Notre Dame Offers Scholarship to Son of Two-Time Pro Bowler

Notre Dame has two o-line commitments in their 2021 recruiting class but offered another Friday, the son of a former NFL Pro Bowl tackle.

Three years ago today was a big day for the 2023 Notre Dame football team and for their best player.  You see, Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt, who some call the best tackle in college football, was offered a scholarship on this day three years ago.

Below is what we originally wrote when that news came to be.  Let me just tell you I’m proud of the growth we’ve had as a team of writers in those three years…

From May 22, 2020:

Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn made another scholarship offer on Friday, this one to the son of a two-time NFL Pro Bowl offensive lineman.

Joe Alt, a 6-7, 245 pound offensive tackle from Minneapolis announced the offer on Friday afternoon.  Alt is the son of former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle John, who played his college football at Iowa.

Iowa is one of the six other schools to have already offered Alt.  The Hawkeyes, Minnesota, Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri and Northwestern all offered Alt before Notre Dame jumped on board Friday.

The athleticism in the family didn’t get passed on to just Joe, as his brother Mark played college hockey before getting drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes.  Mark currently plays for the Colorado Avalanche.

Notre Dame currently has two offensive lineman commitments in their 2021 recruiting class:  OT Blake Fisher and OG Pat Coogan.

LSU offers top 150 defensive lineman from Missouri

LSU will have to fight off Wisconsin for one of the best prospects in the class of 2024.

LSU will have to fight off Wisconsin for one of the top 150 players in the class of 2024.

Film Analysis: Lindstrom stars as a defensive end in the Falcons’ 4-3 defensive scheme. As you can see in his film, he has to face a few teams that run the Wing-T offense so he is very aware of containing his side of the field.

5-star Luther Burden’s commitment to Missouri is icing on a strong class

Luther Burden committed to Missouri football, adding a five-star playmaker to the Tigers’ strong class of recruits.

On top of everything else that makes the SEC so difficult to compete in, Missouri football has struggled to recruit as well as its peers in recent years.

Last year, Mizzou picked up a pair of four-star recruits but was ranked the No. 11 class in the conference. That was actually an improvement, breaking a five-year streak in which the Tigers finished 13th in the conference, a stretch in which they got four total four-star players.

With the commitment of five-star wide receiver Luther Burden, ranked on the 247Sports Composite as the No. 5 player in the class, second-best receiver and top player in Missouri, Mizzou is staring down its competition.

The Tigers have six four-star commits, as many as they had in the previous six years combined, and are getting contributors on both sides of the ball. With a quarterback, running back, two wide receivers and offensive lineman all ranked as four-star players or better, this may be the offensive foundation for the next three years. On the other side of the ball, a four-star safety and four-star defensive lineman join the group.

There is still much recruiting to be done, but Missouri’s class is ranked by 247Sports as the fifth-best class in the SEC and 14th in the nation, massive step-ups from years past.

Burden, who committed on Tuesday, makes plays on offense and special teams. In 13 games over this season and last, he has 81 receptions for 1,489 yards and 17 touchdowns, and has also returned kickoffs and punts this season. Just two days before his commitment, Burden caught two touchdown passes and returned a punt for another score.

He turns this class from a good group into a great one.
