Minnesota Timberwolves at New Orleans Pelicans odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at New Orleans Pelicans odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (24-25) play the 2nd and final game of a Gulf Coast road trip against the New Orleans Pelicans (26-22) Wednesday. Tip-off from Smoothie King Center is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Timberwolves vs. Pelicans odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Timberwolves kicked off their 2-game mini trip with a 119-114 loss at Houston on Monday in the back end of a home-and-home set with the Rockets. That loss snapped a 3-0 against-the-spread (ATS) run for Minnesota.

The Pelicans are on a 5-game slide, including a 99-98 nail-biter loss against the Denver Nuggets in NOLA on Tuesday. While New Orleans has been on a losing skid, it has covered the past 2 games, and the Pels look to match a season-best 3-0 ATS run with a cover.

Timberwolves at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 119, Timberwolves 114

Moneyline

The PELICANS (-130) are worth a look if you don’t want to bother with the points. The Timberwolves have some injury concerns, especially if Gobert cannot go. The “Stifle Tower” is averaging 13.3 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in his 40 games this season. If Gobert is out, it will open up the paint for the Pelicans to do their thing.

Against the spread

PELICANS -2.5 (-105) is worth a play despite that they are coming in on no rest. While NOLA is 2-5 ATS in the past 7 games on no rest, it is 5-1 ATS in the past 6 games against teams with a losing straight-up record and 6-2 ATS in the past 8 home games against teams with a losing road mark.

Over/Under

OVER 231.5 (-105) is worth a look based on the series trends, including an impressive 15-3 in the previous 18 meetings.

The Over has also cashed in 6 of the past 8 road games for the T’Wolves and is 5-2 in their past 7 against winning teams.

The Over is 7-3 in the past 10 home games for the Pelicans while going 5-2 in their last 7 on no rest and 4-1 in their last 5 against losing teams.

Minnesota Timberwolves at New Orleans Pelicans odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at New Orleans Pelicans odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (16-18) battle the New Orleans Pelicans (21-12) Wednesday. Tip from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Timberwolves vs. Pelicans odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Pelicans beat the Indiana Pacers 113-93 at 2-point home favorites Monday. New Orleans, with that cover, pushed its season-long against-the-spread (ATS) record to 18-15. The Pelicans have covered 3 straight games and are 5-5 ATS in their last 10. They rank 3rd in points per game (117.8) and 6th in field goal percentage (48.3%).

The Timberwolves (+1) lost Monday on the road 113-110 to the Miami Heat.  Minnesota has now failed to cover 3 straight and is just 4-6 ATS in its last 10. It has been playing recently without 2-time All-NBA C Karl-Anthony Towns. Minnesota ranks 3rd in the NBA in FG percentage (49.1%).

Timberwolves at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 119, Timberwolves 116

Moneyline

PASS.

The Wolves won’t have the firepower to keep up with Williamson and company. I like Minnesota, but would rather play its spread than its moneyline odds even at (+240).

Against the spread

BET TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-105).

The Wolves, despite what most may think, have only lost 4 games by 7 or more points without KAT this season. They are 6-7 straight up without their star big man.

The Wolves had also covered 3 straight prior to their current 3-game ATS losing streak. Minnesota has also been dangerously close to cover, missing the last 3 games by 2.5, 2.5 and 2.

The Wolves rank 3rd in field goal percentage while the Pelicans sit 9th in opponents’ FG percentage (46.3%) as well. New Orleans is just 3-4 straight up over its last 7 games as well.

Ultimately, considering how the Wolves have played without KAT, I would back them to keep things close. Play WOLVES +6.5 (-105).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 232.5 (-110).

The Pelicans have gone Over in 5 of their last 6 games. They are 19-14 O/U this season.

New Orleans also sits 8th in offensive rebounding rate which is impressive and should bode well against Minnesota which sits 25th in defensive rebounding rate.

With the Wolves 5th in pace and the Pelicans abusing them on the boards, scoring should be done with ease. Minnesota has gone Over in its last 2 straight as well.

Back the OVER 232.5 (-110).

Timberwolves at Pelicans: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pelicans 124, Timberwolves 110

Money line (ML)

The PELICANS (-350) are huge favorites in this game, but that actually has to do more with the current state of the Timberwolves. Minnesota has lost nine straight games and is just 2-16 in their last 18 road games.

This is one of the worst teams in the NBA and they likely won’t be able to turn things around anytime soon. These odds are a bit chalky but take the Pelicans here in what should be a blowout.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PELICANS -8 (-110) is the play here as the Timberwolves have failed to cover the spread in nine straight games. Before the All-Star break, the Timberwolves were having major problems staying competitive in games as they lost to the Hornets by 33 points in their final game.

New Orleans hasn’t been much better against the spread (4-9 in their previous 13 games) but they inspire much more confidence here, especially at home. Take the Pelicans here to win by double-digits on Thursday night.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 238.5 (-110)  is our lean here as the Timberwolves currently have one of the worst offenses in the NBA. They are averaging fewer than 108 points per game and their offensive output is highly inconsistent on a night-to-night basis.

Both teams rank inside the bottom five in defense so expect some scoring, but 238.5 seems like five points (or so) too many.
