Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (16-17) battle the Minnesota Timberwolves (16-17) Monday. Tip from FTX Arena in Miami is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Timberwolves vs. Heat odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Heat lost to the Indiana Pacers 111-108 Friday, failing to cover as 6.5-point home favorites. Miami has been the worst against-the-spread (ATS) team in the NBA, posting just a 10-21-2 record. It is 9-8 straight up at home and still has a 16-17 record. The Heat are just 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10.

The Timberwolves lost to the Boston Celtics 121-109 as 9.5-point road underdogs Friday. They looked in prime position to cover, but lost the 4th  quarter 33-23. Minnesota is 5-5 ATS in its last 10 games yet has failed to cover 2 in a row. The Wolves have also disappointed bettors, posting just as 13-20 season-long ATS record.

Timberwolves at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 112, Heat 109

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Wolves to win, but I would still prefer to play the points rather than the moneyline odds.

Against the spread

BET TIMBERWOLVES +2.5 (+102).

While KAT is out, the Wolves should have both size and scoring with C Rudy Gobert and G Anthony Edwards, who leads the team averaging 23.2 points per game.

The Wolves also hung with the Celtics for 3 quarters and barely failed to cover their game prior. They are 3-2 ATS in their last 5. The Heat have lost 2 straight and have been favorites in their last 10, in which they have just a 2-7-1 ATS record.

The Heat allow 109.2 points per game which ranks 4th in the NBA, but they sit 19th (47.3%) and 18th (36%) in field goal percentage and 3-point field-goal percentage, so they aren’t quite a dominant defense still.

Ultimately, given the Heat’s struggles at home and against the spread, back the TIMBERWOLVES +2.5 (+102).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 222.5 (-110).

Both teams have been more consistent in hitting the Under than the Over this season. The Wolves, who played at the highest pace in the league last season, sit 5th in pace now.

The addition of Gobert has aided their defense. They are 14-19 O/U this season. The Heat, who have had stints without Butler, are just 16-17 O/U. They are 1-5 O/U in their last 6.

Ultimately, considering the trends, back the UNDER 222.5 (-110).

Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Miami Heat (35-31) hosts Minnesota Timberwolves (20-46) Friday at American Airlines Arena for an 8 p.m. ET game. Below, we analyze the Timberwolves-Heat odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Minnesota has lost back-to-back games to the New Orleans Pelicans Saturday and Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday outright and failed to cover by a half-point in each game.

Before the last two games, the T-Wolves won four in a row and six of eight (6-1-1 against this spread in those games), which includes a 119-111 over the Heat in their first meeting this season (April 16).

The 7-seed Heat have the same record as the sixth-place Boston Celtics but are behind them, and in the play-in territory (seeds 7-10 participate in the postseason play-in), because they lose the tiebreaker.

Miami’s three-game winning streak was snapped its last time out by the Dallas Mavericks but the Heat are 7-3 overall and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games.

Timberwolves at Heat: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Heat 115, Timberwolves 112

Money line (ML)

PASS even though I’m on Minnesota plus the points in this spot and often will sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover because the T-Wolves (+195) invent new ways to choke away leads.

Maybe it’d be worth taking a shot on Minnesota’s money line if we knew Butler would miss tonight’s game, but at the moment let’s focus on the spread.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the TIMBERWOLVES +6 (-110) for a half unit pending Butler’s game status, and if he misses I’d be willing to up my bet to a full unit.

The T-Wolves upset the Heat a few weeks ago with Butler in the lineup so they could certainly do it again if he doesn’t play, and Minnesota has been cashing ATS tickets for backers recently.

And as much as I like Heat All-Star Bam Adebayo, T-Wolves big Karl-Anthony Towns is a better player with a significant size advantage.

KAT scored an easy 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting before fouling out of the previous Timberwolves-Heat meeting, and that was due in part to Butler’s aggressiveness at attacking the basket, which gets opponents into foul trouble.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the OVER 222.5 (-115) for 1 unit because if Butler doesn’t play I anticipate Miami upping its volume of 3-point attempts, which would be bad news for a Minnesota team that has the worst 3-point defense in the league.

Also, the Over has cashed in three straight Minnesota games, seven consecutive Miami games and in eight of the previous Timberwolves-Heat meetings.
