MSU football will reportedly have another streaming only game this season

Two of the Spartans first five games will only be available to watch via streaming

Two of the Spartans’ first five games will only be available to watch via streaming.

Brett McMurphy of the Action Network is reporting that Michigan State’s first road game of the year at Iowa will be on Peacock streaming — which is only available through the Peacock app. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET.

This marks the second known streaming-only game for the Spartans this upcoming season, with Michigan State’s marquee home non-conference tilt against Washington also on Peacock. That’ll be two games in a three week stretch of streaming-only games for the Spartans.

MSU WR Tre Mosley picks up high praise from head coach Mel Tucker

Tre Mosley has earned high praise from head coach Mel Tucker during preseason fall camp

Michigan State’s leading returning wide receiver has picked up some high praise from Mel Tucker.

Tre Mosley was recently singled out by Tucker during media availability where he stated Mosley will surprise some people this year. Check out the complete quote from Tucker below:

With Jayden Reed and Keon Coleman gone from last year’s team, Mosley is the only returning wide receiver with substantial playing time and production. Each of the last two seasons he recorded 35 catches for a total of 889 yards and seven touchdowns.

Mosley will be expected to step up this fall so this is promising to hear from Tucker. Hopefully, this high praise will be realized and seen on the field when the Spartans open the season on Sept. 1 against Central Michigan.

Hear what Michigan State defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton had to say about his defense when meeting with the media earlier this week

Michigan State is in the midst of fall camp with the Spartans preparing for the upcoming 2023 season.

As part of practice picking back up, regular media sessions with players and coaches have begun as well. That included defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton on Wednesday.

Hear what Hazelton had to say about his Michigan State defense as he looks to continue last year’s late season momentum on that side of the ball this fall:

Sabin: Michigan football presented a challenge. Can Michigan State football meet it?

Rainer Sabin of the Detroit Free Press examines the challenge Michigan State has ahead of itself as it tries to close the gap with rival Michigan

After a 5-7 season last year, Michigan State has a lot of questions to answer in regaining momentum on the gridiron. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Conversely, in-state rival Michigan is coming off their back-to-back Big Ten championships and is once again the favorite to win the league this upcoming year. A lot of the Wolverines’ success the previous two seasons can be tied back to an impressive offensive line and rushing attack — both of which should again be the case this fall.

So how does Michigan State close the gap in the rivalry this year? Rainer Sabin of the Detroit Free Press examines the rivalry and how the Spartans are looking to catch up to their in-state rival through bulking up the defensive front — click on the tweet below to read the story from Sabin:

WATCH: MSU wide receivers securing highlight catches during practice

Michigan State will need a number of new guys to step up at wide receiver this fall to make up for lost production from last year

Entering the season, one of the biggest question marks for Michigan State football will be the wide receivers. A clip released from practice on Wednesday suggests that position group may be better than we think.

The official Michigan State football social media account released a short video clip on Wednesday showcasing multiple wide receivers making nice catches in practice. Tre Mosley, Christian Fitzpatrick, Aziah Johnson and Sebastian Brown were all seen in the short clip.

Michigan State lost its top two wide receivers from last year’s team and return only one receiver — Mosley — who had more than 100 yards in receiving last year. So it’s definitely going to be a lot of new faces getting an opportunity to stand out this fall.

Barstool Big Ten lists MSU football among conference’s top five teams for 2023 season

Not many are particularly high on the Spartans entering the 2023 season — but that doesn’t include Barstool Big Ten

Not many are particularly high on the Spartans entering the 2023 season — but that doesn’t include Barstool Big Ten.

The Barstool Sports Big Ten affiliate account released their preseason rankings for the upcoming 2023 season, and surprisingly the Spartans were listed in the top five of the league. Barstool Big Ten has Michigan State at No. 5 in their preseason rankings — which is No. 4 in the Big Ten East Division behind Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State in that order. Wisconsin was the lone other team to be ahead of the Spartans.

I personally have a bit higher expectations for Michigan State than the national media but I’m not THIS high on the Spartans. I’d have Iowa and maybe Minnesota both ahead of the Spartans as well. You could also make the argument that Maryland should be ahead of Michigan State — although I’d combat that argument.

Check out the complete top 10 rankings from Barstool Big Ten below:

Will the Spartans rebound in 2023? I think there’s a decent chance of that occurring — depending on what you’re expectations are for Michigan State this next season.

Michigan State football is coming off a disappointing season in 2022 and will be looking to return to the postseason in 2023. There are mixed feelings on the Spartans after an up-and-down offseason, but I’m expecting Michigan State to once again reach the bowl season regardless of what the national and betting experts have to say.

I haven’t done a particularly great job in my game-by-game predictions the past two years — undersold the Spartans in 2021 and oversold them in 2022 — but I’m back again with some early thoughts on how the 2023 season could play out. So here are my game-by-game predictions for the Spartans’ 2023 campaign:
