Watch: Mike Keith’s funny call for Titans RB Tyjae Spears’ wild Week 4 play

Mike Keith’s call on Titans RB Tyjae Spears’ wild 26-yard gain in the second quarter against the Bengals.

During the Tennessee Titans’ 27-3 Week 4 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, running back Tyjae Spears managed to turn what looked like a disastrous play into a big gain.

In the second quarter, the Titans called a toss play to Spears, but the rookie bobbled the toss and dropped it on the ground before picking it up and reversing course across the field.

Using his electric speed and agility, Spears managed to turn what was nearly a drive-killing loss into a 26-yard gain that got the Titans to midfield. Two plays later, the Titans found pay dirt on a Derrick Henry 29-yard run.

Titans announcer Mike Keith had some fun with the play, properly comparing Spears’ incredible run to “a carnival act.”

Spears finished the game with five carries for 40 yards (eight yards per carry) and three receptions for 18 yards.

The rookie continues to flash his impressive skill set and like head coach Mike Vrabel said, it’s just a matter of time before he breaks the big one.

Watch: Mike Keith’s call for Titans’ game-winning FG in Week 2

Watch Mike Keith make the call for the Titans’ game-winning field goal in Week 2.

Tennessee Titans legendary radio broadcaster Mike Keith is known for producing some of the best sound bites across the league.

Whether he’s eloquently describing a literal playoff miracle in the Music City, emphasizing the importance of a sack, or anything in between, Keith has a knack for making even the most casual fan understand what’s going on, even if they’re unable to physically watch the game themselves.

Last Sunday, he once again had the privilege of calling another memorable game inside Nissan Stadium that ended with kicker Nick Folk booting the game-winning field goal in overtime.

As Keith so aptly put it, the win was “the redemption of Ryan Tannehill,” who was embattled to say the least going into the game.

Check out video of the call below.

This game had it all, with big plays on offense and defense, tons of drama, perfect weather early on, and the exact opposite of that by the end of the overtime period.

In the end, Tennessee found a way to “beat an arch nemesis from over 60 years ago” in order to secure its first win of the 2023 season, and it first win since Week 11 of last season, snapping an eight-game losing streak.

Mike Keith lists his top-3 moments as Titans announcer

Mike Keith’s No. 1 moment as Titans announcer comes as no surprise.

Tennessee Titans announcer and Vice President of broadcasting, Mike Keith, has seen some great moments during his career, but what are the top three in his mind?

Keith answered that question and more during a Q&A with Jim Wyatt of Titans Online ahead of his 2021 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction.

Keith listed the “Music City Miracle” as his No. 1 moment, which any Titans fan probably could have guessed. Coming in second on his list was the team’s 2019 playoff upset of the New England Patriots.

Rounding out the top three might be the biggest surprise on his list, as Keith named Tennessee’s playoff victory over the Indianapolis Colts in 1999, which came in the next round after the “Music City Miracle” game.

Keith explained why, and provided a great story in the process:

“Number three will probably surprise you, but our 1999 playoff win at Indianapolis,” Keith revealed. “We had just beaten the Buffalo Bills in the Music City Miracle game and were supposed to be done. After all, we couldn’t be expected to bounce back after using all that emotion? Plus, it was our first game against Peyton Manning. I covered Manning for all four years at Tennessee and really enjoyed working with him. He was a total pro when he was 17 years old, just like he is today in 2021. That week, I gave an interview to a national writer who realized that I had been at Tennessee with Manning. I said nice things about him (as I was taught to do by my mother!), but when the article came out, the writer claimed that I was probably be rooting for Peyton Manning over the Tennessee Titans! I was mortified, especially because everyone around the Titans office started teasing me incessantly about it, including Jeff Fisher. It was brutal and I was just sick. Coming off the Music City Miracle call, I was cut down to size within hours from all of the ribbing that I took leading up to January 16, 2000. So when we beat the Colts in Indianapolis, I was fired up…and relieved! It was a great game by Eddie George and Blaine Bishop, two of the best individual performances that I have ever witnessed by Titans. I learned the lesson that in the NFL, even if you really value and like someone on another NFL team, don’t talk about him!”

Keith recalls that he was about as “fired-up” after the Colts game as he had ever been as a broadcaster, and there were an estimated thousands awaiting the team’s return to the airport following the contest.

Keith wasn’t the only member of the organization to receive an honor during the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday.

The Titans were named the “2021 Professional Team of the Year” and running back Derrick Henry was awarded the “Tennessean of the Year.”

In case you missed the ceremony, you can watch it in its entirety right here.

Watch: Titans announcer Mike Keith finds out he’ll be inducted into Tennessee Sports HOF

Titans great Eddie George surprised Mike Keith with the news.

Tennessee Titans radio announcer Mike Keith will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2021.

Keith has been “The Voice of the Titans” for over two decades and is loved by fans and the organization because of his unique style, mics skills, and for being a downright great human being.

Now, his contributions will forever be enshrined in the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

“Obviously, I wasn’t good enough to make it as a player, and I sure couldn’t coach. So, the fact that I am able to talk about sports and be involved in it in this way through the TSSAA and the University of Tennessee and obviously the Tennessee Titans. … It is just really special in a way that is hard to describe,” Keith said, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

Keith was doing an interview with CBS analyst Charles Davis when Titans great Eddie George jumped on the call and revealed the surprise.

“It was a tremendous surprise, and to be told by Eddie George was just incredibly special, there’s no other way to put it. This really means a lot,” Keith said.

It has been a pretty good week for Keith, who was also recently promoted to Vice President of Broadcasting within the organization.

There are few people more deserving of this honor than Keith. Congratulations to a legend.

Mike Keith: ‘There’s a real chance’ Titans sign Jadeveon Clowney

Mike Keith says don’t close the door on the Titans signing Jadeveon Clowney.

Tennessee Titans radio announcer Mike Keith believes “there’s a real chance” the team could still sign Jadeveon Clowney in free agency.

Clowney continues to wait for the right time to sign with one of his suitors, and Titans general manager Jon Robinson continues to make it clear the team is still keeping an eye on the situation.

On NFL Network, Keith made the case that Clowney signing in Nashville makes sense and could still happen with the Titans having about $19.3 million in cap space left.

“Oh, I think there’s a real chance because the Titans have cap room, they certainly have a connection from Mike Vrabel’s time in Houston,” Keith explained. “They have other connections within the team that are reaching out to him — Johnathan Joseph, former teammate from the same hometown, Taylor Lewan reaching out on social media, other players saying they’d love to have him. If you’re Clowney, the Titans certainly make sense if the dollars make sense… but the Titans have clearly left the door open publicly that they have interest in Clowney. Now, will what they want to pay and what he wants to get paid match up?  That I don’t have any idea, but I wouldn’t rule the Titans out in this, no.”

One of the things that could play a huge factor in Clowney choosing the Titans is his connections to the team, as Keith pointed out.

Joseph is a close friend of Clowney’s and a former teammate, and then you have Vrabel, who was his defensive coordinator with the Houston Texans in 2017, the same season Clowney totaled a career-high 9.5 sacks.

While the Titans have already attempted to upgrade their pass-rush with the signing of Vic Beasley, adding Clowney also would really put the Titans’ defense over the top.

Not only does Clowney offer a pass-rush upgrade, he’s also elite against the run, an area where Beasley has struggled in the past, and can drop into coverage when need be.

If the Titans want to take that next step and become a team that can compete for a Super Bowl, Clowney could very well be the answer.
