Believe it or not, Michigan State was not that close to the cut line for making the NCAA Tournament

Believe it or not, Michigan State was not that close to the cut line for making the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan State ended up as the No. 33 overall team which comes out as the top No. 9 seed. The Spartans will face the No. 32 overall seed Mississippi State in their first round matchup on Thursday.

ESPN Bracketology: MSU basketball still in position to make NCAA Tournament

Despite a recent brutal stretch to end the regular season, MSU is still in a position to reach the NCAA Tournament

Despite a recent brutal stretch to end the regular season, Michigan State is still in a position to reach the NCAA Tournament, according to Joe Lunardi of ESPN.

The Spartans lost four of their final five regular season games — three of which as favorites — and find themselves back on the NCAA Tournament bubble entering the Big Ten Tournament. But Lunardi still apparently feels good about the Spartans’ chances of making the NCAA Tournament.

Lunardi has Michigan State as a No. 9 seed and still a few seed lines above the final four teams in the field of 68. This would suggest that Michigan State would lock up a spot in the NCAA Tournament with a win over Minnesota on Thursday. Even with a loss, Michigan State may still be able to get into the field with a loss to the Golden Gophers too.
