Top-10 national recruit and 5-star guard Mikayla Blakes, makes an SEC commitment

Mikayla Blakes is heading to the SEC.

Mikayla Blakes made her college decision on Monday as the five-star guard committed to Vanderbilt.

She picked the Commodores from a final seven that also included Indiana, Rutgers, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and Wisconsin.

One of the top guards in the nation, Blakes is a 2024 recruit who is having a tremendous final season at Rutgers Prep (Somerset, New Jersey). She entered the weekend with a scoring average of 20.8 points per game.

A five-star according to ESPN, Blakes checks in as the tenth-best recruit in the nation in the 2024 class.

She made her commitment on Monday afternoon following school.

 

On the season, Vanderbilt is currently 17-3. They lost this weekend at Tennessee.

Blakes is a versatile and athletic guard. Besides being a strong scorer who can drive to the basket or shoot from distance, she is a tough defender who is aggressive off the ball.

She is the only Vanderbilt commit to make the ESPNW 100.

Top-10 recruit Mikayla Blakes, a five-star guard, will make her college commitment on Monday.

Blakes, a guard at Rutgers Prep (Somerset, New Jersey), is having a strong season. Through 11 games, Blakes is scoring at an average of 20.8 points per game.

A five-star according to ESPN, Blakes checks in as the tenth-best recruit in the nation in the 2024 class. She has moved up six spots in the national rankings since this summer as she has shown a well-rounded game.

In August, she announced a top seven that includes Indiana, Rutgers, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.

An impressive defender, Blakes is a complete guard prospect with good length as well as an offensive game that includes the ability to score with her back to the basket or using her considerable range.

She is the third-highest-ranked guard in the nation in the ESPN ratings.

 

Blakes will make her announcement at 3:15 p.m. ET at Rutgers Prep. It will be streamed live on SportsCenter Next.

Over the summer, Blakes was named the MVP of the prestigious Summer Classic at Rucker Park in New York City.

Mikayla Blakes, a five-star guard, will make her college commitment on Monday with Rutgers women’s basketball very much in the mix.

Ranked the No. 10 player in the class of 2024 by ESPN, Blakes is the highest-ranked recruit in New Jersey. She has a top seven that includes Indiana, Rutgers, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.

The Rutgers Prep (Somerset, New Jersey) standout is averaging 20.8 points per game along with 3.1 assists through 11 games played. Her ability to drive to the basket and score is impressive, but she also can post-up and has versatility with a good jump shot.

She is also an outstanding defender.

Blakes will make her commitment on Monday afternoon at her school.

 

Earlier this month, Rutgers landed a commitment from Kiyomi McMiller, a 5-foot-9 point guard from New Jersey.

Also ranked a five-star by ESPN, McMiller is the No. 22 player in the nation.

Were Blakes to commit to Rutgers, it would give Coquese Washington a truly elite backcourt for her rebuilding project. Only six other teams halve multiple players in the top 25 of the ESPN rankings (South Carolina, UConn, Duke, Texas, USC and Michigan).
