Several notable names miss practice for Bucs on injury report

Apart from the team being without All-Pro Antoine Winfield Jr., they also miss several other prominent names from Wednesday’s practice.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a constant problem this year when it comes to getting bit by the injury bug. The team seems to be dealing with it on a larger scale than we could have ever thought heading into Week 15 against the Chargers.

The team is without All-Pro Antoine Winfield Jr. but several other prominent names were listed as not practicing from Wednesday’s practice.

Ten players were listed in total, with some notable names, including Mike Edwards, Tristan Wirfs, Ben Bredeson, Mike Evans, and Bucky Irving. These are all starters and players who, if the team were without them, could be in trouble come Sunday against the Chargers.

All of these situations will be worth monitoring as the week progresses and more injury reports get published.

Bucs provide update on Mike Edwards following injury against Panthers

Mike Edwards suffered a hamstring injury that saw him leave their game against the Panthers and now his status against the Raiders is clear.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a revolving door of health issues in their secondary in 2024. They have signed several players as replacements, including Mike Edwards.

In Week 13, Mike Edwards suffered a hamstring injury that forced him to leave their game against the Panthers, and now his status against the Raiders is clear.

Jenna Laine of ESPN reported on Tuesday that Edwards is expected to be out at least a week with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The Bucs saw Edwards as a potential playmaker in the defensive back room, and they have made a move to help replace his production.

The Bucs signed Kaevon Merriweather off the Detroit Lions practice squad. Merriweather had spent some time with the Bucs in 2024 before being waived and picked up by Detroit. He played in nine of the first ten games for the Bucs this season, mostly on special teams, but now he seems primed for an expanded role.

Mike Edwards injury vs. Panthers: Latest news on Bucs S

Bucs safety Mike Edwards has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Panthers with a hamstring injury.

Bucs safety Mike Edwards has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Panthers with a hamstring injury. It is unclear when Edwards suffered the injury though it may have come on Carolina’s second quarter drive that ended in kicker Eddy Pineiro’s second missed field goal.

Mike Edwards injury update

Bucs Safety depth chart

Even before Edwards’ injury, the Bucs were already very thin in the secondary. Starting safety, Jordan Whitehead was put on injured reserve this week with a pectoral injury, and nickel corner Tykee Smith has missed the last two weeks with a knee injury.

Backup safety Christian Izien is already playing nickel corner in Smith’s place. Tavierre Thomas is the only other healthy safety on the roster, though he primarily plays special teams. The Bucs cannot afford many more injuries in the defensive backfield, which has struggled all year in the face of injuries and generally inconsistent play.

Mike Edwards is ready to make some plays for the Bucs defense

The team may be getting a boost in that category, though, if defensive back Mike Edwards has anything to say about it.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had some serious issues in the secondary during the 2024 season. They have surrendered a lot of passing yards, given up big plays, and proven they have a hard time forcing turnovers.

The team may be getting a boost in that category, though, if defensive back Mike Edwards has anything to say about it.

Edwards has been around the ball since his Kentucky days when he had 10 interceptions. In the NFL, Edwards has eight of them, three of which resulted in touchdowns.

Speaking to Bucs media, Edwards said, “That was my thing and I carried my way all the way to the league. I feel like ever since my rookie year, I’ve been trying to find the ball and that kind of stuck with the name ‘the ball hawk.’ Try to find the ball and go get the ball – that’s my main thing. More than that, just try to bring whatever it may be to the defense, whether it be tackling, or blitzing. . .”

The Bucs secondary has added many new players over the Bye Week outside of Edwards. They also brought in Troy Hill, who has a tendency to find the ball and create turnovers.

All in all, the Bucs secondary has every chance to produce now as a unit.

Bucs designate DB Jamel Dean to return from Injured Reserve

On Monday, the Bucs designated cornerback Jamel Dean to return from injured reserve.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been dealing with an unreliable secondary for weeks. General Manager Jason Licht made some moves to fix it, but the return of one starting corner could do the trick.

On Monday, the Bucs designated cornerback Jamel Dean to return from injured reserve. The designation begins his 21-day practice window today, and he is eligible to be activated at any time during the 21-day period.

Dean has played in six games this year for the Bucs and has totaled 43 tackles and four pass breakups in those games.

The secondary has surrendered over 400 yards per game this year, including 264 passing yards. The combo of Tykee Smith and Zyon McCollum has flashed but they need more. The return of Jamel Dean and the move to claim Mike Edwards could be what this team needs.

The secondary, at least, will have a simpler test coming off the Bye Week as they face either Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock after the Giants have benched Daniel Jones.

Titans release safety Mike Edwards

One week after signing, the Tennessee Titans released safety Mike Edwards.

The Tennessee Titans made another roster move on Wednesday, saying goodbye to a player they signed one week ago, safety Mike Edwards.

Signed after his release by the Buffalo Bills to potentially add some depth to the secondary after the loss of safety Quandre Diggs, Edwards was inactive against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10 and will now be searching for a new team.

Prior to signing with the Titans, the six-year veteran played in three games with the Bills in 2024, with just 20 snaps on defense and special teams and recording one tackle.

Originally a third-round draft choice by the Tampa Buccaneers in 2019, Edwards has played 78 games, including 28 starts, with the Bucs, Kansas City Chiefs, Bills and Titans.

The Titans will be back in the facility Thursday as they continue to prepare for their Week 11 battle with the Minnesota Vikings at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Titans’ Will Levis, Tyjae Spears practice in full, L’Jarius Sneed sits again

The Titans’ injury report after Thursday’s practice ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Chargers on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans have seen their fair share of injuries this season. The offensive line is in a shambles after losing Lloyd Cushenberry for the season. With Dillon Radunz also injured, it moved Daniel Brunskill to guard and Corey Levin became the center. Safety Quandre Diggs is also gone for the season, and for the umpteenth straight practice, L’Jarius Sneed continues to nurse a quad injury.

This week, though, the Titans are seeing progress with some of the nagging injuries players have been playing through. Will Levis was a full participant on Thursday, T’Vondre Sweat is not on the injury report, and Tyjae Spears practiced in full. There were a couple of new injuries, but only two players sat out of Thursday’s practice.

The Titans’ Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: CB L’Jarius Sneed (quad), RB Tony Pollard (foot)

Limited participants: WR Tyler Boyd (shoulder), S Amani Hooker (groin), DT Jeffery Simmons (hamstring), G Dillon Radunz (foot), RB Julius Chestnut (foot), TE Nick Vannett (neck)

Full participant: WR Calvin Ridley (shoulder), QB Will Levis (shoulder), S Mike Edwards (NIR-Rest), RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring), CB Tre Avery (hamstring)

Titans injury report: L’Jarius Sneed sits out again

The Tennessee Titans returned to the practice field Wednesday and released their first injury report for the week.

The Tennessee Titans are banged up as they prepare to take the field Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10 action. Prior to hitting the field to start preparations for this one, the Titans made a couple of injury-related roster moves.

The team officially placed center Lloyd Cushenberry (Achilles) and safety Quandre Diggs (foot) on injured reserve, likely ending their seasons. To fill one of the roster spots, the Titans signed veteran safety Mike Edwards, who was in Tennessee Wednesday for a physical.

Once they hit the field, eyes were on the players who sat out the Week 9 victory due to injury to see if there was any chance of a return to action. Unfortunately, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed continued to be sidelined with his quad injury. He was joined on the sideline by defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.

Quarterback Will Levis, guard Dillon Radunz, and running back Tony Pollard led the group of eight players that were limited, which included newly acquired safety Mike Edwards.

Cornerback Tre Avery returned as a full participant with his hamstring injury.

The Titans’ Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: CB L’Jarius Sneed (quad), Jeffery Simmons (NIR/rest)

Limited Participant: RB Tony Pollard (foot), WR Tyler Boyd (shoulder), WR Calvin Ridley (NIR/rest), S Armani Hooker (groin), G Dillon Radunz (foot), QB Will Levis (shoulder), RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring), S Mike Edwards (NIR/rest)

Full participants: CB Tre Avery (hamstring)

Report: Titans to sign former Bills safety Mike Edwards

The Tennessee Titans are in need of secondary depth and appear to be on the verge of signing former Buffalo Bills safety Mike Edwards.

The Tennessee Titans are banged up in the secondary. Starting cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is on the shelf with a quad injury, and after losing safety Quandre Diggs against the New England Patriots, they are in desperate need of reinforcements.

A day after adding cornerback Daryl Worley and defensive back Gervarrius Owens to the practice squad, word is coming out that they are in the process of signing veteran safety Mike Edwards to help fill the void left by Diggs’s injury.

Edwards does have some experience and is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He has spent time with Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Buffalo. In the midst of a disappointing 2024, where he has notched only seven snaps for the Bills, he was granted his release on Tuesday. In his career, he has seen action in 78 games with 28 starts during his six-year NFL career.

After losing Diggs to injury, the Titans’ depth at safety is thin with starter Amani Hooker, reserve Mike Brown and rookie Julius Wood after they released safety Jamal Adams in October.

The Titans (2-6) visit the Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

Bills grant Mike Edwards his release, barring a last-minute trade

Mike Edwards asked the Bills to release him and they will do so, barring a late trade before the deadline

Buffalo Bills safety Mike Edwards has only played seven defensive snaps this season, so he’s looking for an opportunity elsewhere. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Edwards has asked the Bills to release him and the team is granting him that.

Buffalo will waive the veteran safety unless the team is able to make a last-minute trade before the 4 p.m. ET deadline. So either way, Edwards’ tenure with the Bills is coming to an end.

After playing all 17 games and starting five last season with the Chiefs, Edwards signed with the Bills this offseason. His role has been non-existent, however, playing only three games and making just one tackle.
