Do the Warriors have enough trade assets to land a superstar?

Can the Golden State Warriors produce a competitive trade package to acquire an All-Star?

The Golden State Warriors are expected to be active during the offseason. Their elimination from the play-in tournament at the hands of the Sacramento Kings highlighted some of the shortcomings Steve Kerr’s roster must eliminate to get back to being a contending team.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. must decide if the Warriors will continue straddling two contention timelines or if the franchise needs to pick a direction and stick with it. If the front office chooses to double-down on the final stage of Steph Curry’s career, it may add another elite talent via trade.

However, in a recent episode of 97.5 The Game’s “The Morning Roast,” Joe Shasky questioned whether the Warriors have enough assets to get a superstar-level trade over the line. Any deal for a top-tier talent would likely cost multiple young players and draft picks.

Shasky shared his thoughts on the Warriors’ current trade assets and questioned whether they were enough to compete with some of the other teams in the NBA.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. spotted in France watching top prospect Zaccharie Risacher

The Warriors GM made the trip to France to see one of the top prospects in the upcoming NBA draft.

With the season coming to an end in the play-in tournament, the Golden State Warriors front office will turn its attention to the offseason with free agency and the NBA draft already looming.

Although they don’t have a pick in the first round, the Warriors are doing their research on some of the top prospects in the upcoming NBA draft.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. and other members of the Warriors front office were spotted in France in the crowd of one of Zaccharie Risacher’s games with JL Bourg. The 6-foot-10 French forward is widely considered one of the best players in the 2024 draft class.

Via @kevo408 on X:

Dunleavy Jr. saw Risacher and JL Bourg play against SLUC Nancy Basket in France’s LNB Pro A league. Risacher played 19 minutes, scoring 10 points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field. Risacher added eight boards and an assist with Dunleavy Jr. and the Warriors in the crowd.

The 19-year-old is averaging 10.1 points on 43.6% shooting from the field to go along with 3.9 rebounds in 31 games in the LNB Pro A League. Risacher has played 17 games in the EuroCup, averaging 13.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest.

The NBA draft is June 26

Warriors expected to find bigger role for Moses Moody

The Golden State Warriors are expected to find a bigger role for the impressive young wing next season.

Moses Moody has struggled to earn a consistent spot in the Golden State Warriors rotation. He played in 66 games for Steve Kerr’s team this season, averaging 8.1 points, 3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game on 46.2% shooting from the field and 36% shooting from 3-point range.

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. believes Moody’s struggles have been due to the Warriors’ depth in his position. He’s been fighting an uphill battle since the franchise acquired him with the 14th pick in the 2021 NBA draft. However, Dunleavy noted the front office and coaching staff will explore options to open additional playing time for Moody heading into next season.

“Yeah, I think the good and bad of the situation with Moses is, first he’s improved, he’s gotten a lot better, and on top of it, I think any issues with him playing, frankly, is a result of our depth, which is also a good thing,” Dunleavy Jr. said. “But in the end, you’re right, he hasn’t probably played as much as we would like and there hasn’t been a clear enough path. So that will be something we’ll look at. I think it’s really important coming into Year 4 for him that there is some reasonable playing time available for him where he can impact our team and be out there and continue to improve, and I think that’s a fair thing.”

Moody has shown flashes of his upside when given the opportunity to play consistent minutes. He could be the scoring punch the Warriors need off the bench. And he’s proven capable of stepping into the starting lineup when Kerr’s team is in a pinch.

If the Warriors are unable to find a legitimate role for Moody heading into next season, it will be interesting to see if they keep him around. After all, if he wants to reach his full potential, he needs to be on the court and experiencing all the different highs and lows the NBA provides. The front office has some tough decisions to make.

Warriors don’t have a needle-moving deal lined up: Report

The Golden State Warriors don’t currently have a trade lined-up that would improve their current roster.

After a difficult first half of the NBA season, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly searching for ways to upgrade their roster. Of course, that is easier said than done, considering the Warriors have multiple future first-ballot Hall of Fame talents on the team. As such, Mike Dunleavy Jr. has likely had a long and arduous process in trying to identify players that could make an immediate impact in Golden State.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who was speaking on a recent episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” the Warriors don’t have a needle-moving deal lined up ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.

“From what I’m told, there’s no mandate from Joe Lacob and the front office to shed salary,” Charania said. “I think for the Warriors right now, it’s a lot of wait and see. … As of right now, they just don’t have anything on the table that really moves the needle.”

At this time of year, trade discussions can move fast in the NBA. Golden State could have a breakthrough in negotiations with other teams around the league that would allow it to make a move and upgrade its current rotation.

However, the Warriors have looked vastly improved since Steve Kerr implemented his new-look frontcourt, with Andrew Wiggins also showing signs of snapping out of his slump. As such, the front office could choose to stand pat at the trade deadline and reevaluate the current roster during the summer.

Warriors insider shares details on Warriors trade deadline plans

Anthony Slater isn’t expecting any fireworks from the Golden State Warriors at the February 8 trade deadline.

With the Feb. 8 trade deadline just over a week away, time is running out for the Golden State Warriors to make a move. Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Joe Lacob could stand pat, considering the current energy levels and commitment on show from the Warriors roster, or they could look to improve on the margins.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater joined “The Morning Roast” on 95.7 The Game to discuss his knowledge of how the trade market is shaping up for the Warriors. Slater shared that Golden State is “tampering expectations.”

“They’re trapped a little bit,” Slater said. “First of all, even they’re 20-24. There is absolutely no incentive to tank. … We know the Warriors are not going to do that. … They might be active, although they’re kind of tampering expectations on that. There’s contracts to move, but I’m not sure what’s there that’s going to significant;y change their situation more than internal growth from the guys that were struggling.”

The Warriors have multiple young talents at their disposal. They also have Chris Paul‘s contract that will not be guaranteed next season. There are trade options available for the front office to explore.

However, Golden State could choose to stand pat. It may want to see how the team looks once everybody is healthy and is chasing playoff qualification throughout the second half of the season. If the season doesn’t work out, Dunleavy Jr. could look to make bigger changes in the summer.

Insider expects Steve Kerr to remain with Warriors beyond this season

Steve Kerr is expected to sign a new contract with the Golden State Warriors once his current deal expires in the summer.

Steve Kerr is in the final year of his current contract. The veteran coach has enjoyed significant success with the Golden State Warriors, leading them to four championships during his tenure with the team. However, there have been questions regarding whether Joe Lacob and Mike Dunleavy Jr. would retain Kerr moving forward.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, who was speaking to Michael Scotto on “The HoopsHype Podcast,” Kerr retains admirers within the franchise. As such, he will likely agree to a new deal with the Warriors and continue in his role as head coach for the foreseeable future.

“From all I gather, especially this last week to 10 days after the assistant coach passing away has reinforced what he means to them,” Slater said. “It’s so much more than an X’s and O’s level. The way he’s guided them through this, I still sense a desire from the leadership of the organization to keep Steve in the fold.”

Kerr has come under increasing pressure this season. The Warriors have struggled to find consistency on the court and look to be searching for an identity. However, given his previous success and his importance to the franchise over the past decade, he will likely be afforded time to get things back on track.

Golden State also have a decision to make regarding their current roster construction. Currently, they are straddling two timelines. If they want Kerr to deliver another championship, they may need to pick a lane in the coming months.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. explains why Warriors didn’t sign Dwight Howard after free agent workout

The eight-time All-Star center was one of the veterans the Warriors brought in for a workout during the summer.

Before training camp gets underway in October, the Golden State Warriors’ facility has been active with free-agent workouts. Along with multiple other veterans, eight-time All-Star center Dwight Howard reportedly made a trip to the Bay Area for a workout.

Despite reportedly working out with Chris Paul and Draymond Green, Howard left San Francisco without a contract. In a press conference with members of the media on Monday, new Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. explained why the Warriors didn’t ink Howard to a contract after his workout in the Bay Area.

Via @NBCSWarriors on Twitter:

I’d just say in general, we brought maybe 40 or 50 guys in this summer to get a further look at, knowing agents and people around the league knowing we’ve got two roster spots open, so there is a desire to come in, meet with us and play with our guys. And we’ve looked at a lot of different players. Some of them we’re bring into camp. But, The player you mentioned (Howard) is just one of many that we brought in and evaluated, and you know, I think right now you’ll know more about who we’re inviting to camp in a couple of days. But overall, we feel good about what we’ve done this summer and we’ll keep our options open in terms of who we need to add.

With the 37-year-old big man leaving Golden State without a deal, the Warriors are expected to feature Kevon Looney, Draymond Green, Dario Saric, Usman Garuba, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jonathan Kuminga in the frontcourt this season.

Warriors add veteran big man Dario Saric on one-year deal

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly inking Dario Saric to a one-year deal.

The Golden States Warriors continue to make changes ahead of the 2023-24 regular season, this time adding veteran big man Dario Saric into the fold. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Saric will join the Warriors one a one-year deal. This gives Golden State not only a bit of depth in the frontcourt, but a new shooting threat as well.

Saric missed the entire ’21-22 season while recovering from a torn ACL. Since then, he’s provided valuable support and spot stars with the Phoenix Suns and later the Oklahoma City Warriors. Importantly, even with limited minutes, Saric shot 39% from 3 last year and 51.5% from the field overall. As such, he can give head coach Steve Kerr another option in creating lineups that prioritize spacing and offense.

Via @wojespn on Twitter:

Newly minted Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has had a busy summer. Golden State has been able to preserve its core players, and instead have tinkered on the margins. Adding veterans like Saric and Chris Paul is a conservative way to support the Warriors in gearing up for another deep postseason run.

The Golden State Warriors are promoting Mike Dunleavy Jr. to serve as the team’s next general manager, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
