Middle Tennessee at Liberty odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Middle Tennessee at Liberty odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-5, 1-2 CUSA) and Liberty Flames (6-0, 4-0) meet Tuesday at Williams Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Middle Tennessee vs. Liberty odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Middle Tennessee covered the spread as a 3-point home favorite with a 31-23 win vs. the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs last Tuesday as the total (54) pushed. QB Nicholas Vattiato threw for 248 yards with 2 TDs and rushed for a score as the Blue Raiders snapped a 3-game losing skid.

Liberty covered as a 7-point favorite with a 31-13 win at the Jacksonville State Gamecocks last Tuesday as the Under (59.5) hit. RB Quinton Cooley rushed for 2 TDs as Liberty improved to 5-1 against the spread (ATS) on the season.

These teams have not played each other since Liberty covered as a 20-point home favorite with a 41-13 win as the Under (59.5) cashed Oct. 9, 2021.

Middle Tennessee at Liberty picks and predictions

Prediction

Liberty 41, Middle Tennessee 18

Moneyline

Liberty (-650) should have no trouble keeping its undefeated season alive vs. the 2-5 Blue Raiders. However, -650 is too much to lay on the Flames.

PASS. Lay the points and/or the total instead.

Against the spread

We saw this line open at -13 Sunday, and it has been creeping up ever since. While -13 obviously would’ve been a better play, Liberty should still cover -14.5 vs. this Middle Tennessee side which is just 2-5 ATS on the season.

Middle Tennessee had failed to cover in 4 straight games before covering last week and has not covered in back-to-back games this season. While 7 games is a small sample size, at least Liberty has shown that it can string together good performances, and the market is reflecting that.

BET LIBERTY -14.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Middle Tennessee is 113th in the nation in opponent points per game this season (34.8), while Liberty is tied for 16th with the Oregon State Beavers in points per game (35.3). This is the best offense that Middle Tennessee has faced all season, and Liberty should be able to score enough to help the Over hit.

BET OVER 56.5 (-110).

Jacksonville State at Middle Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Jacksonville State at Middle Tennessee odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks (4-1, 2-0 CUSA) and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (1-4, 0-1) meet Wednesday at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a Conference USA battle. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Jacksonville State vs. Middle Tennessee odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Gamecocks had a miraculous comeback in a 35-28 victory against Sam Houston State Thursday. Jacksonville State trailed 28-20 with just 1:11 left in regulation, but coach Rich Rodriguez’s team drove the length of the field, with QB Logan Smothers hitting WR Perry Carter for a 28-yard touchdown with 13 ticks left. Smothers then had a successful 2-point conversion pass to force OT, where he shined in the extra session.

The Blue Raiders were on the short end of a 31-10 loss at home at Western Kentucky in the CUSA opener on Thursday night. Not only is Middle Tennessee just 1-4 straight up, but it is also 1-4 against the spread (ATS). The Under has cashed in 3 of the past 4 games for MTSU.

Jacksonville State at Middle Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Jacksonville State 27, Middle Tennessee 24

Moneyline

JACKSONVILLE STATE (+146) is a decent play as a rather moderate underdog. The Gamecocks have just one setback, falling to Coastal Carolina on Sept. 9. It was also the team’s lone non-cover, too, as it is 3-1-1 ATS in 5 games.

Middle Tennessee is rather heavily favored for a team sitting at 1-4, but 2 of those setbacks are against SEC-ranked teams Alabama and Missouri, so the record looks a little worse than it is. The Blue Raiders also lost by 21 to Western Kentucky last week, and it has an 8-point loss to Colorado State, with the lone victory against FCS opponent Murray State.

The Gamecocks are on a roll, and brimming with conference after last week’s comeback OT win against the Bearkats.

Against the spread

JACKSONVILLE STATE +3.5 (-110) catching 3 and a hook is a decent play, especially if you just can’t bring yourself to play the road ‘dog straight up.

Middle Tennessee is just 1-4 ATS in 5 games this season, including 0-2 ATS at home. Jax State won and either covered or pushed last week at Sam Houston depending on when you placed your wager.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the lean, but be very careful.

The Under is a perfect 4-for-4 for Jacksonville State in games that ended in regulation. Middle Tennessee has cashed the Under in 3 of the past 4 games overall, and it has produced 23 or fewer points in all 4 games against FBS opponents this season.

Middle Tennessee at Alabama odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Middle Tennessee at Alabama odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders take on the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 1 of the college football season on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (SEC Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Middle Tennessee vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Middle Tennessee is a massive underdog in this game with good reason but it is coming off of an 8-5 season in Conference USA and a win in the Hawaii Bowl over San Diego State.

The Blue Raiders do return a passing attack that ranked 14th in the country in pass attempts per game (39.4). They also return DT Marley Cook and DE Zaylin Wood who combined for 13 sacks in 2022.

Expectations are always high for the Crimson Tide but this season they debut a brand new offense under new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. He comes over from Notre Dame after leading the Fighting Irish’s offense for the past 3 seasons. Alabama also has a new trigger man in QB Jalen Milroe following QB Bryce Young‘s departure as the 1st overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.

The 2022 season was a disappointment in the eyes of Alabama fans as it went 11-2 and failed to make the SEC Championship game. The Tide’s road should be easier this year as they host Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. Alabama is the No. 3 ranked team in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Middle Tennessee +39.5 (-110) | Alabama -39.5 (-110)

Middle Tennessee at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 45, Middle Tennessee 13

Moneyline

Even though Alabama should win this game easily on Saturday night, just AVOID wagering on the moneyline. Betting on a team at -10000 is just isn’t smart.

Against the spread

BET MIDDLE TENNESSEE +39.5 (-110)

I’m going to take the Blue Raiders getting that massive number on the road against the Crimson Tide. I said it earlier, Alabama is working out a completely new offense with a brand new signal caller and it is going to take a minute for them to gel. The Crimson Tide were only 6-6-1 ATS season.

Remember that Middle Tennessee brings back the bulk of their high-flying offense and should score enough in this game to keep it within margin.

Over/Under

BET OVER 51.5 (-110).

This is my favorite bet in this game. We know Alabama can run up the score in these games against early-season opponents but Middle Tennessee has a lot of trends in their favor as well. The Blue Raiders have hit the over in 4 of their last 6 road games and hit the over in 4 of their last 5 games overall. They also averaged 28.8 points per game last season.

It is not really worth me giving you the Alabama offensive numbers from last season because they are basically starting fresh this year.

Middle Tennessee at FAU odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Middle Tennessee at FAU odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (13-7, 6-3 C-USA) and No. 24 FAU Owls (19-1, 9-0) meet Thursday. Tip-off from FAU Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Middle Tennessee vs. FAU odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Blue Raiders roll into Thursday’s game with 4 consecutive wins and covers, while cashing the Under in 4 of the last 5 outings. Middle Tennessee is 21-7-2 ATS in the last 30 games against teams with a winning overall record, too.

The Owls attained a ranking in the Coaches Poll for the first time in school history this week. It has won 18 in a row overall dating back to its only loss at Ole Miss on Nov. 11. FAU is 14-3-1 ATS overall, the best winning percentage in the nation against the number.

Middle Tennessee at FAU picks and predictions

Prediction

FAU 73, Middle Tennessee 66

Moneyline

PASS.

FAU is too expensive to make a standalone wager. There’s absolutely no value in playing heavy favorites, even in a multi-team parlay.

Against the spread

MIDDLE TENNESSEE +8.5 (-105) is a solid play, as it should be able to keep this game within single digits. The Blue Raiders are hot lately, winning and covering the past 4.

FAU -8.5 (-115) has been chugging along, and it is having a historic season for a school without a rich basketball history. It faces a giant test agaisnt a MTSU team which has won 2 straight in the series, while covering each of the last 3 meetings.

Over/Under

OVER 135.5 (-110) is the lean in this Conference USA tilt.

The Over has connected in 5 of the last 7 games overall for the Owls, while hitting at a 7-3 clip in the last 10 games overall against teams with a winning overall record.

The Over is also 8-2 in the last 10 games for the Blue Raiders following a straight-up win, while going 5-2 in the last 7 following a cover.

Hawaii Bowl: Middle Tennessee State vs. San Diego State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Middle Tennessee State vs. San Diego State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (7-5) and San Diego State Aztecs (7-5) meet Saturday for the Hawaii Bowl. Kickoff at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu will be at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Middle Tennessee vs. San Diego State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Middle Tennessee went 3-0 (1-1-1 against the spread (ATS)) down the stretch to earn a bowl berth. A pass-heavy Blue Raiders offense found some rushing success over those 3 final games but still heads into the Hawaii Bowl ranked 31st in passing yards (267.2 per game) and 100th in rushing (123.9).

San Diego State is 5-2 (4-3 ATS) since Oct. 1. The Aztec offense swings the other way, toward a run-first-pass-when-needed framework. However, it’s the SDSU defense that stands out. The Aztecs have yielded just 335.4 yards per game (27th) and 20.2 points per game (20th).

Middle Tennessee vs. San Diego State picks and predictions

Prediction

San Diego State 31, Middle Tennessee  24

Moneyline

San Diego State is the clear and worthy favorite here. Coach Brady Hoke and company went to Hawaii and won last season and also won their bowl game last December (Frisco Bowl vs. UTSA).

However, the Aztecs are not available at a budget price. PASS.

Against the spread

Look for Middle Tennessee to have trouble blocking a solid SDSU rush. The Aztecs’ offense became more balanced and capable late in the season.

This line has steamed towards the Aztecs since it opened. Any leverage is likely out of reach although an SDSU play at -5.5 would be worth some partial-unit action if the spread starts to swing back the other way. If not, PASS.

Over/Under

The Over is 7-0 in the Blue Raiders’ last 7 games following a straight-up win, and it is 3-1 across SDSU’s last 4 games away from home.

The San Diego State defense is somewhat more gettable through the air. The Raiders Air Raid offense should be able to help spiral this one forth in the warm weather on the Big Island. A little bit of turnover-short field leverage can also be expected.

BACK THE OVER 48.5 (-111).

Middle Tennessee at UAB odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Middle Tennessee at UAB odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The UAB Blazers (2-2, 0-1 C-USA) welcome the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-2, 0-1) to Protective Stadium in Birmingham Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Middle Tennessee at UAB odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

UAB comes into this game following a 28-24 loss at Rice. It has home wins over Georgia Southern and Alabama A&M, while losing by 4 at Rice and 7 (21-14) at o Liberty.

Starting RB DeWayne McBride has been the most efficient Blazers player, totaling 521 rushing yards (a 6.9 yards-per-carry average) and 6 touchdowns. UAB averages 220.5 rushing yards per game.

As for Middle Tennessee, it lost in its opener to James Madison 44-7. It then went on a 3-game win streak, which included a 45-31 win at the then-No. 25 Miami Hurricanes 2 weeks ago. However, the Blue Raiders lost to visiting UTSA 45-30 last week.

The Blue Raiders are led by QB Chase Cunningham, who is in his 2nd season as the starter. He’s thrown for 1,368 yards and 8 touchdowns so far this season.

Middle Tennessee at UAB picks and predictions

Prediction

UAB 27, Middle Tennessee 24

Moneyline

PASS.

While Middle Tennessee did beat Miami, it also has some ugly losses that make it hard to trust in this battle. Expect UAB to win, especially at home, but at -380, I wouldn’t back it.

Against the spread

BET MIDDLE TENNESSEE +9.5 (-108).

Middle Tennessee played well against UTSA but just couldn’t convert on its forced turnovers.

The Blue Raiders have defended well against what the Blazers do best – run the ball. Middle Tennessee ranks 9th in the nation in opponents’ yards per rushing attempt at just 2.8.

It allows just 107.8 rushing yards per game. UAB, on the other hand, ranks 15th in rushing yards per game (220.5 per game as mentioned above). This battle – Blue Raiders rush defense vs. the Blazers running game – will be what wins the game, and against teams like Miami, the Blue Raiders’ defense held up.

With this being coach Bryant Vincent’s first season at UAB, he still doesn’t have a great track record and he hasn’t had his team impressive against competent opponents, which Middle Tennessee is.

The Blazers have only beaten an FCS side and a low-tier Sun Belt opponent. I’ll take the BLUE RAIDERS +9.5 (-108) to cover here.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 53.5 (-108).

The expectation is that Middle Tennessee throws UAB off its rhythm, and if that’s the case, the Blazers may not be able to hit its 33-points-per-game average.

UAB is also allowing just 17.5 points per game. The Blazers’ defensive strength is in the pass defense. They allow just 161.8 passing yards per game, which is Middle Tennessee’s strength.

Simply put, both teams defend their opposing offenses’ strength well. Considering that, I’ll take UNDER 52.5 (-108).

Middle Tennessee at Miami odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Middle Tennessee at Miami odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-1) will visit Hard Rock Stadium Saturday to face the Miami Hurricanes (2-1). Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (ACC Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Middle Tennessee vs. Miami odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes are coming off their 1st loss of the season in last weekend’s premier game against Texas A&M. They lost 17-9 after putting up 50 points per game through the first 2 weeks.

Miami is led by starting QB Tyler Van Dyke who was 21-for-41 for 217 yards, but no TDs against the Aggies. RB Jaylan Knighton and RB Henry Parrish Jr. split the load for the Miami backfield.

Middle Tennessee comes into this game on a 2-game win streak, taking down Colorado State 34-19 and Tennessee State 39-6. The Blue Raiders lost their season opener 44-7 to James Madison.

RB Frank Peasant has been the key for the Middle Tennessee offense, totaling 216 rushing yards in 3 games. He also has 5 rushing TDs.

Miami is No. 25 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Middle Tennessee at Miami picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 38, Middle Tennessee 10

Money line

PASS.

A -5000 favorite vs. a +1500 underdog doesn’t bode for an interesting money line play. Pass all around here.

Against the spread

LEAN MIDDLE TENNESSEE +28.5 (-110).

The Blue Raiders played both Virginia Tech and the Malik Willis-led Liberty Flames last season, losing neither by more than 28.5.

While they were destroyed by James Madison in their opener, QB Todd Centeio put on a clinic, and Van Dyke doesn’t seem like an aggressive passer.

The Hurricanes are going to be the better, more talented side, but they may not put Middle Tennessee away. They beat Southern Miss just 30-7 and was up only 10-7 at half.

Having lost to the Aggies on the road, Miami doesn’t have as dynamic of an attack as many think, especially given all 3 of its receivers are underclassmen.

Considering how the Blue Raiders have played since the blowout loss and how Miami hasn’t put away teams it has played, I’d back MIDDLE TENNESSEE +28.5 (-110) here.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 53.5 (-110).

The Hurricanes’ attack put 70 on Bethune-Cookman, but other than that, they haven’t looked overly impressive. Miami scored 30 on Southern Miss and just 7 on Texas A&M.

Against its best opponent, Middle Tennessee scored just 7, so it’s not practical to think its offense, which has put up 40 in 2 straight games, will be able to blast a Hurricanes defense that held the Aggies to under 20.

Both teams are 1-2 O/U this season.

Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Middle Tennessee vs. Colorado State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Blue Raiders traveled to James Madison last week and played a scoreless 1st quarter. Once the second quarter began, the wheels fell off. JMU outscored MTSU 21-0 in the 2nd and scored 37 unanswered points before the Blue Raiders final responded with a TD last in the 3rd quarter. The Dukes rolled to the 44-7 victory in their FBS debut.

The Rams’ road trip to Michigan went about as well as the Blue Raiders’ road trip did. Colorado State was trampled 51-7 in the Big House as it turned the ball over 2 for a minus-2 turnover margin and was sacked 7 times in the rout.

Middle Tennessee at Colorado State picks and predictions

Prediction

Colorado State 31, Middle Tennessee 24

Money line

Colorado State (-420) will cost you more than 4 times your potential return. In no way, shape or form did it show anything in Michigan last weekend which would warrant such a wager.

AVOID.

Against the spread

MIDDLE TENNESSEE +11.5 (-112) was a disaster last week at James Madison, but so was Colorado State in Michigan. The Rams have no business laying double digits to anybody.

The Blue Raiders will be much better, and so will the Rams. In fact, this game should be a pretty entertaining affair, as these teams who were embarrassed last week fight for their first victory of the season.

Over/Under

UNDER 58.5 (-112) is the lean here, as both teams scored just 7 points in their road trip losses last week.

The Under is 13-6-1 in the past 20 games in September for Middle Tennessee, while the Under is 4-0 in the last 4 September games for Colorado State. In addition, the Under has hit in 4 straight non-conference outings for the Rams, while going 8-1 in their last 9 against teams with a losing record.

Middle Tennessee at UConn odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at UConn Huskies odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-4) and UConn Huskies (1-7) meet Friday for a 6 p.m. ET game at Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut. Below, we look at the Middle Tennessee vs. UConn odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Middle Tennessee heads on the road after a bye week and four losses in its last five games. The Blue Raiders scored less than 15 points in three of those losses.

On the season, MTSU ranks 113th in FBS in total offense (328.8 yards per game). The Raiders are 0-4 on the road this season; they are 3-13 over their last 16 games away from home, dating back to 2018.

The Huskies snapped a seven-game skid to open the season with a 21-15 win over the Yale Bulldogs last Saturday. Things got interesting late after Connecticut had worked itself to a 21-0 lead by the 11:15-mark of the third quarter.

But, the Huskies hung on for their first victory since Oct. 26, 2019 (UConn did not play in 2020). A Huskies team which was a minus-7 in turnovers going into the contest was a plus-4 against a Yale squad that threw four picks.

Middle Tennessee at UConn odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Middle Tennessee 35, UConn 24

Money line

AVOID at the current tag, but keep an eye on this price. UConn is the lean, and with two shaky teams tangling in the unusual time slot, a +500 should make for some interest on the Huskies side.

Against the spread

Both teams are ranked outside the top-100 on both sides of the ball. Middle Tennessee has results buoyed by turnovers: the Raiders are a plus-10 in turnovers overall.

The Huskies have a couple results under their belt — recent ones — that bode well for bettors seeing them as undervalued by their overall record. UConn’s two-point losses to Wyoming (Sept. 25) and Vanderbilt (Oct. 2) stand out as examples of the Huskies’ better days and ones not artificially propped up by turnovers.

MTSU is 0-4 (0-3-1 ATS) over its last four road games.

BACK THE HUSKIES +15.5 (-112).

Over/Under

A lot of mixed signals in how this one plays out. PASS.

Middle Tennessee at Charlotte odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Middle Tennessee at Charlotte odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (1-2) visit the Charlotte 49ers (2-1) in a Conference USA tussle at Jerry Richardson Stadium Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Middle Tennessee vs. Charlotte odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Middle Tennessee is coming off a 27-13 loss to Texas-San Antonio. The Blue Raiders had just 8 rushing yards and 11 first downs in that contest. A struggling MTU’s lone win was against FCS Monmouth Sept. 4.

Perhaps some solace for that iffy Middle Tennessee run game, one ranked 128th in FBS with 56.7 yards per game, is that Charlotte ranks 128th in run defense (270.7 YPG). The 49ers are coming off a 20-9 loss against Georgia State. GSU had more rushing yards in that game (284) than Charlotte had total yards (276).

Middle Tennessee at Charlotte odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Middle Tennessee 27, Charlotte 24

Money line

BACK THE BLUE RAIDERS (+122).

These two foes didn’t play each other last fall due to a COVID-19 cancelation. Charlotte downed Middle Tennessee, 34-20, in 2019. So, MTU is in a revenge spot here. Since 2017, head coach Rick Stockstill’s Blue Raider teams have gone 7-1 against the spread in next-year revenge opportunities. This chance comes two years out.

The Raiders are not a good offensive team and are making a quarterback change this week, with junior QB Chase Cunningham taking the reins. Cunningham has appeared in all three games this year, passing for 259 yards and 3 touchdowns while completing 63.3% of his pass attempts.

Perhaps, that offense clicks more, but it’s the MTU defense worth the play in this contest. The Raiders have done well to force plenty of three-and-outs while limiting big plays and red-zone punch-ins.

Figure on Middle Tennessee hanging around in a low-scoring game and having a legitimate shot at a straight-up victory on the road.

Against the spread

PASS here unless a fair tag for MTSU +3 avails itself.

Over/Under

Both teams could struggle to sustain drives Friday. Both have filed impressive performances in stifling drives in their own end. The 49ers defense has cranked out 2.3 sacks per game and could present a hassle for new-to-the-party Cunningham.

TAKE THE UNDER 56.5 (-115).
