Celebrate Michigan State getting through the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament and gear up for the Sweet 16 matchup with Kansas State.

Michigan State is rolling through the NCAA tournament as another overachieving underdog and Spartan fans are loving it.

The No. 7 seeded Michigan State handled business in their opening matchup against USC to the tune of a 72-62 win. Then came the bracket-busting.

The Spartans took their strong defensive effort from their win over the Trojans to upset the No. 2 seeded team in Marquette. It was a 69-60 second-round win.

The first weekend victories have propelled the Spartans into the program’s first Sweet 16 since 2019.

There’s only one proper way to celebrate.

Michigan State, Marquette most watched game of NCAA Tournament opening weekend

MSU and Marquette had a lot of eyes on their game on Sunday

Michigan State had about the best weekend you could possibly have to open an NCAA Tournament. The Spartans knocked off the No. 10 seed USC to open the weekend, and followed it up with an encore of defeating the No. 2 seed Marquette to move on to the Sweet 16.

MSU and Marquette’s game was featured on the primetime 5:15 p.m. EST slot on Sunday afternoon, and it was a hit with fans across the sport. The game between the Spartans and Golden Eagles was the most watched game of the first weekend drawing 10.9 million viewers.

Tyson Walker’s second-half dunk was first of his career

Tyson Walker had a career first in MSU’s Sweet 16 clinching victory on Sunday:

Michigan State is headed back to the Sweet 16 following the Spartans’ 69-60 victory over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday. Tyson Walker led the way for Michigan State, scoring 23 points. Walker also capped the Spartans’ Sweet 16 clinching performance with a huge steal that he turned into a monster slam on the other end.

Following the game, Walker revealed it was the first in-game dunk of his career:

Joey Hauser emotional about fans chanting his name as Spartans close out win

Joey Hauser was emotional after fans started chanting his name as the Spartans closed out the win over Marquette:

Michigan State is heading back to the Sweet 16 after defeating the No. 2 seed Marquette Golden Eagles, 69-60. It was an emotional win for the Spartans, a team that has had a roller-coaster season, and a deserving victory.

A star of the game was Joey Hauser, who logged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Hauser is finishing his career in the green and white at the top of the mountain after he was criticized by fans for most of his career. The way his journey has gone, hearing Spartan fans chant his name as the Spartans closed out the victory was glorious.

Michigan State is heading back to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans defeated Marquette, 69-60 in Columbus on Sunday to head to the Sweet 16.

Tyson Walker (23 points) put the team on his back, while Joey Hauser (14 points, 10 rebounds) had a double-double against his former school. Mady Sissoko also had a stellar performance for the Spartans, posting 8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Michigan State took down USC in the round of 64 to move on in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Now, the Spartans square off with the No. 2 seed Marquette Golden Eagles.

Marquette is standing in the way of a Sweet 16 appearance for MSU and a continuation of the Spartans’ run through March in Tom Izzo’s 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Golden Eagles have a potent offense that can get hot quickly and score at will. They will be a tough challenge for Michigan State’s defense.

Michigan State is moving on to the round of 32, and takes on the No. 2 seed, the Marquette Golden Eagles. The two teams take the floor at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on Sunday.

The Spartans and Golden Eagles have met once: MSU won, 79-68, on Nov. 28, 2014.

MSU has their round of 32 opponent

Michigan State knocked off USC, 72-62, on Friday afternoon to move on to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Now, it has an opponent.

The Spartans will take on the Big East’s Marquette Golden Eagles, who are the No. 2 seed. They defeated the 15th-seeded Vermont Catamounts, 78-61.

The game will tip off at 5:15 p.m. ET on CBS.
