Panthers retain 13 assistant coaches, including entire defensive staff

Panthers DC Ejiro Evero will have his entire staff back for 2024.

The Carolina Panthers did more than just roll out the hirings of six new faces on Thursday. They also announced the returns of 13 familiar ones.

In addition to their additions, the team is retaining 13 assistant coaches—headlined by defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Evero will be joined back by his entire defensive staff.

The group is as follows:

  • Dom Capers (defensive assistant)
  • Todd Wash (defensive line coach)
  • Bert Watts (secondary/safeties coach)
  • Jonathan Cooley (secondary/cornerbacks coach)
  • Peter Hansen (inside linebackers coach)
  • Tem Lukabu (outside linebackers coach)
  • DeAngelo Hall (assistant defensive backs coach)
  • Mayur Chaudhari (defensive assistant)
  • Bobby Maffei (defensive quality control coach)

Carolina will also keep a few offensive minds in senior assistant Jim Caldwell and offensive assistant Mike Bercovici. Game management coordinator George Li will be staying on as well.

Along with Evero, the organization previously announced the hirings of their two new coordinators in Brad Idzik and Tracy Smith—who will lead the offense and special teams, respectively.

Mike Bercovici lands offensive assistant role with Panthers

Bercovici, a former offensive assistant for the Cardinals and former Arizona State quarterback, joins Frank Reich’s staff in Carolina.

Another of the Arizona Cardinals’ coaching staff in 2022 has found another job. The latest is Mike Bercovici. Reported first by The Athletic’s Joe Person, the Carolina Panthers hired Bercovici as an offensive assistant on head coach Frank Reich’s staff.

He joins receivers coach Shawn Jefferson as former Cardinals coaches on Carolina’s staff.

Bercovici joined Kliff Kingsbury’s staff in 2020 and was promoted to offensive assistant last season.

He also spent some time on Arizona’s practice squad. He went undrafted after playing collegiately at Arizona State.

Report: Cardinals adding Mike Bercovici to coaching staff

The offensive graduate assistant will reportedly join Kliff Kingsbury’s offensive staff. He spent about a month on the Cardinals’ practice squad in 2017.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a few additions to their coaching staff recently. There will be another reported addition.

According to Devils Digest, insiders to the Arizona State Sun Devils program, the Cardinals are adding Mike Bercovici to their coaching staff. Bercovici was an offensive graduate assistant at ASU as part of Herm Edwards’ coaching staff.

Bercovici played collegiately at Arizona State and spent about a month on the Cardinals’ practice squad in 2017.

There did not appear to be any vacancies on the Cardinals’ offensive staff. The Cardinals have not announced the change.

It is possible he has received the Bill Bidwill Coaching Fellowship, as that opened up with Don Shumpert getting promoted from the fellowship to a spot on the staff as an offensive assistant.

Bercovici likely would work with the quarterbacks. Tom Clements is currently the team’s passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Bercovici worked with Sun Devils quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was a standout freshman in 2019. Daniels has a similar skill set to Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
