Michigan vs Indiana Game Preview

Why Michigan Will Win

The Wolverines haven’t been sensational over the last two weeks, but they’ve been effective enough in wins over Maryland and Iowa.

Yeah, it would’ve been nice if they made it easier on themselves against the Terps, and it was more businesslike than anything else against the Hawkeyes,  but they’re playing well.

More than anything else for this game, they’re not making mistakes. For Indiana to have any hope of pulling this off it needs an implosion.

Michigan has only turned it over twice, penalties haven’t been any sort of a problem, and slow and steady and careful can work here, too.

Run, keep running, and get out with a win.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Indiana Will Win

Indiana has to pass, keep passing, and it has to keep the pressure on the Wolverine secondary.

Taulia Tagovailoa is the only good quarterback the Michigan D faced so far, and he came up with a strong 269-yard, two-touchdown day in Maryland’s loss.

No, Iowa didn’t pose any real threat, but the passing game clicked late, and in this, Indiana’s Connor Bazelak has to be good right away. He might not be all that accurate, and he’ll give away a pick or two, but he’ll push the ball deep and has to keep on trying.

The more the O can make Michigan open it up, the better the chances. However …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Again, Michigan is going to be steady and no sensational.

IU won’t be able to do anything on the ground, and Bazelak will misfire too much. He has to complete close to 65% of his passes, and he’ll be closer to 55%.

Michigan will grind with the running game, it’ll have the ball for 35 minutes, and it’ll get out with a win.

There’s nothing boring about 6-0.

Michigan vs Indiana Game Preview, Big Ten Conference Tournament

Why Michigan Will Win

And now things are back to normal.

Head coach Juwan Howard is back, the team is coming off a win over Ohio State to ruin Senior Day in Columbus, and now the season really starts.

The team isn’t playing all that poorly overall. The losses over the last several weeks have been against the Big Ten elite, but the offense is still working it around well and it’s still scoring efficiently, and this remains one of the Big Ten’s but rebounding teams.

Indiana has fallen off the map. It went 2-7 in February and can’t seem to win if it’s not hitting 50% of its shots. However …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Indiana Will Win

Indiana 18-3 when it hits 42% or better from the field, and Michigan’s defense allows teams to hit 45% of their shots.

Even in the wins the Wolverine defense is struggling to stop teams from getting easy baskets and it’s not doing a thing to stop the three.

Indiana might not have a high-powered attack and doesn’t take a lot of threes, but if it can just generate a few easy baskets and get on the move early, it’s got a shot to start its season over and go on a decent run.

It’s got the defense to hold up and keep the flaky Wolverines from going off, but …

Can Michigan hit its free throws?

Forgetting that Indiana made all ten of its free throws its last game against Purdue, it struggles on the line. Michigan won the first and only meeting between the two teams back in late January because it was unstoppable fro three and idd just about everything right.

It was also one of Michigan’s best defensive performances of the season in the 80-62 win.

Indiana’s defense will keep this really, really close, and the offense will have its chances down the stretch, but the mediocre free throw shooting will prove costly.

Michigan vs Indiana Game Preview

Why Indiana Will Win

Indiana has to keep up the offensive balance from last week.

It’s been a long and disappointing season that has fallen off a cliff with four straight losses and an 0-5 run in the Big Ten, but the Hoosiers were able to move the ball in the 38-35 loss to Maryland.

The ground game finally showed some life, freshman Donaven McCulley threw for 242 yards and two scores, and the team started to look the like everyone was hoping for two months ago.

If there was ever a time to catch Michigan on a lull, this would be it.

It’s coming off of the gut-punch of a loss to Michigan State, it has a road trip to Penn State follow, and again, it’s all about whether or not Indiana can be versatile with an offense that needs to keep up the pace with what’s coming.

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 10

Why Michigan Will Win

Obviously it’s not as simple as Indiana just being balanced on offense or getting the running game going just because it wants to, but it really did come up with one of its sharpest and strongest offensive games of the season last week …

And lost.

Michigan’s lines should dominate this.

You don’t think this D is embarrassed by letting Kenneth Walker get into the Heisman race?

Michigan’s defense is strong at getting off the field, the offensive line isn’t allowing much of anything to happen in the backfield, and it all should work against an IU team that doesn’t generate enough pressure on defense and can’t come up with enough of a steady push on the other.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 9

What’s Going To Happen

Michigan is going to try to beat Michigan State on the first few drives.

Can Indiana withstand the early burst, and can it get to midway through the second quarter with a few points on the board and still in range of making this interesting?

Nah.

Michigan will get its running game groove back, the O will get up quickly, and this should be done and over by the early fourth quarter.

Why Michigan Will Win

If you want the working definition of a sports team leaking oil, welcome to the Indiana Hoosiers.

They were struggling throughout the middle of the Big Ten season with no consistency and too many moments when they teased fans that they were on the verge of being okay, and then came the last four games. They rolled Minnesota, but they lost three of the four including a disastrous performance against Rutgers.

Michigan is playing like the best team in college basketball. It’s hitting everything from the field, it’s air-tight when it comes to giving away mistakes and letting teams get in games, and it’s been able to push through a long break to get back up to speed in a hurry.

Why Indiana Will Win

As bad as this might seem as a positive, there are no expectations whatsoever.

Indiana has crashed so hard over the last few games, and Michigan is playing so well, there’s no one will be predicting much of anything out of a team that’s supposed to get blasted.

What is it doing right? It might not be consistent, but it hasn’t been horrible from three, the team comes up with a ton of assists, and it’s doing a great job of getting to the free throw line, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Indiana has inconsistency and issues on the free throw line, too – it takes them, it just doesn’t make enough of them. Against Michigan, IU has to make everything.

That’s the frustrating thing about these Hoosiers. There’s just enough there to scramble and be competitive like it was in an overtime loss to Illinois and a win over Iowa, but everything has to be perfect to beat a Michigan team that’s rolling. That’s not going to happen.

Michigan (1-1) vs Indiana (2-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Michigan Will Win

The Indiana offense still isn’t working quite like it’s supposed to.

It only gained 211 yards in the win over Penn State – most of them coming after 58 minutes of regulation – and the running game didn’t crush like it should’ve against Rutgers.

Joe Milton really is playing well for the Wolverines, throwing for 525 yards and a touchdowns and running for 111 yards and a score in the two games. The running game wasn’t great, but it wasn’t a disaster, the passing game was solid down the field, and there weren’t any turnovers against Michigan State. So what was the problem?

The team has been operating with a quicker tempo, Michigan State kept producing on its key plays, and the time of possession battle was massively skewed. Indiana might be 2-0, but it’s beyond awful on third downs – converting a Big Ten low 26%.

Michigan will have an easier time getting off the field.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

Why Indiana Will Win

Do you care about momentum?

Indiana might be a shaky 2-0, but it’s 2-0. It found a way to pull off the upset over Penn State, and got past an okay effort against Rutgers to win.

It’s owning the turnover battle, it’s converting drives into points without fail, and even thought the offense is sputtering a bit too much, it’s still dangerous.

The backfield combination of QB Michael Penix and RB Stevie Scott really is good, the defense has been good enough, and it’s getting a Michigan team that’s about to press in a pressure-filled must-win moment to turn its season around.

But …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

You never, ever, ever, ever, ever mess with a streak.

You think Ohio State has a hex over Michigan? That’s nothing like what Michigan has over Indiana.

The Wolverines have won 24 straight in the series and 39 of its last 40, with the only loss coming all the way back in 1987.

Michigan will convert on its third down chances, Indiana won’t, and this will look a whole lot more like the Minnesota game for Jim Harbaugh’s team than the Michigan State whiff.
