How to buy Michigan Wolverines vs Michigan State Spartans football tickets

Want to watch the Michigan Wolverines vs Michigan State Spartans in person on Saturday, Oct. 26? Tickets still remain for as little as $103.

College football rivalries do not get much better than this weekend’s matchup between when the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans meet up in the Big House for a Big Ten battle.

Tickets are still available for one of the most anticipated matchups of the fall, so if you are looking to get in on the live action in Ann Arbor, here are the details you need to know.

The Wolverines have experienced a post-championship hangover this season, dropping out of the US LBM Coaches Poll top 25 last week after a road loss at the Washington Huskies dropped them to 4-3 overall in 2024. Just 2-2 in conference play, UM really needs a win this weekend.

The Spartans have put up the exact same records but the lack of inertia from last season has them well outside of the Coaches Poll vote. MSU did manage to snap a three-game losing streak last Saturday with a win over the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Michigan Wolverines will host Michigan State Spartans on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Michigan State hosts Florida Atlantic in what should be close Week 1 matchup

College Sports Wire has a score prediction for the Michigan State Spartans and Florida Atlantic Owls.

The first college football game of the season for both the Florida Atlantic Owls and Michigan State Spartans will take place on Friday. The two teams are playing for the first time since they met back in 2021, when Michigan State won 44-0. Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan will be the host of this Friday night affair.

Fans on Big Ten Network will be treated to a game featuring two teams with a bunch of unknowns. Florida Atlantic finished the season last year in 9th place in the AAC. The Owls went 4-8 and fell in their season finale to the Rice Owls. Michigan State was also 4-8 a season ago. The Spartans finished 6th in the Big Ten East and did not score in their final loss at home to Penn State. The hope for 2024 is a season of improvement for both squads.

Spartans led by Jonathan Smith

The Spartans are led by head coach Jonathan Smith. He will start four transfers on the offensive side. One of them is quarterback Aidan Chiles. Chiles played at Oregon State before transferring to East Lansing. He should give Michigan State some much-needed athleticism at the position.

Jack Velling is another transfer and should be a big-body target for Chiles in the passing game. On defense, the Spartans are projected to start five transfers. Nine of the 22 starters for the Spartans coming into the season fresh will certainly make things interesting for Michigan State.

Nate Carter is the top returning skill player on offense. He carried it 185 times for 798 yards and 4 touchdowns. His backup Jalen Berger transferred to UCLA for the 2024 season. Montorie Foster Jr and Jaron Glover return in the receiving core for the Spartans. They combined for over 800 yards receiving a season ago, so look for them to be involved early and often in the Spartans offense.

New look Owls in 2024

Tom Herman is looking to build and build quickly in Boca Raton. He has six projected starters out of the transfer portal. Both his quarterback and running back are new to the program. Cam Fancher is behind center. He played from 2021-2023 at Marshall. He tossed 10 touchdowns in 2022 and 11 in 2023 but has been marred with interceptions, including 17 in two seasons.

George Johnson III is the lead running back. He joined the Owls in January after playing at UMass and graduating with a Communications degree. He will take over for Zuberi Mobley, who will start as the 2024 backup. All three of the receivers for Florida Atlantic are new to the program. EJ Horton, Marlyn Johnson and Milan Tucker will get the load to start the season.

Florida Atlantic Owls vs. Michigan State Spartans Score Prediction

This is not going to be a cakewalk for the Spartans. Coach Herman has plans to be competitive, and do it this season. While the Spartans should win the game, the Owls from AAC will compete from start to finish.

College Sports Wire final score prediction for this game is the Michigan State Spartans 24-20 over the Florida Atlantic Owls.

Jalen Berger through the years.

The UCLA Bruins football program added a commitment from Jalen Berger. The running back spent two years at Wisconsin and Michigan State before coming to Westwood, and he adds talent to the backfield for DeShaun Foster’s team.

His best season came in 2022 with the Spartans before a rough 023 campaign, and Jonathan Smith being hired as head coach sent Berger back into the transfer portal once again.

Here are some photos from Berger’s time at both Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Junior defensive lineman Tunmise Adeleye recently transferred from Michigan State to Texas State. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound pass rusher graduated in 2021 from Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. He was rated a 5-star recruit by Rivals and a 4-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN.

Adeleye redshirted in College Station during his true freshman season. As a sophomore, he started in the first two games of the campaign and played in three total contests for the Aggies and former coach Jimbo Fisher.

On Sept. 3, 2022, Adeleye made his collegiate debut against Sam Houston, recording 1 tackle. He tallied 5 tackles (4 solo) and 3 quarterback hits the following week versus Appalachian State. Adeleye also made an appearance on Oct. 22 at South Carolina.

Adeleye played in six games for the Spartans during the 2023 season. He racked up 9 tackles (4 solo), 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. The redshirt junior has two years of eligibility remaining.

Former Texas A&M senior CB Tony Grimes flips commitment from Michigan State to UNLV

Then on Sunday, he announced via X that he would be “coming to the West Coast soon,” and has committed to play at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

2020 5-star prospect Tony Grimes has flipped from his initial decision in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The former Texas A&M senior cornerback entered the portal on New Year’s Day after spending a year in Bryan-College Station. Before choosing the Aggies in the portal, he spent three years in Chapel Hill, North Carolina playing for the Tarheels.

Grimes initially chose Michigan State as his next destination on Jan. 7. However, on Saturday he posted a video on X that alluded to his upcoming decision to flip from the Spartans.

USC-Michigan State will finally build a fuller history after many missed connections

If you look at the histories of USC and Michigan State, you’ll see that the two schools weren’t able to meet when both sides were great.

The USC Trojans and Michigan State Spartans should have a longer and fuller football history, but they don’t.

USC won’t play Michigan State on the gridiron until 2025. The series is tied at 4-4 all-time. The last meeting between these two teams was back in the 1990 Sun Bowl with the Spartans winning by one point in El Paso.

It is surprising to realize these teams haven’t met in 33 years, and never did meet before 1963.

Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports offers this note about the series:

“Not counting Maryland, the Spartans are the only Big Ten team with a non-losing record against the Trojans. The four wins include the 1988 Rose Bowl and a 17-7 win on Oct. 3, 1964, against the then-No. 2 ranked Trojans.”

About that 1964 game: Michigan State wasn’t an especially strong team that year, and neither were the Trojans, who lost two of their next four games after that loss to MSU. They finished 7-3, a very ordinary and unexceptional season by Trojan standards, despite their historic upset of No. 1 Notre Dame in the season finale.

Michigan State-USC in football is a series of missed connections. USC won the national title in 1962. Michigan State finished in the top two of the polls in 1965 and 1966, then struggled in 1967. Yet, the two teams met in 1963 and 1964, when neither side was particularly strong. They met in 1967 one year after Duffy Daugherty produced his best team ever in East Lansing.

USC had great teams in the early and late 1930s under program patriarch Howard Jones. Michigan State fielded great teams in the mid-1930s, from 1934-1937, when USC was not at its peak.

USC made several Rose Bowls in the mid-1940s under Jeff Cravath, but Michigan State’s best four-year run as a program came from 1950-1953 under Biggie Munn, Daugherty’s predecessor as MSU head coach.

Even when the two programs were generally good, something happened to take away a little bit of the luster of the occasion. Michigan State’s 1978 team was ineligible for the Rose Bowl, so it didn’t earn a rematch of a regular season loss to USC that season. In the 1987 season, the two teams met in the Rose Bowl at long last, but USC was not uniquely powerful that year. The Pac-10 had a down year and the Trojans were the best of the lot.

USC was tremendous, as we all know, during the Pete Carroll era in the 2000s. When Carroll left, Michigan State became great under Mark Dantonio in the 2010s. These schools simply haven’t been able to be great at the same time, and meet in a bowl game under such circumstances.

We will see how the histories of these programs change in the Big Ten.
