a myriad of additional Group of Five offers.

The California native will likely see more offers come his way in the upcoming days and weeks ahead as he continues to be one of the more sought-out transfer portal wide receivers.

Any NCAA football players who want to enter the transfer portal and be eligible for next season must do so by April 30 when the second offseason transfer portal window closes.
