UGA Wire reveals the top Georgia football wins of the decade

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

Of course, we listed nine other games in our rankings list, but everyone already knows what No. 1 is, right?

If you hadn’t already guessed it, it’s the 2017-18 Rose Bowl.

Surprise… Surprise…

But seriously… do we even need to say anything else? We’ll just attach the highlights clip as you imagine Sony Michel running into the California sunset on New Years Day, sending the Dawgs home to the championship game.

We can all forget what happened the week after and just pretend the season ended in Pasadena. Sound good?

What a game! At least Baker Mayfield and the Sooners were able to put up some points in this playoff game, however. The amount of twists and turns our hearts took that day will probably cost us a couple years in life, but honestly who cares,

I miss this day.

UGA Wire reveals its No. 2 Georgia football win of the decade

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

After all of the suspense in the last 8 games we revealed, you probably know what the final two are by now, but we will only currently reveal the second, just for fun.

Coming in at No. 2 on our list is the 2013 LSU game in Athens, with Aaron Murray, Justin Scott-Wesley and Michael Bennett leading the Dawgs to a come-from-behind 44-41 victory, in one of the best games you will ever see.

College Gameday came to town for this heavyweight clash, after Georgia’s massive win over South Carolina just a few weeks before. CBS broadcast the game in its traditional 3:30 pm afternoon slot and the Bulldog defense stood its ground, with the infamous theme music blasting into the postgame highlights on a perfect evening in Athens.

You might remember the ‘Letter to Larry’ that Georgia football broadcasting legend Loran Smith wrote for Larry Munson after this game. And you probably won’t forget former coach Mark Richt tearing up with Tracy Wolfson in his postgame interview.

Here are some highlights from that win of all wins in Athens:

My cup runneth over!

UGA Wire reveals it’s No. 3 Georgia football win of the decade

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

We have finally made it into our Top 3 and boy, do we have a treat for you. Up next in our countdown list is the 2017 SEC Championship win over Auburn, to unofficially christen Mercedes-Benz Stadium

D’Andre Swift and the Dawgs ran all over the Tigers in their 2017 rematch game, to advance to the school’s first ever College Football Playoff. If not for this awesome win over our little brother to the West, the Rose Bowl Game would not have happened.

Nothing truly made this one an instant classic game, but it definitely deserves a spot in the Top 3 for its significance and feel-good vibes.

The freshman running it back to Philadelphia on the Barn will never get old.

Oops, I called it the Barn again. Hope I didn’t offend a Barner…

Oh, little brother…

UGA Wire reveals it’s No. 4 Georgia football win of the decade

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

Folks, the moment you all have been waiting for. We have reached the Final Four.

Let’s get to it. Coming in at No. 4 on our list is the 2012 Georgia-Florida game, which will always be a fan favorite. Everyone remembers exactly where they were and who they were with when Jarvis Jones punched the ball out from Jordan Reed at the goal-line in Jacksonville, after a huge Malcolm Mitchell touchdown earlier in the game.

The hated Gators were about to score late in the game to try and tie things up at what was then Everbank Field, but Jones’ forced fumble helped to preserve a 17-9 Bulldog win on the St. John’s River.

A few weeks later, the Dawgs would clinch their second-straight trip to Atlanta, to play in an unofficial semifinal game for the BCS National Championship. And… that’s all we’ll say on that. We don’t need to go into detail.

UGA Wire ranks the top Georgia football wins of the decade number six

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

You’ve probably seen our first few listings which can be found on the front page of our site, but now it’s time to reveal the No. 6 spot in our rankings.

We’ve had quite a few games to choose from so far, but for No. 6 we are going to go with this year’s Georgia-Auburn game. Sure, there may be some recency bias, but the defensive performance the Bulldogs had on the Plains was outstanding and this game locked up a third-straight division title for Kirby Smart and company.

UGA Wire attended this game in November so it’s fresh in the back of our minds, but Jordan-Hare was an incredible takeover experience with a sea of Georgia fans and the stakes of this game were massive. The Bulldogs don’t often win at Auburn and the fact this was Smart’s first SEC road victory as a head coach made it that much sweeter.

In addition, the Iron Bowl went in the Tigers’ favor over Alabama just two weeks later, so yeah, that’s pretty cool. The Gumps can’t claim victory over little brother this year, but the Bulldogs can. *Waits for a 1980 or 2nd and 26 comment.*

War Damn Dawgs!

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

We’ve given you the 2013 Georgia Tech game, the 2014 Clemson game and the 2017 Tennessee game, but now it’s time for No. 7 on our list.

This one seems to fly under the radar amongst the Bulldog faithful sometimes, but it’s still a good one. The 2013 South Carolina game is one of our favorites, with a signature Justin Scott-Wesley catch being the deciding factor in an awesome revenge game for the 2012 beatdown in Columbia.

Unfortunately, the season would not turn out as the Dawgs had hoped, but at the time, this game felt like everything for Georgia, after a tough season-opening loss at Clemson.

Let’s take a look:

A great day for the Dawgs!

UGA Wire ranks the top Georgia football wins of the decade: #8

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

Coming in at No. 10 on our last was the 2013 Georgia Tech game, while the 2014 Clemson game claimed the No. 9 spot.

Now, it’s time to reveal our No. 8 in this list of the top Georgia football games of the decade. Coming in at No. 8 is the 2017 Tennessee game, due to the significance. While this wasn’t the most competitive matchup, it was a fan favorite, which will be remembered for a long time.

Nothing Georgia does will ever hurt the Tennessee fanbase like Hobnail Boot or the 41-0 beatdown on Rocky Top. Neyland Stadium might as well have performed a mandatory evacuation drill as thousands of orange-clad fans dashed to their cars in the middle of this contest, with the Bulldogs in complete control. Never mind the fact it was one of the worst losses in Volunteer football history. Yikes.

What a day in the Tennessee hills!

UGA Wire ranks the top Georgia football wins of the decade: #9

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

We gave you number ten, a thrilling come-from-behind victory over rival Georgia Tech in Atlanta in 2013. Now, it’s time for number nine.

The 2014 Georgia-Clemson contest comes next on our list, continuing the Todd Gurley era trend we’ve got going on. Gurley returned a kickoff to the house in the first half to tie the score at 21 before the Bulldogs exploded offensively in the second half, defeating the defending Orange Bowl Champions 45-21.

Georgia would gain praise from around the nation, moving all the way into the Top 3 nationally, before falling to South Carolina in a hard-fought battle just one game later. However, this particular game had it all. From Gurley’s return to the birth of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb and much, much more.

Given the recent dominance of Clemson, it feels even better to still hold the bragging rights over the Tigers from up I-85.

What a day in Athens!

Choice for Notre Dame’s Athletic Moment of the Decade an Obvious One

McGraw’s Irish had an all-time decade where deep NCAA Tournament runs were simply protocol.

No matter what sport you’re a fan of, if you’re a fan of Notre Dame athletics you had an incredibly memorable decade.

The football team returned to national prominence, twice going unbeaten in the regular season and making an appearance in the BCS Championship Game in 2012 and in the College Football Playoff in 2018.

Mike Brey’s basketball team reached heights that haven’t been seen in South Bend in a very long time as the Fighting Irish peaked mid-decade, winning the ACC in 2015 before nearly pulling the upset of unbeaten Kentucky in the Midwest Regional Final and coming within a buzzer-beater of going to the Final Four.  They’d return to the Elite Eight a year later before falling to North Carolina as well.

The men’s hockey team made seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament, something they had done just four times previously.  Three times they made the Frozen Four including a national final appearance in 2018.

As much as there was to get excited about there was one team that stuck out more than any others, and by a pretty significant margin.
