Mississippi State at Ole Miss: Three things to know
- Mississippi State lost its last game versus Georgia 31-24 but covered as a 26.5-point underdog. The Bulldogs are finally starting to settle into first-year head coach Mike Leach’s infamous Air Raid system as they haven’t turned the ball over in their past two games after committing 19 turnovers in their first five outings.
- Ole Miss’ scheduled matchup against Texas A&M last week was postponed due to COVID-19. The Rebels won and covered in back-to-back games, having scored a combined 133 points against South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
- This is the first Egg Bowl for Leach and Lane Kiffin since each was hired this past offseason by Mississippi State and Ole Miss, respectively.

Mississippi State at Ole Miss: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Ole Miss 38, Mississippi State 31
Money line (ML)
PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. At -334 on the money line, Ole Miss is a no-go and Mississippi State is too inconsistent to back for the upset.
Against the spread (ATS)
Mississippi State has looked better in back-to-back games after losing five in a row, four by double-digits. The Bulldogs covered in last week’s loss at Georgia and they won outright two games prior against Vanderbilt. Freshman QB Will Rogers has started to find his groove, completing over 76% of his passes in Mississippi State’s last two games.
Ole Miss’ pass defense has been terrible this year, ranking 124th in opponent’s completion percentage, 114th in opponent’s pass yards per attempt and 91st in sack rate. Also, Ole Miss gives up the 11th-most second-half points so the backdoor is always open.
GIMME MISSISSIPPI STATE +10 (-115) for 1 unit.
Over/Under (O/U)
The total has been steamed up from a 65.5-point opening total to the current number. The pros and joes are on the Over here, with more than 90% of both the money wagered and bets placed on the Over, according to Pregame.com.
The Egg Bowl is a big deal in Mississippi but it’s not like the public is lining up to bet Mississippi State-Ole Miss, so I’m inclined to follow the money. I only lean OVER 68.5 (-110) because we are late to the party and Mississippi State’s defense has put together some impressive outings.
