ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported earlier this week that Indiana starting right guard Nick Kidwell suffered a season-ending knee injury. Kidwell started 34 games for James Madison and followed new coach Curt Cignetti to Indiana via the transfer portal this offseason.

Michigan State football hosts Indiana late in the season this year, with the Hoosiers coming to Spartan Stadium on November 2.

MSU lands near bottom of Until Saturday podcast’s Big Ten preseason power rankings

The Until Saturday podcast crew is not particularly high on the Spartans in 2024

The Until Saturday podcast crew is not particularly high on the Spartans in 2024.

Like many, the Until Saturday podcast team recently did a show that previewed the upcoming Big Ten season. The team of three, led by Michigan State alum Chris Vannini, did a snake draft to rank the top teams in the Big Ten. To no surprise, Michigan State was near the bottom of the league — coming in at No. 13.

The trio agreed that new head coach Jonathan Smith was a great hire for the Spartans but have concerns about immediate success this upcoming season. They also pointed out the schedule having some challenges, especially the middle four-game stretch that consists of games against Ohio State, Oregon, Iowa and Michigan.

Michigan State was ahead of Maryland, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana and Purdue in the power rankings. Click on the link below to listen to the full podcast from Until Saturday:

Athlon Sports picked Michigan State football to finish near the bottom of the Big Ten.

Here’s a bit of what Steven Lassan had to say about Michigan State:

“Jonathan Smith is a strong hire for Michigan State and brings a style of play from Oregon State that should fit well into the Big Ten and overall potential of this program. However, the debut season from Smith could be challenging.”

Michigan State was ahead of the following Big Ten peers in the rankings: Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana, Illinois and UCLA.
