Michigan State alum Ryan Brehm wins PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open

Michigan State alumnus Ryan Brehm is a PGA Tour champion!

Ryan Brehm is a PGA Tour champion, the Michigan State alumnus has won the Puerto Rico Open. The Puerto Rico Open was the PGA Tour’s alternative event this week. The tournament taking place at the Grand Reserve Country Club (Old) located in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico.

Brehm is a native of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and attended and played golf at Michigan State where he led the Spartans to three Big Ten Championships. After turning professional in 2008, Brehm has competed on various tours including the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour (formerly known as the Web.com Tour). Brehm was a two-time winner on the Korn Ferry Tour.

This is Brehm’s first win on the PGA Tour and will provide him with a lot of exemptions to play on the tour over the next two seasons.

Now that’s a real Spartan Dawg! On Sunday, Michigan State golfer James Piot won the 2021 U.S. Amateur Championship at the Oakmont Country Club in Bandon, Oregon. The victory, which was the No. 121 of it’s kind, will earn Piot an entry into the Master’s, US Open and Open Championship.

In dramatic fashion, Piot had to overcome a 3-stroke lead from North Carolina’s Austin Greaser to win the gold.

Michigan State men’s golfer James Piot will play for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Sunday.

Piot advanced in the semifinals on Saturday, and will battle North Carolina’s Austin Greaser in 36-hole final round on Sunday. The match begins Sunday morning, with the second half televised by Golf Channel and NBC.

For reaching the U.S. Amateur Championship final, Piot has qualified for the 2022 U.S. Open and most likely the 2022 Masters. Should be beat Greaser on Sunday, he would also qualify for the 2022 British Open.

Michigan State’s James Piot will be the lone Spartan heading to the NCAA championships after a strong performance in the regional.

Michigan State Men’s golf senior James Piot will be heading to the NCAA championships. On Wednesday, Piot shot a 2-under-par 68 for the second straight round to finish the NCAA Kingston Springs regional to finish the tournament 5-under-par 208 (72-68-68), which tied him for fourth place at the Golf Club of Tennessee.

Piot was able to claim the lone individual bid in the Regional with his efforts due to the fact that he was the top finisher who also wasn’t on a team already advancing to the NCAA championships.
