Prediction

Minnesota United FC 1, Columbus Crew SC 0 (on PKs)

Moneyline (ML)

DRAW (+260) is the way to go. It’s a tremendous value, as this one won’t be decided in regulation. If the game goes extra time or to penalty kicks, the draw still pays based on the result after regulation. For my money, that’s the play. Minnesota United FC (+240) went unbeaten in three group-stage games but played to two draws. Columbus (+110) is heavily favored because it was the only club to win all three of its group matches.

However, Columbus GK Eloy Room missed the Atlanta United game July 21 due to a hamstring injury and is a question mark for Tuesday. He posted two clean sheets against FC Cincinnati and the New York Red Bulls in the group stages. In addition, M Youness Mokhtar is dealing with what is believed to be a groin or muscle injury. The Moroccan buried the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Atlanta, and his loss would also be difficult for the Crew.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 2.5 (+100) is even money, and the way to go. The Crew posted three clean sheets in group play, while Minnesota scored just four times while conceding three goals. This will be a hotly contested defensive battle.

Prediction

Minnesota United FC 2, Colorado Rapids 0

Moneyline (ML)

MINNESOTA UNITED FC (+115) is the play here, as Colorado (+200) has had a brutal stay in the bubble and are yet to pick up a point in two matches. In fact, the Rapids have a dismal minus-3 goal differential and enter this match knowing that they’re eliminated from Round of 16 contention, so they’re unlikely to offer a ton of resistance. Meanwhile, Minnesota enters with plenty on the line, including a potential ticket to the Round of 16 and seeding.

A winning $10 wager on Minnesota United FC (+115) returns a net profit of $11.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 2.5 (+125) is worth a small-unit play here. The Rapids have struggled mightily on offense in this tournament. While they have conceded five goals, and that’s a bit of a concern, Minnesota has found the back of the net just twice through two matches. In addition, UNDER 2.5 goals has cashed in each of the previous three meetings between these clubs across all competitions, including a pair of 1-0 decisions in the past two matches.

Prediction

Minnesota United 2, Real Salt Lake 1

Moneyline (ML)

MINNESOTA UNITED (+150) is a slight favorite over defensive-minded Real Salt Lake (+165) in this one. United stunned Sporting KC Sunday with two goals in stoppage time in the second half, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win. United will take that momentum and energy and parlay it into a second consecutive win in the bubble, taking a less circuitous route to a 2-1 victory this time around. If you are feeling the 2-1 exact score in favor of Minnesota, it pays +900, by the way.

A winning $10 wager on Minnesota United (+150) returns a $15 net profit. A $10 wager on Minnesota winning by the exact score of 2-1 (+900) would pay $90.

Over/Under (O/U)

The line is OVER 2.5 (-154). Over bettors were treated to an amazing finish in Minnesota’s opener, while Under bettors were shaking their heads after a monumental bad beat. Look for at least three goals in this one, as Minnesota has plenty of firepower and it is missing two key defenders.

Prediction

Sporting Kansas City 2, Minnesota United FC 1

Moneyline (ML)

SPORTING KC (+135) sat atop the table after two matches before the pause button was pressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They looked like a juggernaut early on, posting a 4-0 win over a beleaguered Houston side after an impressive 3-1 win over Vancouver in the March 1 opener. That’s good for a plus-6 goal differential after just two matches.

Right on their heels was Minnesota (+180), who has a healthy plus-5 goal differential, second only to KC. There are some concerns for Minnesota United, as Opara opted out of the tournament due to an unspecified injury, although it has been confirmed he did not test positive for coronavirus.

Add in the fact Kallman still has seven more games to serve out of his 10-game suspension, and the underdogs are a bit light in the defensive department. That’s not good against a blitzkrieg offense like KC.

A winning $10 wager on Sporting KC (+135) fetches a return of $13.50. A $10 play on Minnesota United FC (+180) would net a profit of $18, while a draw (+270) would return a $27 profit on a $10 wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 (-162) is a bit costly, but the way both of these teams scored goals in the early going of the season, it should be possible. Yes, we have had a long layoff, but just look to Saturday’s 4-0 drumming by Columbus against Cincinnati.

Even after a long layoff, some teams are picking up right where they left off. It won’t be a shootout, but three goals should be easily attainable.
