Texas A&M senior shooting guard Tyrece Radford earns SEC Player of the Week honors

The best men’s basketball player in the SEC the last week has been Aggies senior SG Tyrece Radford, which was confirmed on Monday afternoon.

This past week, the best men’s basketball player in the Southeastern Conference has been Texas A&M senior shooting guard Tyrece Radford.

Radford was named SEC Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, confirming what many people in College Station already knew. Junior point guard Wade Taylor VI and Radford led the Aggies (15-8, 6-4 SEC) to two conference wins this past week, 79-60 at Mizzou on Wednesday and 85-69 versus No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday night at Reed Arena.

Radford also earned Lute Olson National Player of the Week honors on Monday. Both accolades achieved by the senior sharpshooter are the first of his collegiate career. He averaged 24.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this past week. During both SEC victories, Radford shot 53.1% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line.

The native of Baton Rouge, Lousiana has now scored at least 20 points in three consecutive games for the first time, averaging 25 in his last three contests. Texas A&M is 12-1 during games where Radford scores 20 or more points since arriving at Aggieland in 2021.

Taylor was named the Naismith Awards’ Player of the Week on Monday morning. On Saturday, the dynamic duo became the third pair of teammates in the last 25 years to each tally at least 25 points and 5 assists against a Top 10-ranked opponent.

Best Photos: Texas A&M’s 79-60 road win over Missouri

Photos: Here are some of the best photos from Wednesday’s game against the Missouri Tigers

Texas A&M’s (14-8, 5-4 SEC) sweeps the season series vs the hapless Missouri Tigers (8-15, 0-10 SEC) 79-60 after an impressive team win Wednesday night.

It was a good night on the road for the Aggies, who picked up their fifth SEC win of the season and did so in impressive fashion. Tyrece Radford led all scorers with 22 points and Wade Taylor IV contributed 18 on the night. Forward Andersson Garcia did what he knows best, hauling in a staggering 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.

A&M was just as good on the defensive side of the ball, scoring 24 points off the 12 turnovers by the Tigers, with 8 of those coming from steals. They also held Missouri to 60 points, which is 13 points below the Tiger’s season average.

A&M will take the court again to face the 6th-ranked Tennesse Volunteers in College Station on Saturday night. The game will air on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. CT.

Everything Buzz Williams had to say after dominant win over Missouri

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say after the road win over Missouri.

Texas A&M’s (14-8, 5-4 SEC) sweeps the season series vs the hapless Missouri Tigers (8-15, 0-10 SEC) 79-60 after an impressive team win Wednesday night.

The Aggies looked every bit like a top-25 team against the Tigers after putting together a strong showing on the road. Tyrece Radford seems to be rounding back into shape and transfer guard Jace Carter had one of his better games of the season. If they can keep this pace, it will take a lot of pressure off Wade Taylor making it harder on defenses going forward.

One player Coach Buzz Williams has been able to count on is Andersson Garcia who’s been an unsung hero this season. He does all the dirty work and grabbing rebounds is the top job. Garcia has also earned comparisons to one of the most prolific rebounders in NBA history.

“Andy just has an innate sense as I said a month or so ago he’s Dennis Rodman when that ball’s in flight and you don’t you don’t think that he is he doesn’t look like that”

“You guys have heard me say it a lot … 550ish games that I’ve coached 17 years as a head coach I’ve never seen someone that has the impact on the game that he does that doesn’t have to have the ball and doesn’t have to score”

Below, you can watch the full post-game presser with Coach Buzz.

Post Game Recap: Texas A&M destroys Missouri behind Tyrece Radford’s 22 points

Behind Tyrece Radford’s game high 22 points coupled with Andersson Garcia’s 16 rebounds, Texas A&M defeated Missouri on the road. 79-60

Texas A&M’s (14-8, 5-4 SEC) strong second-half run was more than enough to sweep the season series vs the hapless Missouri Tigers (8-15, 0-10 SEC) 79-60 on Wednesday night behind an even scoring effort and tremendous defense.

Sitting with an average record of 4-4 in SEC play, the Aggies made their way to Columbia to face the Missouri Tigers on Wednesday night, who have yet to earn a conference win in nine attempts this season. However, playing on the road in any SEC environment is never easy.

Look to start out hot and establish early momentum; A&M played as energized as ever behind an efficient offensive attack while shooting 43% from the field, coupled with their usual rebounding dominance (23-14 rebound advantage) in the first half. However, the Aggies’ tempo led to an impressive 16-0 run to finish the half, holding the Tigers’ with a nearly eight-minute scoring drought on the defensive end.

Attacking the paint at will, veteran guard Tyrece Radford, who was coming off his 26-point performance in last Saturday’s win vs. Florida, led the team with 10 first-half points. In comparison, senior forward Andersson Garcia’s All-SEC-like performance was the most impactful, netting 5 points and 11(!) rebounds, coupled with forward Henry Coleman’s efficient 8 points and 4 boards. Star point guard Wade Taylor IV was relatively quiet, recording six points and three assists on 2-6 shooting. Texas A&M led 38-25 at halftime.

Second Half:

With a double-digit lead providing a slight cushion, Missouri began to battle back, going on their own 7-2 run to open the half, while the Aggies started off sloppy, as the Tigers changed things up defensively in the paint. The Aggie’s offensive game plan changed as the lead dwindled: get fouled and make your free throws.

After Henry Coleman left the game due to an apparent midsection injury, Tyrece Radford took control. He drove to his left for a basket or got to the free throw line, scoring seven of A&M’s nine points to take a 56-45 lead with under ten minutes remaining. Under the radar, transfer guard Jace Carter was highly efficient, shooting 50% from the floor, including 2-4 from beyond the arc.

Getting everyone involved, the Aggie’s performance free throw line (15-19) paired with Wade Taylor’s late offensive output sealed the game, as the lead ballooned to 75-56 with more than a minute left. Shooting an SEC season-high 47.6% on the night after getting back in rhythm late, the storyline was still Andersson Garcia’s consistent toughness in nearly every metric, while the Aggies are now 11-1 this season in games where Tyrece Radford scores 20 points or more, scoring a game-high 22 points on the night.

No matter Missouri’s record, this was a significant road win for the Maroon & White, who are now tied for sixth with Florida in the SEC standings.

Note: Henry Coleman III left the game due to an apparent midsection injury

Below are the Aggies critical contributors from the game:

Wade Taylor IV:  18 points / 5 rebounds / 3 assists

Tyrece Radford:  22 points / 4 rebounds

Andersson Garcia:  7 points / 16 rebounds / 5 assists / 2 blocks / 1 steal

Jace Carter:  12 points / 5 rebounds / 2 assists

Missouri’s top contributors:

Tamar Bates: 20 points / 3 rebounds

Nick Honor: 19 points/ 2 assists

Noah Carter: 11 points / 4 rebounds / 2 assists

Next up, the 6th-ranked Tennesse Volunteers will visit the Aggies in College Station on Saturday night. The game will air on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. CT.

How to watch: Texas A&M vs. Missouri basketball game

Texas A&M is in the position to cross the .500 mark in SEC play for the first time this season with a win over Missouri

Texas A&M (13-8, 4-4 SEC) will be back on the road to take on the Missouri Tigers (8-14, 0-9 SEC) on Wednesday at 8:00 PM CST.

The Aggies might have finally figured out a formula while they are still working through their shooting woes. The formula is to attack the basket and get to the foul line often. The last time these teams played, A&M was below 30% but came out with a 63-57 partly due to them being able to hit 27-37 of their free throws. While the Tigers only attempted 10 for the whole game. Coach Buzz Williams no doubt will look to take advantage of Missouri’s aggressive style of play.

The Tigers have been on the struggle bus since SEC play started and have yet to notch their first conference win. Game one between the team was in reach and if they can be more disciplined on the defensive side of the ball this can be a winnable game. The duo of Tamar Bates and Sean East has been their bread and butter on the offensive side combining for an average of 33.6 points during conference play. Both will need to have big games if they want to have confidence moving forward.

The A&M SEC opponents are hosting Kentucky, Florida, and Tennessee at Reed Arena to highlight the home slate. The Aggies’ road foes include AlabamaArkansasAuburnGeorgiaLSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

Manny Obaseki speaks ahead of Texas A&M vs. Missouri

Here’s what Texas A&M player Manny Obaseki had to say ahead of the game against Missouri

Texas A&M (13-8, 4-4 SEC) will be back on the road to take on the Missouri Tigers (8-14, 0-9 SEC) on Wednesday at 8:00 PM CST.

The Aggies are still hanging in the thick of things in SEC play. With their issues with jump shots, Coach Buzz Williams has been preaching attack, attack, attack. He wants his team to aggressively get to the basket and into the bonus as early as possible.

Outside of Wade Taylor and Tyrece Radford, the next best option to get to the rim is Manny Obaseki. Even though his minutes may not reflect how important he is to the team when he gets on the court, he is among the most athletic players on the floor. He spoke about how they try to stay prepared while playing through conference play.

“Chance favors are most well prepared so you know what I’m saying I think as a team as a group as a unit we’ve prepared ourselves the best we can, and we continue to do that…”

Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M vs. Missouri

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say ahead of the game against Missouri

Texas A&M (13-8, 4-4 SEC) will be back on the road to take on the Missouri Tigers (8-14, 0-9 SEC) on Wednesday at 8:00 PM CST.

After a home stand where they went 2-1, the Aggies started off with a 63-57 win over the Missouri Tigers. A&M will now have the opportunity to finally go over .500 for the first time since entering SEC play. On paper, this should be a win for the Aggies but I’ve yet to be convinced they will beat the teams they are supposed to beat on a consistent basis. Even if they already beat them under a month ago.

A big part of Texas A&M’s ability to stay in these games is that they limit the turnovers and are among the best in the country at protecting the ball. Head coach Buzz Williams touched on this during this weekly press conference.

“I think our guys have been really good at listening to the staff in regards to how important turnover rate is, how important offensive rebound percentage is, how important free throw rate is, and how all of that ties into helping overcome where we’re struggling offensively”

Below, you can watch the full presser Q&A with Coach Buzz Williams.

Watch: Highlights from Texas A&M’s 69-67 victory over Missouri

Watch the best plays from the Aggies’ 69-67 victory for their first SEC road win of the season.

The moves coach Joni Taylor made in the offseason are paying major dividends. Her team is tough and all surpassed last year’s win total overall in SEC play. They crossed another test this past game by winning their first road game in league play this year after defeating Missouri 69-67 on Thursday night.

They were led by transfers Aicha Coulibaly and Lauren Ware. Together, they made several timely buckets down the stretch as the Missouri Tigers mounted a strong comeback. Coulibaly struggled from the field but her major contribution came on the offensive boards with five rebounds leading both teams in that category. Ware had an extremely efficient night, going 10-13 for a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds, just missing out on a double-double.

Texas A&M currently sits in the middle of the pack at 3-3 in SEC play with 10 games left on the schedule. No one can predict the future, but the Aggies are in a good position to make a move into the top three teams in the league and enter the Top 25. Below, you can see some of the top plays from the Aggie’s rousing road triumph over the Missouri Tigers.

Watch: Top plays from Texas A&M’s 63-57 win vs. Missouri

Check out the highlights from the Aggies second straight SEC win with a victory over the Missouri Tigers

Texas A&M is not playing the greatest offensive basketball right now, but they have found a way to win their last 3 of 4 games. What looked to be a disastrous 1-3 start to SEC play has now evened out for the Aggies, who sit at 3-3 with a chance to make a run.

I’m unsure if A&M will ever shoot about 40% at any point this season, even while getting good looks. With as many shots as they do miss them, being the top offensive rebounding team in the nation gives them plenty of second-chance opportunities and that has been the saving grace to keep them on most of the games this year.

A complete team effort on the defensive side of the ball against the Missouri Tigers led to double-digit turnovers and aggressive play in the paint gave the Aggies multiple trips to the free-throw line which ultimately made the difference in the game. Below, you can check out some of the best plays from the 63-57 win over Missouri at Reed Arena.

‘We’ve got to make sure that everything is tough for them’ Williams & Jones answers questions in preview of the Missouri game

Here’s what Texas A&M players Sole Williams and Sahara Jones had to say during the Missouri matchup preview.

Texas A&M (14-4, 2-3) will be on the road to face the Missouri Tigers (11-8, 2-4) on Thursday night.

The Aggies have needed others to step up as they get deeper into SEC play and are dealing with a few injuries. Senior Sahara Jones has stepped up and has a very smooth game that translates well to what Coach Joni Taylor asks her team to do. She touched upon how she has been able to hit a groove in the recent games after starting a little slow.

“…been in the gym getting up shots and now they’re just finally falling which is good for me and it’s also good for my team so we can get points on the board of course and so like my teammates won’t always feel that the pressure is on them to score now they like have some relief so I’m really happy about that”
